The spirit of nature is so grand in the breathtaking Rockies that I feel an overwhelming sense of the divine that is hard to put in to words but often moves me to tears. It's like being in nature's greatest Cathedral. I have lived in Calgary and skied in Banff and I have had the immense good fortune to live in Jasper also. Thank you for sharing the stunning video captures here and your adventures
@OverlandingSophia

Yes to all of this! 🙌 "Natures Greatest Cathedral" - this gave me goosebumps just thinking about it because that's exactly what it's like. The mountains instill a sense of awe and wonder that's so difficult to capture - and that's exactly part of it's magic. They are indefinable and need to be experienced. Isn't nature just freaking awesome 💛

GPS is a marvellous invention for travelling..no question..but it is a cold practical tool. There is nothing as satisfying and speaks of distance and adventure and possibilities as spreading a map out in front of you and marking your route. I like your map markings! ❤

"Cold practical tool" - love this! Yeah GPS is great for getting us around but to really document the trip and the roads we're taking, nothing beats the paper maps. They'll be amazing to look back on in a few years time 💕

I live in Nova Scotia and have travelled across this country a couple of times. I have been following you since you got to our truly beautiful and extremely large country. Most people from one coast have never been to the other side of the country so you have seen two of the most beautiful areas in Canada. Based on where you are in this video, you are further away from me - in Nova Scotia - than I am from your home in England! Enjoy your time and you are more than welcome to come back to your first experience in Canada!
@OverlandingSophia

Honestly the distances in Canada are crazy! We heard that it's longer to drive across Canada than from Colombia to Argentina 🤯 So we can see why some people haven't made it across to the other side! Also crazy that you're closer to our home than we are... and yet we're still in the same country. We'll be back to NS one day for sure 💛

I did that drive over 20 years ago during the first week of October just before most of the snow arrived. The clear blue skies made it even more impressive with all the lakes in full rich colour. More importantly though... Lake Louise was the number one view I've ever witnessed. No picture can do it justice unless your naked eyes are actually there at the optimum moment.

I'm nodding hearing you say you're completely drained after driving that part of the Rockies. When you have a brush with the divine, the experience is too exalting to be able to stay receptive for too long, you have to turn away just to re-gather yourself, gets me every time as well.

So many dad jokes in here Mark I don't know where to begin! 😂 These national parks are so busy in the summer that part of the magic of coming off-season is that we've had much of it to ourselves. Think it's only to get more isolated and remote the further north we go! We use IOverlander here but it's not used much in Europe. If you're in Europe you need to have Park4Night - the king of van life apps! You can find campsites and wild camps on there, water, services etc xx 💕

Wow awesome. It's interesting to see the contrast of how you guys are doing your trip through northern Canada compared to Itchy Boots. I'm so glad you guys went through Banff and Jasper and showed us the epic grand majesty of the place while Itchy Boots was on a less epic route but as a geologist, she provided some very interesting geological information about the formation of the valley she was in and the geological information for some of the glaciers. And sadly she also told us Lake Louise would lose it's turquoise colour at some point.

If you go back past Jasper, try the gondala up the mountain, personally early June is the best time, no bugs but everything is green and blooming.

No matter how many times I have driven that ice fields highway it always feels like the first time. Jasper was the place I moved to back a long time ago when I left Nova Scotia. I am very glad you all got to see how beautiful of a place it is there and how big those mountains are. Have fun in BC and when you pass by Mt Robson I hope you get a clear day. When you were back east you were in my stomping grounds of the Annapolis Valley. Now you are right in the heart of the second stage of my life, living in the parks and then into BC.

Both such special places to live! Can imagine that the magnificence of those mountains can never get old. As we left the park we had a beautiful view of Mt Robson. That entire drive, even leaving the park was breathtaking. Our eyes literally hurt from staring at it all day trying to take it all in. Where are you off to live next?! We'll make sure to drop by 😂

@@OverlandingSophia well where I am now I'll be for a while in Fort McMurray about 5 hours north of Edmonton. This is close to the end of another highway that turns into an ice road in the winter. Which I just found out from the new video, an ice road is a big deal. Some glad you were able to get a good view of Robson. Now that I don't live in the mountains it makes me think about how lucky I was to live in them for so many years. Safe travels north to the 4 of you.

Used to lead groups into Banff and Jasper! Seeing it brought back great and crazy memories! Thanks~! And s'mores - for whatever reason, some in my state, Minnesota, take credit for them. Funny story is I worked for the ICCL in Dublin Ireland for a long summer many years ago. We rented from a couple who used there outdoor grill every night so we had family back in Minnesota ship Honey Maid graham crackers, marshmallows, and Hershey bars to Dublin and got everyone in the McKee Park area of Dublin hooked on s'mores. Thanks for the journey! Love it.

Glad you were able to enjoy (and survive) my favourite part of this country. Just there last weekend. Winter is hanging on for an extra month, snow conditions skiing Marmot on the 15th were amazing for this time of year. S'mores by the campfire and egg & cheese buns warmed in foil for breakfast an Alberta camp staple. Word of caution, almost lost a pup on Friday when millisecond after I undid the leash, she ran onto ice to go after geese standing on the ice. She ended up in the water. A Scary three or minutes. A lot of sun spot activity this year, you should see some great Aurora for your travels north and south. Great content as always. Safe travels!

Yeah it seems everywhere is getting an extra dose of winter this year. Utah usually gets 300inches of snow but they were already at 800inches when we were there. Just crazy. Thanks for the heads up about the frozen lakes too. The one we were camped by was just rock beneath the ice, it was starting to break but water wasn’t beneath it yet. And the river at the end… it was 2ft deep but I let Ben go on that on his own. Hope your little pup was okay after the cold water shock, scary how quickly things can happen! 🐾🧡

So amazing to see in the winter and I'm so envious of that camping site! We drove the parkway both ways in September about 4 years ago and we were commenting that yep, it's pretty spectacular but the South Island NZ was pretty much as fabulous... until 4 days later in Jasper. 😀The smoke haze from the hundreds of bush fires all over BC & northern US cleared! WOWOWOWOWOWOWOOOOOOW! Did we ever take back our words. 😀Most of that HUGENESS had been hidden behind the smoke haze and when it was finally revealed.... just mind blowing. BTW, the mum in me get's very concerned when you walk out on the snow over rivers and lakes!
@OverlandingSophia

Ohhh New Zealand is a huuuge bucket list one for me, not least because Lord of the Rings was my love growing up and I think I will burst into tears when I see those landscapes in person 😂 But The Rockies were just like you say! The hugeness is SO hard to comprehend, our eyes were actually hurting from the expansiveness, if that makes sense lol. And thank you for the concern about the ice, but don't worry. The part of the lake we were walking on was actually stone underneath, it wasn't the water. And the river at the end was about 2 ft deep with 2ft of ice on top, so at worst Ben would just have very cold ankles 🥰 xx

Welcome back to the Great White North! The Parkway drive is even more spectacular in the summer. You can stop and swim in numerous lakes along the way in the glacier melt. The views and wildlife are even more spectacular, and it is well worth going out on the Columbia Glacier. Ah well, you can't do everything on your travels. At least you had clear skies. p.s. The bears are still hibernating. I believe I have seen bears on all 3 occasions that I have driven that road, or the roads around it. Keeping my fingers crossed you do not encounter any late winter storms.

Thanks Darryl! I definitely think both seasons have their perks. The snow was otherworldly, on the peaks and on the trees. And we didn't have any crowds which was magical. But 99% of the trails were closed and the lakes were definitely not turquoise 😂 Would love to drive in the warmer weather and see the difference. Gutted we couldn't get out on the glacier! Also, we missed ice skating on LL so April is definitely the worst time to visit 🙈
