Actually pretty awesome. I went to a very detailed page explaining it all. I was under the impression wide band would clip more because it would be at the limits of the band width. While the narrow band would be more clear as it stayed within the bands and would offer less clipping and static. Then you made the video. Boom! Thank you Sir!

Narrow-to-narrow cuts through static brilliantly. If you're only communicating with a small group and never with anybody outside that group, stick to narrow if your radio does both. Wide is the default, but narrow-to-narrow will get through clearer when you're both weak to each other.

Thanks for this video. It made the whole narrow versus wide very understandable. I do have two questions/comments. First of all, it would have been nice to hear the comparison between narrow and wide without the repeater. If I understood the scenario correctly, Chris transmitted in wide band over the repeater, but switched to simplex for the narrow band. It would have been interesting to hear both options either with or without the repeater. Secondly, are you actually getting ten miles of distance in simplex on a pair of handheld GMRS radios? My understanding was that handhelds with small antennas and five watts of output start to drop off after a couple of miles.
@TheNotaRubicon
@TheNotaRubicon Жыл бұрын
Yes, i am getting ten miles on simplex on a pair of handheld GMRS radios.. 13 miles when I talk to another buddy.. GMRS handhelds with 5 watts and small antennas range is dependent more on line-of-sight than anything else, and I have good line of sight.
