@@rolih6 really? what is unique to Apple's ecosystem? google photos ecosystem is fantastic (backup, automated memories, creating photo collections for you, etc), the maps function integrates incredibly well with calendar, even reminds you of what time you should leave to be somewhere on time, including emails you received in gmail with travel itineraries you forgot to add to calendar. links very easily to google home, both of which work great with Spotify (which I realize is not Google, but Spotify also supports storing your own audio collection even with no subscription so I'd never use Apple Music anyways), the google home shows me recipes, allows me to add stuff to my shopping list verbally and immediately view on my phone, allows me to sideload any apps I want not from the google store (or even load my own OS if I really wanted to), has models available with 3.5mm audio jacks if I want to have superior sound quality with an external DAC. What am I missing? different coloured texts and other non industry standard texting (unless I use the more internationally popular whatsapp), facetime (also has both a google equivalent and whatsapp). My Poco X4 GT is almost 2 years old form the release date, costs 300-360€ at release and has a BETTER Mediatek Dimensity 8100 chip. Same 5000mAh battery (which loads at 63W), probably same cameras. What differs is the screen, which is only IPS, it is not IP rated and it has a plastic back (good for changing the battery). But the Poco X4 GT has the most important feature, a headphonejack. All in all the same phone with a bit weaker SoC for the some price 2 years after...

I've been using a Mediatek Dimensity 1200 phone for over 2 yrs now, and it's been rock solid with great battery life, especially for the price I got it for. MTK has come a long way in the last 2-3 years and they're killing it with their flagship (& mid-range) chips as well, just take a look at the Dimensity 8100/8300, 9300, etc. PS - my D1200 is still more powerful than the 7200 in the (2a), 2 years later😎

Unfortunately Mediatek devices do not get any custom rom development, iirc because they do not release source code or drivers for them.
@rodryguezzz
@rodryguezzz 9 ай бұрын
@@askolds11 That's the reason I'm never getting a MTK phone. I got a Lenovo android MTK tablet many years ago running Android 4.4 and its upgrade path was only 4.2>4.4. Someone made a sketchy custom ROM later, but the whole platform sucks. Meanwhile, my Moto G2 is still alive running Android 8, even though I don't use it anymore as phones with 1GB ram are e-waste nowadays. And my Poco X3 Pro is running a great custom AOSP based rom since MIUI has some weird bugs (and there's China too).
@SpFres1
@SpFres1 9 ай бұрын
Completely agree @@rodryguezzz When they'll finally start releasing source codes, they will definitely start getting market share. Custom ROM support is the single most important parameter when buying a phone in my opinion. It is just stupid to buy a phone knowing that after 2 years, while perfectly usable and fast still, it's gonna look like 10 years old. That's the single biggest reason that perfectly good phones end up as e-waste. I still use a OnePlus 6 with Pixel Experience 13 Plus. More phone than you'll ever need.

I suspect that Nothing is saying the 2a is a developer only item because it's effectively incompatible with 5G networks in the US. It only supports one band of 5G of T-Mobile's network (the mid band) and that's it. The manufacturer says "don't use this on Verizon" at all. Since it's not really compatible with much, I don't think they wanted to deal with the headache of returns for people who won't read the limitations and having a dev kit makes it painfully obvious not to buy unless you know what you're up against.

I'm hoping Nothing can get carriet spottiness worked out on their phones for the US market because I think a lot of people chomping at the bit to jump ship from Apple would absolutely love the device and especially its widget-heavy OS. While the Nothing 2a technically works on all of the main providers in a vast majority of their service areas, the near-total lack of 5G and CDMA support for rural areas makes it a hard sell for the outdoorsy or on-the-move type of user-also apparently you need to have your device registered with Verizon for it to even be able to access service, so that's a fun one.

It’s been like this for a few weeks now and only for your videos. Very handy… until the YT adverts play which breaks the experience and can only be fixed with closing and re-opening the YT app again. Either way is handy to check out links while watching your videos in a corner (so stupid they lock a phone feature behind a paywall and the rest of KZbin doesn’t allow this - if you didn’t enable this… then I guess YT are testing it with your channel and now you know!)

The cameras are dire, often not even worth taking the shot and I am on the latest OS, same as the 2a has and the audio is a major issue. Bluetooth always cuts out and often just dips the volume, then you have to press ok to increase the volume past a limiter... every couple of days. Then the random restarts, lock ups, the way the face unlock rarely works... I am really over novelty phones.
