Oddly enough, software support is becoming more and more important to me compared to hardware features in what phone I go with.

For the last few years, a top of the line phone had hardware that would be sufficient for like 10+ years, so that isn't very odd.
@Zhinarkos

This will probably become more and more of a focus for people because of the performance that even (some) cheap phones have. Sure there's overhead in software and if you want to play games with nice framerates and still have battery life left afterwards you need both good specs and a large battery. But the industry is starting to be saturated to such an extent these days with devices of similar specs and looks that it is no wonder that people are starting to look to software for their particular tastes. And not just big things like is it stock or custom android or iOS but like Marques said about the Asus phone's customizability, it's the little things in customizing the experience to your liking that define the product experience for people.

That's honestly a reassuring statement, from the other replies people are coming to terms that hardware is kinda slowing down or at least reaching a point where mid to maybe low-end devices are more than optimal, especially for users that don't need a powerhouse of a phone, laptop, etc. It's reassuring because I have to worry less about whether the phone will be of acceptable quality and focus on the software, which gives an idea of the maker. If the software has been given thought into its development then shows me what kind of support I may get, and the type of innovation my money is going to.

Nothing Phone 1 = a good mid-ranger Nothing Phone 2 = a good near-flagship The Nothing Phone 2 kinda sits between the Pixel 7 and S23. Little surprised to hear that you didn't like the phone 1. I got it about a month ago and am really happy with it. I don't game or do anything particularly intense on my phone, so the performance is more than enough for me. Favourite thing though, is the OS. Stock android experience with a few widgets and graphical changes from Nothing. I love the complete lack of bloatware and the continued software support. A couple of updates before I bought it also massively increased the battery life, so with my usual usage, I go about 2 days without charging it. The glyphs are a bit of a gimmick to me, but I expect to use them a bit more once OS 2 is released for the phone 1.

PS: It's 1 Hertz, not 1 Hert as people like to call it. It's named after the German physicist Heinrich Hertz, and thus the Z is part of the word. My last phone (which I just upgraded less than a week ago) was the LG ThinQ G7 and it had a fingerprint reader on the back by the cameras. I really enjoyed that. I have the Samsung S23 Ultra now with the screen fingerprint reader and thus far I prefer the reader at the back. Then again, I used the G7 for like, four or five years. It's always been hard trying to find something to upgrade to because the specs on the G7 were really strong, and most even high-end phones I found were only slightly better spec-wise compared to the G7 (like it had the same memory but a bit more storage, or the processor was just barely more powerful than what I already had, etc). If I didn't already have the LG, I would have been very interested in this phone.

It’s a neat concept but I can honestly barely remember what the back of my case looks like bc I always set my phone down face up so when I get a notification I can see what it is. I just don’t see the advantages here. Anything the back of the phone can do the front can also do but with more info and context. Maybe in not as exciting and interesting way but functionally, I just can’t see anything past the novelty of the glyphs. And getting something bc it’s novel isn’t always a bad thing, of course. Like I’m still really considering picking one up.

This is the calmest angriest man I've ever heard! 🤣 "I RETURNED IT AFTER SOME DAYS". Loved the hosting. One thing to note however, you made a mistake on AOD. Always on Display is the feature where your screen is OFF and you can see information. If you have to tap to turn it on to see it, is not AOD. It's just widgets on a lockscreen. If what you showed here, COULD be set as AOD elements then that is fantastic. But if not, it's just a waste. For example, I have a Galaxy A22 and my AOD setting is set to "only show notifications". So if there are notifications, AOD will be active, but if not it won't.

Nothing needs to mirrior the glyph functions to the always on display based on the sensor that can tell if the phone is up to your head. If the sensor detects the phone is face down then dont add the glyph to the display, if it doesn't then mirror the glyphs to display. That would solve not being able to see them

I got the Zenfone 10 due to the size and decent battery plus the UI which works well for me as I was a fan of OxygenOS before it got ColorOSed. The Nothing 2 looks decent though with performance and battery life and some funk on the UI that I could probably grow to love. There's also less compromise in the camera setup vs. the Zenfone 10, but it's the size I'm really enjoying on the Zenfone. Ironically I thought it would be my massive consumption of KZbin I would miss my OnePlus 7T Pro for because that had a larger screen with no punch-hole or notch, but the Zenfone isn't as compromised in that regard as I was concerned about. I barely notice the punch-hole, even with the ridiculous shiny ring in it, and the size hasn't impacted my viewing enjoyment in any major way (in fact, the lack of brightness vs. modern flagships is probably more of a concern, but I live in the UK and even though it's in the middle of summer, it's grey out!). What has impacted me the most about the size of the Zenfone is having to relearn muscle memory I've built since 2019 on the OnePlus, to start typing one handed again more, and adjust to where the keys are on this smaller device. I could increase my keyboard size more but then it eats into the rest of the screen's real estate, so I'd rather relearn. I think it will be worth it. The only other thing I would say is that the OnePlus 7T Pro's display was bonded at the midframe, so had almost silent taps. The Zenfone is noisier and not enough reviewers talk about this. It's not quite as egregious as the Pixel range which sounds ridiculously hollow and loud when tapping, but more manufacturers should focus on this one thing because the loud, hollow taps do make it feel less premium in my opinion. And if you're typing in bed when your light-sleeping partner is trying to get some shut-eye, that silent tap is a boon.

You were disappointed of the middling performance of a cheap budget phone that used a last gen SOC? If you were hyped for performance and "Got burnt" then that is solely your own fault. There is nothing to blame the Phone (1) for here.

$1000 Canadian Dollars. Not swayed. Too many slightly used flagship phones for a lot less money. In Canada, this price competes directly with arguably better phones. If carriers offered it at discount, I can see it selling, but definitely less sales at full price.

Too expensive, honestly. They're punching above their established market, and that's people who don't want flagship phones due to the caveats that come with them, and of course the unneeded price. It can't be a flagship killer if it's a flagship price.

I kinda disagree. I think Carl Pei learned from Oneplus or even Xiaomi that you can't make the "enthusiastic phone" forever. At $500 - $700, it's still an acceptable price. I mean at this price range now you can't even buy a flagship phone even from enthusiastic brands without compromising the software, hardware or both. I think unless they still can't eliminate the issue of QC (both software and hardware) that plagued the first, Nothing could be a scary competitor to everyone.

@@new1412 The problem is there IS a market for those phones, if people wanted a flagship phone, they would buy a long established flagship phone. They wouldn't be trying something new like the Nothing Phone 2. We've reached a point where the pricing of phones is just out of control.
@new1412
@new1412 Жыл бұрын
@@AhPookAgree with the latter part but again it doesn't mean it wouldn't sell. Like I said previously that there's no other brand nailed both software & hardware at this price range. Stock Android? Checked. Decent Build? Checked. Powerful chipset? Checked Not too small? Checked. Zenfone 10 is probably a phone that can rival this but that's like $200 more ($799) and similarly limited region available as the 1st gen Nothing. So this phone is basically a return of Oneplus all over again and I don't think even in the "established market" they bought the 1st gen and think it would stay at $400 forever.

@@racistpandagodIn general, new versions of Android are released in September/October, for example, Android 13 in September 2022. In my opinion, any smartphone, which comes out after March/April and especially after June/July of the following year, there in 2023, and which promises 3 updates Android versions, say from 13 to 16, should have the legal obligation to correct this untruth, and mark 2 versions or at most 2 and half versions on his specs sheet. Because, releasing a smartphone in June/July with A13, 2-3 months before the new version of Android (A14), and counting this as already one of the promised Android update versions, is more than a scam. Ps: even if, it is true that it is more recurrent among Chinese manufacturers, all Android manufacturers are concerned, Samsung and Google with their A and Fold series.
