"I admit that everything is copied." Look at his expression as he says it. Then he says "huh, finished." Then you see once again he is finished with it. This really bugged him. Nothing unique but the individual living organism. This is probably my favourite clip. So much said here that hits me deep. And the bit that hits me most is the same bit that hit Mahesh Bhatt. Bob says "so we come and listen to you" and UG responds "you're not listening to me Bob" (my god, I love that part) "I have no illusions. Not at all. How can people be interested in this?" (I believe he is referring back to where he admits that he has no original thoughts and the despair this seems to fill him with). Then Mahesh says (and I also felt the same way at this point) "there is something there. What is it that attracts me to you?" It is his claim to free from illusions that hit me and I believe hit Mahesh. We chase all the pleasures of life and they only end in misery. Remember Mahesh with his beautiful young movie star girlfriend who went insane and died so tragically. UG gave practically everything up except the basic necessities of life. He gave up hope and in doing so freed himself of so much misery. We fear we are missing out on life if we don't keep chasing our own tails and chasing the trinkets of the world. UG was a complicated and even contradictory man for sure, but there is just something there that keeps drawing me back. Perhaps the most honest man I have ever come across. "The only thing that can happen to you is that you will be less burdened. That's all. You can't throw away the whole lot, well, bit by bit you throw away, but no, you don't even have to drop anything."

For one he was a charming good looking man. A man who after ages of seeking got so fade up that he spent his whole remaining life talking this. He was blessed with good genes, wealthy family. He could afford to talk all this and spend his time doing nothing. Giving up the seeking does not guarantee any betterment of life he was just lucky !

@UG i searched for 40 years and gave up and still nothing guarantees happiness. So there is misery in searching, there is misery in non searching because then you are in a 'natural state' carrying the burdens of daily life struggles. One can just go thru motions and die when the time is up. Giving up chasing enlightenment opens door only for some hope, some relief. And no, there is nothing 'here, now' that will lead to another door for misery and what not. Just is, just be.

@UG no no it's okay you are not disturbing. I stopped searching because I realized it's not good for my mental health. Obsessive thinking is bad for my mental make up, I gave up because every theory failed in front of me, i gave up because I realized it's all a mental game.

Funnily, this end of the search, or “no search”, the “here and now” that you describe is found in Zen Buddhism. I think Zen basically uses the language of Buddhism as a tradition to get to this natural state. Their kind of enlightenment is not a religious event or anything, it’s a part of seeing reality as it is, without all the junk we layer over it. And I think Zen as a tradition aims to foster that natural state.

People secretly want to be led. This is how cults emerge. Guys like U.G., Osho, Watts, Lao Tzu, just to name a few - they were well above thought and did not care for mundanity. Which means they were clear about what they conveyed, nor they probably could not lie if they wanted to, due to their immaculate clarity. They were honest, even if it came off psychologically painful. As for most who form cults, like Jim Jones, Eligio Bishop, Keith Allen Raniere, for instance, utilized their ways to exploit people to self-gratify their personal trauma. Most of these guys take advantage and create cults, that lead to sex abuse, which NEVER advocates their real personal issue.

@@kunalarora927 There is surely that element to him. He abandoned everything to chase after religious delusion. I know this reality too well. And so he becomes the guru of the extremely frustrated, hopeless individual who sees the shit of existence for what it is. He has given up hope as the hopeless delusion it is and just seeks to live out his days in peace and quiet. But his anger and frustration shows. He sometimes reveals he wishes he had just been a banker who made a ton of money, but here he is having to play the part of a guru, trying to tell people it's all bullshit, but they refuse to accept this and instead prefer to create yet another illusion out of his man. Turn him into some sort of god. I suspected this had all happened even just a century ago we'd have a new religion on our hands. And his disciples would change his message to be more "spiritual".

He is angry and jealous. Spent his life in negating what others said or experienced. His jargon is not new . It was spoken and written by some half enlightened philosophers in the past. His presumed rival JK negated other teachers. This guy negates JK. Those who do not read philosophy in its varied expressions will find this guy amusing. This guy is resistant to knowledge and he claims that resistance is knowledge . He never accepts his own ignorance . And strongly believes he has crossed all the horizons of ignorance . There ends his story in the dustbin . Leave alone quietness in the mind or soul . He was physically restless and intolerant . Nice hair cut and good denture to look like a philosopher.
