A variable frequency oscillator (VFO) in electronics is an oscillator whose frequency can be tuned (i.e., varied) over some range. It is a necessary component in any tunable radio transmitter or receiver that works by the superheterodyne principle, and controls the frequency to which the apparatus is tuned.

Somewhere along the way you told us about RadioReference. It has a great section for national channels. I spent a lot of time seeking out and stumbled on these. Unfortunately it doesn't tell you which channel covers each area. I guessed and got it on the second try. Chirp made it easy to program all the cool channels I found. And set up ones for transmitting, so I can easily set the radios to talk to each other. My NOAA is channel 0. I keep that on A and then set for duplex with priority TX on B channel. I've pretty much got this far because I watched your videos. Thanks for making this fun.

Sir, Thank you for your time, your videos, and most importantly your sense of humor. In your video which I so much enjoyed, you could not change the channel on the 0 and 127. Since I just got my radio and learning to use it, I thought I would try it. Yes, I was able to change the 0 to the NOAH Channel and the 127 to the 2nd NOAH channel... Just to let you know, it is possible to change them, however, you have to input a new channel in one of the slots for it to work. Great videos and great content... Keep it up.

Evening, NotaRubicon... Since I'm old now, and no longer follow directions very well, I'm hoping that once I can figure out how to program my new-still-in-the-box-on-my-dining-room-table UV5R - gen3 with the CHIRT software, these NOAA channels will be included? Sure hope so, anyway. Yeah, I went ahead and purchased a pair of these keen little transceivers along with the upgraded Nagoya antennas, the larger 3800 milliamp batteries, and the necessary to transfer data cable. It's exciting stuff, and this tutorial being the exception...I've so far enjoyed your channel very much. Thank you, and take care...

Great video.. I had a question maybe you already have a video. Instead of your scan channels like you show can you have it scan on both so for example if I have 2 boafangs 1 is my base and 1 is my mobile. On the base can I have it scan on both A & B so say for example the A scans all FRS channels Frequencies and B scans all GMR channels Frequencies so you have a all FRS/GMR scanner then I could use my mobile or my main PTT uv-5r as a you know mobile where I can put on that 1 A FRS and B GMR slot for the on the go listen or chat and say if my gf/wife was at home she could hear my chat or even PTT back no matter what channel I was on because the fact I would have all FRS/GMR in my base home walkie... thanks

Have you ever played with the TYT TH-UV88? At $35 I think it's in the running for "dollar for dollar" prize, but what's very nice is that it's the same radio as the Radioddity GM-30 GMRS radio. If you buy them both for about $75 total you get two radios, two batteries (one of which can be charged with USB-C), and a desktop charger that charges both. One battery needs a tiny mod to work in the other radio, but all in all a nice combo.

@mojoman20012 жыл бұрын
Aiming high for the top comment slot here.... My new UV-5Rs allow programming Channel Zero. Also, I recommend the open source CHIRP software (Baofeng supports) and USB cable, if you are programming more than one radio. You can simply import all the FRS/GMRS channels/frequencies with the corresponding FRS Channel numbers. It takes 5 seconds per radio to program those 22 channels using a computer with CHIRP software. I just need a tutorial on all those blank settings and how to get onto repeaters -- do I need an engraved invitation?

Great video channel! I've learned more here than any manuals or "advanced" classes. Just curious: would CHIRP be any easier in this situation?
