top.gg isn’t the discord police. They don’t need to boot mee6 off the platform because that’s Discord’s job. Top.gg is just getting the bag and that’s pretty gamer. I just found Mee6’s ad spending interesting. And raised the point that it’s more likely that top.gg would not comment on Mee6’s actions to maintain that business relationship. Oh yeah I should make it clear. I don’t hate music bots. I just hate every other music bot being punished and Mee6 getting away with it. Moreover, music bots break KZbin's API TOS, not Discord's directly. If I recall correctly there is a term in Discord's Dev TOS that says you shouldn't be breaking the TOS of other platforms. From what I speculate, it seems like it's up to youtube to tell Discord that a bot is breaking the tos.

wrong. Discord TOS requires bots to follow the TOS of other websites. Since mee6 is very much against the youtube TOS discord could (and should!) force them to remove it. Actually they should ban it already because of a large number of offenses but for this one forced removal is the ideal option.

Do not show this to MEE6 but... Fun fact: I enabled XP level roles on my server on MEE6's server BEFORE they made this service paid. And now since it's already enabled, It's kind of bugged. My server STILL has level roles TO THIS DAY without me paying a single dollar.

@@niczvr Considering how most of the company works, they're VERY LIKELY to keep user asset that violates their own rules the company sets just because it makes a lot of money for them. If in Roblox, Pet Simulator X violated Roblox ToS about 4 times and yet no serious action was taken, just beacuse it makes a lot of money for Roblox, I can tell the same thing may happen to Discord except it's Mee6, because Mee6 might be making lots of money for Discord either.

I just want to drop my experience with mee6: i was a very early supporter, back when you did a single donation and got access to music and the "cool features," when they switched to a subscription model they claimed they would uphold their promise to original donators. for me at least? they have not. i tried for months, they refused to uphold it with so many different issues. I gave up and haven't used it for years now. but i thought it would be interesting to mention to folk

Calling out discord for not banning MEE6 for having a music bot makes ZERO sense since Discord was always on the side of the music bots, but it was KZbin that took legal action to force the popular music bots to shutdown. Do I think it's fair that MEE6 can get away with it when others haven't? No of course not. But don't blame Discord when it's not their fault.

It’s because MEE6 uses lavaplayer which doesn’t require API keys. All the other bots you mentioned used API keys. You might be wondering why they didn’t just switch? It’s because they needed to use many proxies or else it they would get rate limited considering the amount of users.

Fredboat is the first bot I ever learnt to use and as such has been the bot I'd use for when I'm in vc with people and wanna listen to music. I noticed they too can no longer run youtube videos due to conflicts so i decided to make some backup playlists on Soundcloud for my regulars. I tend to listen to my music offline since I actually buy it but it felt odd to lose a big chunk of what my tiny server liked to do together. That said I am now getting the hang of that youtube watch party feature in servers now.

Yeah, the YT watch party is pretty cool, but it's pretty limited, some videos can't be played, if you paste a link to a playlist it just lists all the songs and you have to add them one by one. It also has ads that work in a kinda weird way, everyone gets i different ad and has to click skip ad separately, and the video doesn't pase while ads are played, so you miss a bit of it

My group always used rhythm to play meme audio relevant to whatever we were doing. Sometimes it was music, a la Sea of Thieves and PotC music, but mostly it was meme audio. I really wish there was even a half-decent alternative

I feel the issue is that it's just too late to kick it off the platform, they're in way too many servers and afaik there's no easy way to transfer the settings to other servers, so if you kick them off the platform it essentially breaks a large volume of servers (specially ones that rely on level roles for channels) and leaves them without the automod it has. Unless discord somehow finds a way to transfer mee6's settings somewhere else, it'll probably stay as much as it really shouldn't have

To be fair, it doesn't necesarily mean that they play youtube videos if they support youtube links and so on. Of course, here it does as that video is only on youtube, but anyway: I had a bot that supported spotify links, but played it from youtube instead. It still did show spotify metadata and if you clicked on it, spotify would open, but it didn't use spotify in a way that breaks spotify's TOS. Yet the bot got banned by discord for breaking TOS of their partners (hit 1.2k servers, way less than other music bots that are fine and thriving ...), and discord refuses to communicate exact reason or reverse the ban. The bot did nothing else that could be breaking TOS of any of their partners.

If I owned Discord I'd actually change the TOS so if the bots make money on premium memberships then the money has to get through Discord. I'd also reserve the right to take the money stored temporarily (withdraws would be monthly let's say) when banning a bot, and then just before withdrawal ban the bots that break TOS. Though from an ordinary user's perspective, if Discord implemented this, it would kinda suck, too...
