Been waiting for you do do a test on the V100. Totally agree with what you have said about this bike. The S version is fabulous, I know I got mine on the 29th December. The slow speed handling on this bike is impeccable, it trickles along at sub walking speeds so easily( it is way better at this than my V7 850 Guzzi), which for me as a short rider (5ft6 and 29inleg) is really valuable when coming up to traffic lights so I dont have to put my feet down. As a shorty the standard seat is a little high but it is manageable. (I am waiting for the lower seat) At the moment I am finding that the fuel reserve light comes on at 170-190 miles and takes about 12 and bit litres. Havent tried to run it far beyond the point where the reserve light comes on. The fancy Ohlins suspension is the business. We have some pretty awful surfaced roads here in South Wales and the S just seems to take everything in its stride. As to the brakes well, superlative is an understatement. I am still underestimating how effective they are (now got 1600 miles on the bike) I will say that in tour and rain mode there is a lot of fork dive on the S, which can be dialled out by adjusting the brake assist suspension setting for the front forks. The seat is very comfortable for several hours and those little wings work very well at diverting rain away from the tops of the riders thighs. The one downside of the Mandello is that it is a positive muck magnet, a ride during one of UKs wet winter days will see the bike covered in road muck. As the front fender is so short the front of the engine and that radiator takes a right pummelling from road detritus. The rear hugger is just as useless. But then if I couldnt take a joke I shouldnt be riding a shiny new bike in the middle of British winter with salt and muck all over the roads. Im loving this bike. If you haven't had a chance to try one get along to your local Guzzi dealer, if you can find one close that is, as the biggest gripe about Guzzi's is the sparse dealer coverage.

Curious to know your take on QS... my 2015 R1200R is rough on 1,2 gears...just fine all others up and down. Your Mandello S?
@NothingToProve Жыл бұрын
QS from 1st to 2nd are very difficult to do especially on Boxers (BMW). Simply because the distance between 1st & 2nd is so big it's hard for the computer to get it right. The rest of the gears are closer together and therefore easy to get right. Even on my 1250RT, 1st to 2nd using the QS is clunky to say the least, I just use the clutch but the rest of the gears I always use the QS...smooth as silk. Although KTM, Triumph, Ducati, Aprilia, Honda, Yamaha usually get the QS right from 1st to 2nd, so why BMW can't is beyond me. (The BMW "guys" say some of that has to do with the shaft drive too but my response to that is: "Triumph got it right on the new Tiger 1200 and that's shaft drive!") take care, Scott

@@alanando Id say the Mandello QS is rough up and down in the first 3 gears but in 4-5-6 it is smooth up and down.

Very interesting bike! I'm glad sport-touring is still alive:) and wondering how does it compare to BMW R1250R or RS? I went for R1250R now as it is more agile on curvy roads than RS, but I use it mostly on longer joureys also often with my piliion, so I've added some wind protection to it. This Guzzi looks like a mixture of R1250R and RS what is exactly what I'm looking for, but can it really compete in terms of driving agility, refinement and comfort? The RT is too much biker for me as my goal is to have the most fun in the bends:) I'm curious what do You think about it!

6:14 great to see this information included and considered. Part of my buying decision for my F900R was that in 2020 when I ordered it, it was one of the cleanest running bikes available, at the time most of the competition had yet to be updated for Euro5. I get plenty of eye rolls for even considering fuel consumption and emissions when comparing bikes, but a clean-running efficient engine is making more power per unit of fuel, who wouldn't want more power for the same cost?

Good to see ya reviewing again (IMO you are one of the best motorcycle reviewers out there). I LOVE this Guzzi (all Guzzi's for that matter). I have a 2019 R1250RT that has started giving me problems in the last three months and my local dealer has no clue how to fix it. I can ride highway/country roads for an hour or more and stop for fuel. After fill up, bike will not start. It seems like battery is dead. If I shut off ignition and wait 30 minutes it starts fine. Almost like something needs to reset. Only thing my dealer has captured is a low voltage error code after. They have no idea how to address it though and I only have 2 months left on my warranty. Very disappointed in BMW.

Thank you for a great review. I've had different Guzzis, and like liking your (very excelent) plus other real rider feedback. I like the Mondello style and the specs and build quality are excellent. My last guzzi was a 2006 Griso, most non guzzi riders thought 2016 to 2018 model with a undefinable style holding no contemporaries. With 5 speed clunky box, unusual (compared to mainstream) engine dynamics, shaft slap, long wheel base, etc requiring rider input and compensation not required on Japanese bikes. In a sence for me the question is "Do I want a 'refined' Guzzi", so how do the traditional foibles and nuances associated with (and loved by Guzzistia) transfer to the V100 from previous generations? Any thoughts?

@NothingToProve Жыл бұрын
Well, all OEMs are having problems delivering what they said they'd deliver since the "shipping container" problems started a few years ago, especially when containers are coming from Asia to the west (And of course COVID). So if and when is all "hush hush" so to speak or they just say "it's coming!" BUT they don't say when 😢 But the GT+ costs 2k more than the GT and all you are getting for that 2k is a 7"TFT, ACC & a first for Yamaha - linked braking system - but Honda has been doing that for over 2 decades, so why it took Yamaha over 20 years to do it is beyond me. So of course I'll be on one as soon as one becomes available but with just 3 new things to look at...hmm...all for 2k more...I probably won't be very positive about it. take care, Scott

Hi Scott This motorcycle is definitely in the center of attention of BMW riders for obvious reasons. Do you think it is worth switching from F900 XR to this V100? As you know there is no shaft drive or boxer engine in the XR. Thx
@NothingToProve Жыл бұрын
Well, a chain drive has never bothered me whatsoever, I've never done proper chain maintenance and I've always gotten the full life out of a chain. So what is important to me is the sound and the sound on the 900XR after a while began to wear on me, the sound of the cam chain and other mechanical sounds too, it just got to the point that I didn't want to hear it any more. And I switched to the 1250RT, a deeper richer sound that is not in your face all the time...as this is what the 900XR felt like after putting 16k on it. Now this V100, the sound is a low tone and very similar to the 1250 boxer but has more soul and character. I think the difference is that the XR sound was hollow and left me feeling empty and the 1250 boxer fills some of that with soul and the V100 goes even one step further with "oh wow, I can ride this bike all day with this sound" kind of thought. Is the V100 a better bike, hmm...debatable...but if I had to do it again in 2020 and the V100 was a choice when I bought the 900XR, I'd choose the V100. take care, Scott

At around 10' you demonstrate the 'quickshifter' up & down. I see your right hand moving, especially on the downshift - the whole idea is that you simply close the throttle & the AUTO blipper blips the gas AUTOMATICALLY - you'll simply confuse the system by trying to do it yourself. Same on the upshift - you should simply maintain gas OPEN (the more the better!!) - closing gas will make the change worse!. Apart from that, great review!!!!

Very nice video as always😎 Only pity is that you have said very few words on the adaptive aerodynamics and the windshield and how do they change the wind against the driver that for a touring bike could be very interesting but maybe now you are too used to your RT 😜 Great bike🤩

I have a V100 S on order. Apparently it should have been delivered in November... Oh well, I'm not in a rush, I will enjoy it when it arrives.

Another good review! I just love saying the bike name with a glass of wine. Do you still get the same lateral vibrations that you do with the air cooled motor? I like the concept of the wings but do you feel any difference in air pressure as they open? Good looking bike I do like seeing the engine over the frame Thx mate! USA

Thank you! Yes but it's been greatly reduced to the point that I hardly noticed it as compared to the V7/V9/V85. And the 22% reduced air pressure...well, I really couldn't feel any but it was cold and I was in several layers so it was hard to feel anything. So no, I didn't notice a difference with the wings out it at all. take care, Scott

In metallic white it looks awesome!!! Pity they put black plastic in the middle of the tank imo.

Any thoughts about the shaft drive and comparison to your RT?

Yea, the RT is heavier. LOL! Other than that, I couldn't feel a difference. take care, Scott

Hey man thanks for the chart. My only note would be rather than listing every model generation maybe just "updated" so you know how long in the tooth the current model is.

Interesting bike, thanks for the video. But: don’t close the throttle when upshifting with a quickshifter.
