Summary: 1. Ask for PowerPoint Pages or Printed Notes: Request PowerPoint slides or printed notes from the teacher to save time during class and focus on understanding concepts. 2. Functionality Over Prettiness: Prioritize functionality over aesthetic appeal in note-taking. Use color coding sparingly, such as highlighting lesson titles, important formulas, and key concepts. 3. Blind Copying is Okay: It's acceptable to blindly copy notes when unable to fully engage in class due to fatigue or other reasons. Don't stress about capturing every detail in real-time; focus on getting the main points. 4. Increase Writing Speed: Improve writing speed to keep up with the pace of the lecture. Utilize abbreviations and shorthand to expedite note-taking. 5. Don't Copy Diagrams on the Spot: Listen and absorb visual information during class, then recreate diagrams later when reviewing notes. Take pictures of diagrams during class to reference when revising notes. 6. Save Space for Annotations: Leave margins and space under each topic for annotations from verbal explanations or additional insights. Prioritize annotating verbal explanations over copying content from the board or slides. 7. Add, Don't Redo: Continuously update existing notes instead of rewriting them. Incorporate new information, insights, or references from textbooks, homework, or class discussions directly into existing notes. 8. Efficiently Study Your Notes: When studying, jump straight into homework or problems and reference notes as needed. Organize notes visually to facilitate quick retrieval of information. Create links between notes, homework, and other study materials to enhance comprehension and retention. 9. Study Homework and Bucketed Information First: Study homework assignments and condensed concepts first before delving into detailed notes. Utilize highlighting and breaks in notes to aid in studying and comprehension. 10. Beat Procrastination: Overcome procrastination to leverage well-prepared notes effectively. Utilize strategies to manage procrastination and maintain focus on studying.

hi amy, I was wondering if you could do a video about studying at home when it's rlly...not conducive? like if your parents are yelling a lot and you can't focus, or if you have strict parents that don't let you use headphones / go out to study etc.
@harithanam85519 ай бұрын
do this thing ig it'll work don't talk with em when you're with the books and studying stuff most problems arrive when we study from gadgets (in most cases), in either case just don't respond to them to show that you are very sincere with your study work while it may seem that this will develop more problems, parents will eventually understand your sincerity and will stop screaming in a few days after this behaviour be stubborn with studies but not to an extent where you will continue studying even when someone is having a stroke just beside you (jff)

I am from India. I was one of the top students a year back, but now I have become a mediocre student. This is because they sent me to a new class with a new set of teachers. I didn't listen to the class properly and even fell asleep a lot of times. I studied just to maintain my reputation before. But now that I've lost all my reputation, how can I regain confidence in my potential and become the same person I was one year back?

honestly, the same thing happened to me last year in the midterms because I shifted schools and the new school was a disaster but by the end of this year in the annuals, I scored highest in all subjects. This happens because when you were a great bright student you had pressure to maintain that position but once that "title" falls you become like any other student. what I did was to change my mindset and by that what I did was little by little making that "title" a part of my personality. I made progress day by day and tried to avoid bad habits and made it a part of my personality. According to Atomic Habits by James Clear, to make a change in habits we need to make it a part of our identity. I didn't focus on the "97%" instead I focused on the personality which made me a "97%" student.

I love these so much mainly because I’ve already been doing most of them XD a side note as well: remember that your notes are for your future self. I write down the little details that others might not if I think it’ll be useful for my future self. I also like to write the date at the start of my notes for that day so that if someone else needs notes from a specific day, it’s easily accessible and I’ll know what I learned on a given day

i have a tip too! So if you're like me, who needs notes (especially if ur Textbook is just walls of text w like 2 huge paragraphs on one page), but at the same time writing takes too long, TYPE notes. Well first, i read the chapter, colour-coding and highlighting informantion. Then, i use notion, and just type down the highlighted stuff. For me, pink is defenitions, green is examples, blue is just important points, orange is points which i might forget, and yellow is new words.

Recently found your channel. Do you have a video on your history? ie, what is your major at CalTech? Do you have a scholarship? (somebody has to pay for your college). How do you manage your expenses? Do you have a part time job to help pay for things? Did you take dual credit classes in high school so you could enter university as a junior (or at least closer that a newbie freshman)? Have you always been a good student, ie - in junior / high school, or did you have to relearn how to study once you entered college? What are your goals / plans after college? Do you have a job you hope to land, field of interest or general industry you plan to enter or be employed with? Yes, I checked the 'about' section on your channel, not very informative. Your study tips, etc. are useful, but I would like some history on how you got to where you are in life. Me? - I'm 64 years old and going back to community college to study electrical engineering (associate degree).

After last year, I am 100% getting separate copies for notes and classwork. Typically where I live so far people just use one copy per subject. I’m now entering the equivalent of American junior year (I think? I’m not good with the American school system) and the workload is much more intense. My sheer panic in exam season last year trying to differentiate between notes, classwork, and homework was certainly eye opening.

Hey Amy, I have a question, Since your handwriting is like mine "doctor's handwriting😅", doesn't it affect when it comes to writing subjective exams. Like mostly teachers expect us to write neatly but when i try to write neatly, it starts well for the first page but it takes twice the time i would have needed to write that page with my normal handwriting (i don't know if I'm clear enough here) and then after half of the exam is over my handwriting again goes back to "not so neat one" And the handwriting in the ending of the test looks different from the handwriting in the beginning of the test. Its so frustrating sometimes because some teachers say i would loose my marks in competitive exam if i keep doing this.
@harithanam85519 ай бұрын
tho I ain't Amy, you can read me i have faced the exact situation that you've described in your comment handwriting doesn't matter provided that it's legible for most of the people while truly shabby handwriting needs to be avoided, you can try to maintain the same handwriting throughout for example, try to write at a medium pace legibly throughout the exam and about the competitive exams part, i think handwriting doesnt even matter much what matters is whether you're able to read what you've written and others shouldn't find any difficulty reading your handwriting you can improve by not changing your preferred font style throughout and managing a constant gap between two words many such examples can be given but it doesn't strike when you write your exams, so it's kinda useless to give them but i think you get the basic idea of what I'm trying to convey thank you for reading till the very end

Hi Amy, When watching your video, you had mentioned printing out the lecture slides but you were very vague with what to do after you've printed them. Like do you take them to lecture? Do you annotate them. Do you not have to write notes at all since you've already got them printed out? Like how do you implement the printed out notes into studying. I rewatched your video but you didn't really brush up on this. It sounds like an amazing idea but I printed out the lecture slides and im not really sure what to do with them/how to use them . Could you please clarify what you had meant Thank you.
