Merry Christmas Mr. Randy! I heard some stories about certain industries that reversed that Standard GMRS Pair. I think some cruise lines use UHF radios for on board operations. At least, I thought that I heard that Cruise Ships repeaters use GMRS in the Reverse of what we're allowed. I can't confirm that, because I forgot when I heard that.
@chrissewell160816 күн бұрын
Cruise ships 🛳 probably do use UHF frequenies more better, because of its limited range, and ability to transmit through metal & concrete structures better than VHF radio waves! 🌊 But the use of GMRS is probably unlikely. But who knows, what the Wal-Mart cruise line uses. Most don't allow public use of radios, because some dumb person would be screwing around and interfering with the ships communications. Just to be funny, all while being a big D-bag! 🚭 The last time GMRS was allowed, was on the Titanic! And look what happened there! ⬇️

Stupid question, but here goes: I have a Wouxun KG-1000G Plus (because of YOU) in my vehicle. Regardless of simplex or repeater channels, if CTCSS RX is off, I should be able to hear everything from simplex and repeater channels, yes? But if I want to talk to someone on channel, if my TX tone doesn't match theirs, they can't hear me? Also, I have "tone scanned" many of my local repeater channels and have "auto saved" those TX/RX tones, but when I try and transmit, noone ever seems to hear me...what am I doing wrong?
@TheNotaRubicon20 күн бұрын
When your RX tones are off, you will hear everyone on the channel You only need to add a TX tone if the person(s) you want to talk with are using an RX tone (most people do not) - in this case, the tones must match, but again, most people do not bother with tones. When you tone-scan a repeater you are scanning the OUTPUT, not the INPUT. You need to scan the INPUT frequency to hear what tone is being used to use the repeater.

The FCC ONLY governs non-federal, ie. State, county, city, and civilian use of the radio frequency spectrum. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration manages the FEDERAL government's use of the radio frequency spectrum which includes the Military. The Military cannot knowingly communicate on FCC governed frequencies, unless the person using the radio has a FCC license. There is an exception during a life and death emergency! Case in point, Civil Air Patrol, CAP, as a subsidiary of the US Air Force, cannot use Ham, GMRS, FRS, or CB to communicate with anyone on those frequencies during any assignment, usually airborne SAR. As a comms officer, I had to utilize my personal FCC license to be able to use ONLY the frequencies I had a license for during an operation as well as radio spectrum covered by the NTIA. Anyone can listen to these frequencies, al long as they do NOT transmit on them.

Many ham radios, and apparently at least a few GMRS radios have a “reverse” function. When configured to use a repeater, activating “reverse” swaps the input and output frequencies. If two radios are set up to use a repeater, then one is “reversed” they can communicate directly. Basically this is split simplex, without the repeater as the go between. Why would you ever want/need this? It can be useful in finding/fixing problems with configuring the right tones for a repeater. It may also come in handy if you are within simplex range of someone who is having trouble getting into a repeater (weak signal) you can reverse and contact them directly. Just another useful tool to have or be aware of.

If those radios are FRS radios or GMRS radios that are not repeater capable the additional channels will be the 22 simplex channels with tones preprogrammed from the manufacturer. Radios cannot transmit and receive at the same time on the same frequency. This is why you transmit on a different frequency (input frequency), the repeater captures the input signal and transmits it at the same time on a different(output) frequency. It is difficult to understand at first.
