I think the dimming of the Nothing phone at 6:24 can be easily explained with the difference between maximum peak brightness and maximum full screen brightness. Typically companies brag with max peak even though this means that the display can only get this bright in a small area at once because of heat. On OLED TV‘s you can see when the HDR dims down in scenes with large bright elements like the sky.

When you rotate the phone it's briefly going into SDR then swaps to HDR. Most all androids do that. SDR looks overall brighter because it's a flat brightness across the screen. HDR is darkening the low lights and brightening up the highlights like it's supposed to. Some like the contrast of HDR and some like the brightness of SDR

That’s odd iPhone doesn’t do that. HDR is WAAAY brighter than SDR in every case, so much so that even pure whites in SDR surrounding HDR content look extremely dull.

It’s not about one product, it’s the whole eco-system that Apple products are based on! But if someone is not invested in Apple Ecosystem, and their friends and relatives have androids, then definitely Nothing phone 2 is a good option, especially at that price point.

@@ispianist That wasn't my statement. My statement was "the reason to buy an iPhone was never for the spec.... but for the ecosystem". It is overpriced and overrated, but its still better than anything else. I had an Android phone for almost 8 years and switched 2 years ago because everyone nagged at me for the Green Bubble. I don't care who uses what personally.

@ozzygm3178 Your statement lacks of facts. Nowadays buying Android or iPhone is pretty much very similar experience. Both platforms and hardware has been improved. To say one is better than other is just lack of experience. I own both and I can tell you for sure that there is not much difference. I have the iPhone 13 pro for work. I use the s22 ultra for my personal device. I actually like better the Samsung due longer screen when I am gaming and also photography due the zoom.

I love my Nothing Phone 1, but my carrier wouldnt activate my import. If they support this phone, it might replace my iphone XR. Im old school, I worshiped tech back when you could get tech that made everyone in the room interested... Today everything is so bland and disappointing, I LOVE that Nothing is bring style back to tech.

So this "smart" guy was using iOS 16.0.2? Literally everyone knows that earlier revisions of iOS 16 were bundled with bugs, UI lag, Heating issues (which directly affected performance). I ran geekbench on my iPhone 14 (not plus) with iOS 17 public beta, single core score remained within margin of error while there was a hundred point increase for multi core score. The improvement was in public beta release of iOS 17. Imagine what the increase would be in the most recent (stable) version of iOS 16.

If you're buying your 1st phone, get the NothPhon2. The functionality of the glyphs alone blows out Apple or any other smartphone. The monochromatic design of the UI and the customization of the widgets alone is superior to that of any phone, Apple or not. And the NP2's AI cam's exposure is just fantastic. Cant wait for the shootout. Watch for the highlights and the shadows.

The arguments for the ecosystem are crazy to me because that's not really an argument for people who don't already have apple-everything. If we're looking at these two phones in a vacuum, especially in a world where apple only has 30% of the global marketshare (about the same as Samsung, they trade blows year-by-year), we can't just assume that everyone else is using an iPhone and cares about blue bubble, and that the customer comparing these phones already has a macbook, imac, apple watch, etc. In a way, it's a massive downside. If the 'ecosystem' is the reason behind a $300 price gap, you're essentially saying that this ecosystem essentially costs you $300 each upgrade, and forces you into brand loyalty on several of your devices. And somehow their app suite and a blue bubble on someone else's screen makes up for this? I don't really get it.

Yeah if it’s a software issue then I wonder if the did that on purpose just to use their selling points. Hoping the users don’t notice the degrading quality. In order to keep the competition with companies. But low key have hidden gimmicks because if it ran at full power all the time it might shorten the battery life significantly or maybe overheat or will burnout who knows you will need to buy another exact phone to make sure this was not intentional and If it is/was was it to cover the tracks of lacking in an area.

Seems like software trickery to compensate for the lower price of the parts. Screen supports 1600nits but in a far smaller window which makes it useless or only good for movie watching with bright elements like the sun, candles, small explosion. The speakers also seem to be tuned to minimise or hide distortion on bass heavy portions or extreme highs. Again compensating for the lower quality parts but software tries to deliver high quality experiences for 80% of usage scenarios.

Especially if you compare it to the Phone 1 which sucked and now this one is much better. 1600 nits does not look 33% brighter than 1200 nits as you would think, because nits brightness increases by a logarithmic scale. Maybe that has sth to do how our eyes + brain filter bright light?
