The hard part to get a grasp on is that one part is the answers they give, one part is what really happened, then another part is telling the past from tagents that the character is thinking of , but not what they are saying or being asked. Like the way memories works you start thinking about something or keep thinking about something despite other people moving on

Dora Lang is the murdered girl from the beginning with the antlers. They ID’d her immediately that’s how they knew her name when they interviewed her ex boyfriend in prison. They’re trying to piece together her life in this episode. This show can be be a bit difficult to follow in the beginning because it’s told through 2 different narratives (hart and cohle’s interviews), so it jumps between different times depending on how they’re telling the story. Marie Fontenout is another girl they’re also looking for because she matches the MO of the killer. The devil nets are also a part of the MO of the killer.. he places them symbolically around significant locations of his victims.

I credit a lot of what made the 1st season of True Detective so iconic to Director Cary Fukanaga. He is adamant at mixing stunning visuals with great character arcs and unconventional storytelling techniques. The thing about memory is connecting time frames to new experiences. A detective, cop, whatever, they're almost guaranteed to see something new in their life while working. I work in a restaurant so my day-to-day is pretty damn similar, time has no meaning, they all run together. If somebody asked me if I had a woman who ordered shrimp and lobster, I'd have to look through past orders. If someone asks a cop about a case, they've put in the hours dealing with that unique situation, they will be able to recall a lot more details since it was a new experience.

I now have it on dvd pack too and love it. Woody is brilliant in this and so is everyone else. Lili Simmons was also another reason I got it, since she makes an appearance. It's dark, gripping, mysterious, haunting, with incredible scripts and it's mesmerizing, holds up to many views. I could watch it again and again and hopefully will. Second time at the mo. I also have the second season on dvd, but have a hunch it's not as good. Not surprising, this first season is a tough act to follow. The opening's pretty haunting too.

Like many others, I am of the opinion that this is the single best season of television ever made. The acting is of legendary proportions, the cinematography is major budget film quality and the screenplay is on par with anything ever put to film. It's Chinatown level. Like Breaking Bad, every word uttered and every camera angle and every time jump (of which there are many, but it makes sense as the story plays out) means something to the story. This one requires complete attention, it's rough for reactors. Don't worry about figuring it out as you go and talking about what you think you may have deciphered about the main mystery. You won't. We already know that. Hearing where you think it's going after watching the whole episode with a detailed surmation would be cool. You guys are pretty good at reacting, you'll probably intuitively figure that out as you get deeper into the episodes. This one is quit the ride. You're gonna enjoy it.

Since you're making the rounds of HBO shows, I'd like to suggest _The Leftovers._ It didn't get a lot of hype, probably because the first season was somewhat of a difficult watch on account of the nature of the source material. But it was a critical darling, and if you stick with it, you are rewarded by the end of s3 (there's only 3 seasons / 28 episodes total.) They pulled off an incredible final run of episodes, and its one of those series that you really can't stop thinking about or talking about. It's got some amazing acting and writing. Also, while s1 of _True Detective_ is terrific, in my humble opinion the quality goes downhill sharply thereafter. I would suggest watching s1 only. The others are fine, don't get me wrong, but not super. (Partly because I would much, much rather watch you react to _The Leftovers_ so I admit I'm a little biased there.)
@eukariootti13 жыл бұрын
I started watching _The Leftovers_ about a year ago, or perhaps two... I guess I was expecting some kind of scifi and/or dystopia etc. Checking afterwards from IMDb, it seems to be: "Drama, Fantasy, Mystery". But I don't remember getting much of those, either. I'm not quite sure anymore, if I ever started Season 2. I guess one reason for this is, that I'm 0 % religious. And another, that I'm just into different kind of stuff. For example, I got bored with Mad Men, too. To lesser extent, though. To be fair, I've seen several series which did start slowly. Or didn't at first have a clear direction, style etc. For example, I could recommend these, just with an asterisk: _The Black Adder (1982-1989)_ - Doesn't really take off until Season 2. _Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987-1994)_ - Keeps improving. Feels the polar opposite of ST: Discovery. _Star Trek: Enterprise (2001-2005)_ - 3rd & 4th Season felt much better than 1st & 2nd. THAT is a slow start... _Spaced (1999-2001)_ - At least for me, it took few episodes to really get into this positively quirky series. What ever genre it is, something has to actually happen every now and then. The very least it must make me feel something, except boredom. Otherwise I'm out. Personally, it means movies like _Office Space, Vertigo (1958), Alien, Das Boot, Back to the Future, Blade Runner, The Naked Gun, "Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987)", Twelve Monkeys (1995), The Station Agent (2003), Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Kick-Ass (2010), Zombieland, Amélie (2001), LotR trilogy..._ Or tv-series like _Breaking Bad, True Detective - Season 1, Firefly, Rubicon (2010), Band of Brothers, Police Squad!, Black Books, Person of Interest, Father Ted, Homeland..._
