Dear Mary, I am sorry for the pain you are feeling. There are times God allows us to feel pain for very long times. For me, it was close to two decades. And now, I am healed. I don't know why it was such a long time for me. I struggled very much to understand the pain God had allowed me to undergo. Yet, I continued to seek Him, serve Him, and learn from Him. He has in turn blessed me. But it certainly wasn't overnight, or anything close to it. I believe God cares more about the content of our character than our personal happiness and comfort. I want people to know that it took years for God to heal me. It was a long journey. God showed me very clearly how He was present and fighting for my life when I was attacked with a loaded gun. I was desperate for an answer, and I prayed to God for an answer and He showed me had not abandoned me, as I had believed, but He had saved my life. It was a huge revelation, and it changed me forever! But this happened years after the incident. I believed the healing would come, but it doesn't always come immediately. Keep the faith. God has allowed me to heal and move on from a very abusive marriage, then an abusive church (sadly), into a healthy and happy church and marriage. I got counseling, over many years, I also learned to make better decisions, and to take responsibility for my own part in the destructive relationships I had formed. We may just be naive, or we may simply have never seen good relationships modeled for us, but it is possible to move from hurting to healing. I will say, that I have also suffered from severe health issues for 25 years, and God has shown me over and over that when I reached out to others in pain and healped them, somehow, it came back to help me, too. I do believe sharing your faith (what little it may seem we have at times), while serving others allows us to let the Spirit of God flow through us and it produces healing. Blessings to you.

I'm so sorry your mother is gone. How terribly sad. One thing I did for someone I lost is plant a tree in their honor. A flowering shrub in another friends passing. Over the years these have given me joy, as the tree grows and blooms in springtime. The bush is covered with beautiful blooms too. I loved him, I cared for him and even after accepting his past problems and his family problems I was ready to support him... It can be a long process to work through the pain and receive healing. I'm so glad you found someone that can help you toward the goal of healing, peace and joy in the Spirit. For me, it took years to heal from domestic violence. Sometimes God heals us instantly, and other times He uses skilled and wise people to walk with us through our valley of pain and lead us with God's grace to the other side.
