I feel like based on what she’s trying to say, it isnt that she knows her mother wont hear her out, its that she doesnt know the right words in her mother tongue to properly express how she feels so she can only stammer in English while her mother continues since she doesnt understand English very well. Explaining complex things while being Asian American in your mother tongue is rather difficult and this exact scenario has happened multiple times where you get ignored if you cant properly express how you feel in your mother tongue vs English.

Even if she doesn't understand English well, you'd think she'd stop to try and listen at least but she just keeps talking until her daughter gives up. I also don't believe she doesn't understand English well considering she understood all the previous sentences just fine. In her mother's case, English is her second language so I think she comprehends it well but can't reply to it hence why they're both speaking to each other in different languages. It's also clear that her mother is somewhat manipulative even if not intentionally so. I mean the whole conversation is like that where her mother keeps denying that she meant one thing when she actually meant that thing to the point where it feels like gaslighting.

I love how the ending wasn’t a big jump into a relationship, but rather a sort of open ending that shows that the two characters will grow closer and actually learn more about each other. The contrast between the way Natsumi interacts with Mark, showing off how he is much more choking when talking to her and barely lets herself, compared to how Natsumi is with Ika, having the two compliment each others style of speech and properly having breathing room between the dialogue! This was so good and I’m truly impressed with the creativity and artistry 😊

I’ve wow this is incredible!! the subtle looks and movements are so impactful! the fact they didn’t kiss is so real like part of the queer experience is that uncertainty that comes from not knowing if someone is into you in that way and/or not knowing yourself if what you feel is romantic. This film really does that justice!!

As gut-wrenching as it is beautiful, this short film hit all the right notes to accomplish something memorable and meaningful. The entire premise is delightful, not to mention how well-executed it is. Major kudos to everyone who worked hard to bring this project into reality!
