Next time check inside the outdoor disconnects, that’s were we write the uint number so the numbers don’t fade away over time. Great video

Similar problem for me today. New thermostat with common stuck in the B terminal. You can still blow a transformer with a popper. Put your amp clamp around one of the popper wires. If amps jump over 3 to 4 on any wire you will see it instantly. Love watching you troubleshoot.

Great idea thanks 😊

Problem is if you use your multimeter in place of a popper or short pro, you can't use your multimeter for anything else. Further a popper (circuit breaker) allows you to complete the circuit while working on it. IOW you can disconnect the low voltage wires in the air handler, complete the shorted circuit with a circuit breaker and then test the wires elsewhere. That way you don't end up with a pile of blown fuses.

Goodman/Amana have been famous for the wiring to the pressure switch in the condenser running against the copper lines and shorting. I used to use a piece of Armaflex to make sure it wouldn't happen again.

Great troubleshooting! That was a satisfying repair I bet. I caught the rerun of your live chat and that turned out great I thought. That is a fine Simpson Meter too, I bought one with leather handle and mirrored scale from a Navy guy about 35 years ago when he was liquidating all his belongings for $20.00 complete with a leads set. They are fine conversation pieces now. Thanks again for another great video! 😀🇺🇸

@@m9ovich785 Back in the 80s there were no capacitor meters that I remember, and Fluke digitals were something to admire! Analog meters were the best way to check capacitors. Simpson and Triplett made very similar meters. I was hired as junior engineer for an FM/AM radio station while going to school and remember being envious of that Fluke!☺

Do fuses break down over time or what causes them to blow ?
@HVACGUY2 жыл бұрын
Too much amperage, in this case a direct short to ground. There are some bigger amperage fuses that can deteriorate, but I’ve never seen that in these little ones.
@TheOnespeedbiker2 ай бұрын
You never just replace a blown fuse; always assume a short.

Any designer or home builder who buries a HVAC system like this needs a serious punch in the face. If is not a matter of IF it is a matter of WHEN. Mechanical devices fail eventually. And will need service or replacing. Why would you make it an absolute nightmare for someone to do either of those. What you need to demo 2-3 walls just to get an old system out and new one in?
@JIKI20052 жыл бұрын
Usually replacement is the same size, unless you are going up a ton, especially on heat pump air handlers. But yeah most systems now wont fit unless doing a bunch of demo.
