I remember the news of the quake. My brother was supposed to be staying in a backpackers in central city, thankfully him and his workmates left the city the day before to head up the mountains. The backpackers was flattened. I didn't know he was already out of the city, was a hard few days not knowing, as up in the mountains they didn't have cell reception. I've been down to christchurch a couple of times since, it was shocking how much damage was around, and how quickly they have managed to get the rebuilding underway. Its cool seeing it again in the video, and how much more has changed. Enjoy your time down there guys.

Great seeing you enjoying Christchurch. We moved here 20 years ago from Auckland and wouldn't live anywhere else. Even after the earthquakes it is still the best little city. Everything that was dangerous in an earthquake is gone, we arent likely to get volcanoes, and tsunamis (tidal waves) wouldn't make it very far inland. We have metropolitan areas, beaches, forests, rivers, lakes, mountains, skifields, harbours, and wilderness all within a couple of hours drive. There's not many places in the world that has that. Make sure to get to Akaroa, the beautiful French village. Banks Peninsula also has some stunning beaches and scenery.

Hey Anthony hope your having a lovely day and really glad your enjoying life to the fullest in beautiful Christchurch! 😀 some look at the earthquake differently! So many different perspectives but definitely seems good from your side. Not to many people down here either so we feel it’s more peaceful ☺️ also we went over the mountain already and made a video haha

I studied at the University there during the earthquakes. Was a real privilege to be able to help out the locals in the aftermath as part of the student volunteer army. So stoked to see the city starting to bounce back. I know it feels slow for the locals but I really enjoy visiting it now. Has a great community vibe.

Fun video to watch and cool to see you both enjoying Christchurch. Something to remember is that 100,000 people live in the surrounding towns who commute to the city every day. After the Earthquakes the city's population dropped but now the Greater Christchurch population is 550,000 and by 2030 will be 615,000. So many people from other cities in New Zealand are moving to Christchurch 🤣
@fredsmith3099 Жыл бұрын
I have visited Christchurch a few times, both pre and post earthquakes. I always find the centre city soulless, especially compared with Wellington. I wonder how any of the businesses survive when there is just a trickle of tourists about the place. Most of the locals shop in their own area I believe.

Not only is there a piece of the Berlin Wall, there's also a sculpture made from pieces of the Twin Towers. The first earthquake in 2010 that was 7.1, and was based out in Darfield (but did impact the city)... but it was the 6.3 February 2011 earthquake was the one that devastated the city and caused the tragic loss of life. Love and miss Christchurch everyday. From Canada. Lived here for a year in 2015-2016. I was in my early 20's when I lived here so I didnt appreciate it completely. At the time the night life wasnt great and the city wasnt big enough for the hustle and bustle I was used to. It is the Hub of the South Island though which is arguably one of the most beautiful places on earth. If I had my time back and family wasnt so far away I would have stayed in New Zealand forever no questions asked. I make too much in Canada to justify returning anytime in the near future unfortunately.
@GlenAndMado10 ай бұрын
I mean it was hard during these times so I would expect the city not to be so lively when you lived here. things are starting to change for the good and we really hope that continues and the growth of the city continues :) I mean if you really love New Zealand and would prefer living there no wage can justify that. you need to change happiness not a wage.

Talking about the earthquakes is a big memory - hard times here. What people might not know, is before the earthquake that caused all the destruction in 2011, there was a magnitude 7.1 in September 2010. I think that contributed to some of the damage.
