I build a pc for my 10 year old nephew. Of course he didn't pay for it but I told him it was for a coworker and he helped me build it. He got into pc from that now he loves looking at pc parts. But when he went to football practice, I took it to his house and set it up. When he got home to see it in his room, he actually cried. It was awesome. He's such a sweet kid it was nice to do that for him.

I was IT on standby at an office lanparty and one guy was strugling to run CS:GO on his 2nd hand bought workstation laptop (latitude 5570). He was a console player and that was his only pc for the lan party. Since I had all the tools at hand and knew that modell inside and out, I cracked it open, gave it a quick cleaning, replaced the thermalpaste with MX4 and set the FPS limit to 60. And he was back in action playing seamlesly in 20 minutes. 👍

I've been building PCs for 24 years. I don't do it hardly at all anymore for others. But I like the fact that you think forward. You think about the user and what his needs are and his experience level of being a PC user. Most people are intimidated by PCs and don't understand how they operate or even what's inside of them to some extent. Nor have the capability to fix or troubleshoot problems that arise. It's easy to forget those little details when you've been building PCs, reviewing them, and troubleshooting them for so long. Good choice of components. I'll see others skimp on the power supply, when its genuinely one of the most important pieces of hardware to keep your computer running stable and for a long time with clean, stable power.

Today we put together a system for my husband, who does casual gaming only and is currently on a 4th gen or 5th gen intel processor system with a whopping 1g video card. 7600x + b650 mobo + 32g of DDR5 @6000 + rx 6650xt gpu in a Lancool 216 (LOVED building in it, btw, the cable management is s tier). For our son, who is about to turn 13, has been extremely helpful and getting mostly great grades and loves gaming but is currently on a 6th gen intel processor with a 4 gb video card, I'm building a system next weekend as follows: 9800x3d + X870 mobo + 32g DDR5@ 6000 + RX 7800XT + 3T of SSD, most of which is very fast + Arctic Liquid Freezer III AIO. His birthday and Christmases are usually pretty low key, and his birthday is like a week after Christmas, so ehhhh but he's turning 13 so we're kind of going all out this year.

7800XT's are monsters. They really don't get treated with the respect they deserve. Easy 3ghz overclock out of them and are pretty easy to cool so they maintain that high clock. A great chip.

Back in august i built my first pc. Luckily i have a microcenter a couple hours from me in MA. I grabbed that same mobo, with a 7800x3d and a 32gb kit cl32 gskil x flare, montech 903 max case and an asus dual oc 4070 ti super. That mobo, ram and processor bundle deal was a life saver. And jay, thank you forn making the content you do. I knew exactly what i wanted to buy because of your channel. I never saw myself being able to build my own.. thanks dude.

Why did you get a cl32 kit instead of the cl30 kit? Nothing wrong with the cl32, I have flare 6000 cl32, but I got it because the cl30 was ~20% more expensive.

The RAM isn't even officially supported by the mobo... if you go on the gskill website and check, but in actual practice the expo profile works and i get the full timing profiles... can't complain. It was 499 for the ram, mobo, and 7800x3d... at that time the processor alone was 430 bucks if you could find one

I know you had a fixed budget but I would not put an 8GB GPU in any system any more, especially if you think they have a 1440p or higher monitor. The 3070 will be easy to sell and upgrade once they have more money later though. I also recommend friends who I help with first builds to get 850W or 1000W PSUs as they can easily last 10 years and a GPU in 2-3 years is likely to need more power. The CPU you chose is very efficient though so I get that helps offset the requirements. I try to recommend people save up the $100-150 more if they cannot afford a 12GB GPU in order to avoid something that will start causing problems in the near future and will cost more in the long term when they have to upgrade it

I was excited when I bought the stuff for my first build and put it together (was scared I would ruin something just by touching it wrong lol), but I was _WAAAAAAY_ more excited getting to help my preteen son (at the time) pick out parts for a budget build and showing him how to put it together a few years after I had built mine. He and I don’t have a lot of mother/son time anymore as he’s gotten older, but I was giddy when he finally came to me asking if we could look into ways for him to earn money to buy some of the parts if we could help him with the rest. He let me deal with putting in the CPU and cooler along with getting the PSU situated with cables, but I made him hook up the rest. The kid lit up like a tree once it booted which is the moment I was most excited for with seeing his reaction … until he realized he still had to install Windows, update drivers, flash the bios, adjust settings… That’s been a few years, but I like that he took an interest in it and has continued to try with staying on top of things.

Wildly enough, I just built my sister a PC very similar to this. I picked up the 7600X3D MC bundle and got a 3070 from my brother to make it all happen after repurposing stuff I had in it originally. If ever it needs to be upgraded, it's a very straightforward process. Maybe a new case, and updated fans.

I feel you with Montech. I just got the Montech XR and absolutely love it. It's a great case. Fans are a little loud but you know. $70 or so...I can live with them. Edit: It also fits my Gigabyte Aorus Master 4090 with room to spare. Yes I know $1900 graphics card in a $70 case.... PC was originally in a H7 Flow but decided I wanted a slightly smaller fish tank case.

I’ve Been studying DIY PC Tech channels obsessively for the Last 10 weeks as a newb to the pc industry and after learning the process along with trying to become Hardware literate. Due to lack of availabilities of microcenters, I actually ended up mailing a gaming buddy one of their mobo bundles before they changed how bundles work. Its actually so nice helping someone go from a 1660 and.. i dont even rem his cpu, some sort of ancient intel cpu, to a modern rig with a 7800x3d and 4080 super. We sat in discord while he held his phone camera up so i could walk him through building his first self made pc. I do hate how they changed how bundles work though. You use to be able to swap the motherboards and sometimes even the ram and still get the discount.

Looks like a well-balanced PC Jay, and your cable management looked good this time. When I upgraded my uncles pc so he would be able to use Windows 11 I used the standard Ryzen 7600x and an Asus ROG Strix X670E-A Gaming WiFi (overkill I know), I originally bought it for my 7950x but switched to an MSI MPG X670E CARBON WIFI I also had 32gb Intel spec DDR5 for the Asus board so I saved some money there, I used the Phanteks Eclipse G360A for his pc and a Corsair H150i AIO (overkill for that CPU but it'll stay nice and cool). His PC is running a stock non super 2070, more than enough to play his games like SWTOR. For cable management I prefer to use a zip tie gun like one of those cheap ones you can find for $30 or less on Amazon or the more expensive Panduit GTS-E that I've used at work, you can adjust the tension on them before it cuts the zip tie.

I had bought an old prebuild open box at microcenter at the onset of the pandemic with with a 2060 and a 2700x. I spent... 800-ish $$$ last year got a 7800XT, at 32gig kit of ram and a 5800x3d and one of the aquarium style montech cases. Putting everything together myself and seeing it boot up just fine that first time was a hell of an experience for someone who had never even opened a case before.

This is off topic and I’m not sure if you actually read these comments or not but as I was watching your videos for new build inspiration and ideas, I actually bought the pro tech toolkit from “IFixIt” after seeing them in most of your videos. I was able to revive a MacBook Pro M2 that had been dead for 2 years after spilling red wine on it. At the time, I took it into a repair shop and the technician said that my only option was to buy a new MacBook m2 because the cost of repair would be the same. Instead of throwing away a $2000 machine, it just sat there collecting dust. With the kit, I was able to take the whole thing apart with ease and completely wiped everything down with isopropyl rubbing alcohol. As I was putting everything back together, I was kinda nervous thinking that 6 hours of cleaning was for nothing because the thing had been dead for so long and had corrosions. As I popped the case back together and plugged in the charger, the device lit up with life. Here’s my TwoCents, keep up with the tips and advice videos for us who are still learning. Team IFixIt!!

I just bought that Micro Center bundle to upgrade from an i5 9600K. Man what a difference. Before my CPU was bottle necking my 3060 Ti. Now I'm getting the full power out of my GPU and it's awesome! Plus now I'm not stuck on a dead platform.

I recently upgraded cases from a Cooler Master Q500L to a Lian Li O11 Air Mini to help improve the thermal performance of my i7 14700K and 3060 12gb. So much easier to build in a dual chamber small case. Such a sick build, Jay!!

just spec'd out a build for my nephew. A firm 1k budget we couldn't spring for the 7600x3d but rather went with the $299 7600x + mobo combo. Now it's time to hunt down a 3070 on ebay for around $300. My brother was pushing for a 4060 but I convinced them a used 3070 will be better.

I just built a media server and I've never given a shit about cable management before. I got corsair case. I decided to try. I'm proud of how it turned out. I think you would be happy with it. It's starting with a 2tb drive 32 gb ddr4. I had a spare 3600x (super limited used) laying around and a b-550 (never used at all) motherboard also laying around. I went with an Intel A310 GPU for $99. It's perfect for media encoding. I'm not playing games on it. Just running a jellyfin server. Now (not including the spare parts) it cost me about $570. I had to buy wifi as it wasn't a wifi board. Fortunately gigaparts has wifi adapters! Giga parts is like 1/4 to 1/8 the size of microcenter, but it's a similar type store.

I learned a lot in my youth working with outdated hardware, trying to upgrade it, optimize it, and such to get it to work with newer games at the time. With that in mind, I would buy the kid a junker PC with something like an i7 6700 to 8700, 16gb memory, and toss in a 1050ti or intel arc card. For basic 1080p gaming that's usually enough. If they want more, they'll have to figure things out.

@jayztwocents I found your channel and have watched it and it's finally giving me the confidence to try and build a PC for my 10-year-old daughter. I can't in good faith call it gaming PC because it's going to be using really old parts but it's the best I can do financially. However, I want her to have the experience with a PC because I feel it's such a vital skill for future generations. So the best I can do right now is an I-5 3570k a GTX 460, a 500 w power supply and an MSI board an old Dell XPS case from when they used to make gaming PCS using that instead of just Alienware. Anyway again, just wanting to say thank you for what you do and I enjoy watching your video

Current sales were great! Grabbed a 7600x & 7800xt combo with ddr5 6000mt + decent case, fans, psu, etc. Build came out to $1,000. I'd highly suggest if you want to upgrade try and do it now before prices skyrocket again. Edit: If I reused my old pc (which is still decnt but I plan to resell it to get some of my expenses back from it) I could have saved on case, psu, storage (tech I am just giving the new owner a good upgrade 1tb ssd), and the motherboard. In reality you could pick up a system for $600-$1000 depending on what you have on hand. I also "balled out" on certain components because I wanted them.

the microcenter bundle is a goated value except i dont like the fact that they sell with CL36, the same G.Skill flare x5 ram is available at CL28, thats an absolutely massive reduction in latency. And price between these two timings is most likely 10-15 bucks

@@Jayztwocents Where are you finding $399 at? I can't even find the Flare X in stock anywhere at CL28 but the Z5 Neo RGB which is the same as the Flare X just with RGB is $129. Even with that said, the CL30 is only $99 which is $10 more than the CL36. I'm not even concerned as much about the CL36 as I am the fact that it being CL36 means it is Samsung or Micron which have looser sub-timings than Hynix which the CL30 is. When it comes to DDR5, there is Hynix, then on a tier way down below you have everyone else. Almost like how Samsung B-Die was when it came to DDR4. EDIT: Found the X5 at $399 buried on Amazon. Honestly it looks like it's probably a temporary price or a pricing mistake that they aren't expecting anyone to buy it at since it says it won't even ship for 1-2 months. No reason for the X5 to be that price when the Z5 Neo RGB which is a higher tier as far as GSkill's price structure is only $129. Even their "Royal Neo" which is typically their most expensive RAM is only $146 for the same timings.

The Air 903 Max is a great case, worth $100 and nearly always available for $75 or less, in black or white. Along with slightly smaller Air 1000 Premium, it has become a no-brainer go-to for my builds.

Wire management always gets me. The systems I’ve built for other people I probably over zip tie to make sure everything is neat and tidy. My personal systems… if you can bang the panel into place it’s fine. 😂

Current desktop is in a Montech Air with a Deepcool AIO. Have another I built in a Lian Li Mesh White with a Deepcool White Tower ARGB cooler, in a box after building. Built my Niece a white one for Christmas last year it also has a Deepcool AIO, also a Montech case. The White Montech was a solid as the Lian Li. Always liked Deepcool, too bad they are gone at my local MicroCenter now.

My first fully purpose built gaming rig used an Athlon 64 x2 6400+ Black edition. My first PC was a 486dx and then a Pentium II. Both of those I had to modify to play games. Adding a game card for the controllers and better video card. On the Pentium II I had a 16mb Rage card initially and then went nuts and got a 128mb Radeon. Such a beast. On my Athlon build around Christmas 07 I had an Nvidia GT8600 I was ballin in college.

Probably wont get seen. But... OpenRGB for the strix card is a sanity savior. When my card had the strix cooler on it, once it was supported, thats what I used. While anything is better then armory crate, it actually made the cards RGB useable.

I definitely suggest going with a TP Link Ethernet Adapter for the setup if straight wired isn't available. It's FAR faster than pure wifi. I was having issues staying in lobbies on Valorant and it got to the point where I was getting 2-3 DAY bans simply because I would lose connection for a second, reboot the game and get back in maybe 2 rounds later and play the rest of the game. Bought the ethernet adapter that sends ethernet through your electric outlets and I've never lost connection in a game since unless I'm having legitimate connection issues due to a storm or the company doing maintenance on their box that's located near me.

i built a computer for my nephew this Christmas. budget around 750 i got the first montech case that you and ditched those fans because of the daisy chained molex got some knock off lian li inf fans on amazon that was argb and pwm controlled. also put my old 980ti in there but he plays war thunder and roblox so it should handle it i did tell his mom about the b580 if she wanted to upgrade to current tech on the gpu
