At the end of 1970 the debut single from George Harrison announced a very different world from the colourful 1960s that the Beatles had soundtracked. Its popularity and influence was immense, and defined how the All Things Must Pass album was received.
However, after the song left the charts, it spent the rest of the decade in the courts.

This song, a copy of Spector’s “He’s So Fine” was destined to hit big. It was the first time.

I am a first generation guy with all Beatles material, I was 17 when the song came out. I remember this vividly, MY SWEET LORD was a hit all over the radio where I lived at the time, Daytona Beach, Florida. A DJ on the local radio station right after he played My Sweet Lord played HE'S SO FINE and said, "listen to that! " I was somewhat flabberghasted! I never had heard He's So Fine. My impression of the song at first was thinking , well George has gone totally religious and it was very different sounding from any Beatles , solo or otherwise material. Using SWEET reffering to God or LORD always seemed odd to me, just is an odd way in my mind to do that. Musically I did like the song and was fascinated by the slide guitar lines as a guitar player which to me amost sounded like a backward phrase! You would think Spector and Klein would have realized right away since they were fron that era of NY GIRL GROUP records that George was gonna get nabbed! The melody is identical in the three notes and the way the backing vocals are identical in the arrangements too....I liked the album ALL THINGS ..way better than this song.

I was only 3 or 4 yrs old but the memory of experiencing My Sweet Lord at that time is that it was everywhere. On every car radio, in every store, etc. When my uncle brought home the single I was sure it was a a side profile pic of Jesus.

First time I heard 'My Sweet Lord' it was Cliff Richard singing it on his BBC show around1970. This was before George had released his single. Actually Cliff did a really nice rendition with an acoustic guitar.

Just my opinion but the "Apple Jam" disc would be superb without all that reverb. Much like the rest of the album. Great album all around except for that dang reverb.

My Sweet Lord 2000 doesn't seem to have the 'magic' component.
