Hi guys, I need to make a correction, the gas tank on the 1300GS is NOT plastic, it IS aluminum. I went down to my local dealer and looked at one that was taken off a bike and touched it, knocked on it and yep it's metal, not plastic. So the statement that I made that it's plastic was wrong. take care, Scott

No doubt an impressive machine but as a “senior” rider who still likes the occasional intermediate level adventure the GSA is 50+ kg too heavy for me. I hope all the features hold up to daily abuse. Excellent, real world review👍

Exactly what I think... after 40 years BMW i'm going lighter not heavier. Loads of stuff on the bike but my day will be ok when they present a polyvalent bike around 220kg and not the to extreme F900GS and to heavy F900GSA. I'll ride the F800GSA for a while longer....
@Fernando9005423 күн бұрын
I accept the weight disadvantage and I agree. But when we get used dealing with it, that’s when it becomes, eventually, to be an advantage. I used to ride a BMW 1250 RT that weighs around 280 kG, and I trade it for a K1600 GT that weighs about 60KG more and after the adaptation period I concluded that I upgraded a lot more than what I was expecting and now I’m significantly satisfied with the decision I made. More weight is not always a bad thing. 👍🏻

I own a 2021 1250 gsa and was ready to upgrade to the 1300 until I tested it a few days ago. I then discovered I like the 1250 better because it feels more refined, better ride height and comfort on highways and bumpy roads, better seat, smoother acceleration. The automatic gearshift didn’t impress me as it shifts too roughly and abruptly to be comfortable especially for a pillion. The adaptive cruisecontrol is pretty much useless as it keeps way too long distance to the car ahead (on minimum setting). I also scraped the footpegs on a leanangle that would be no problem on the 1250 and shouldn’t be a problem on any bike. For the electric windscreen adjuster to make sense it should have had a dedicated switch. The engine sound is also not a selling point, much more satisfying on the 1250. However the gear ratio on the 1300 is certainly an improvement in 5th and 6th. Also good handling. Overall though it failed to keep me in the mood for a swap…

You will probably have lost 10k on your 1250, keep it, this 25k madness for bikes worth 15k. A brand new mercedes e220 cdi cost double the price of Gsa for 10 times the tech and metal.
@Ron-c1vАй бұрын
@@checker3694 Very true, but I was really keen to upgrade despite that. I ride a lot so the depreciation per year is pretty equal whether I replace the bike every 3 years or ride it to scrap
@aerisurvey4934Ай бұрын
Probably you are riding better with the 1300, as the footpegs are in fact higher on the 1300 than on the 1250. I owned the 1250, and upgraded to the 1300. The dynamic ride is so so much better on the 1300, and keeps delivering after 10000km. Yes, is more sportier, but that´s one of the best part of it, and funny enough, my wife finds more confortable the 1300. Is more stiff, but it filters irregularities better.

@Ron-c1vАй бұрын
@@aerisurvey4934 See where you’re coming from. The 1300 is a little sportier. Checked with the dealership who confirmed the footpegs are lowered by 2 cm compared to the 1250. Interesting, nice review. I'm not sure about ASA, something I never knew I needed. I would have to try it out myself. I ride a GS. I picked the regular GS. For me the question is the comparison between the the 1300 GS and 1300GSA. Is it more comfortable and do the advantages of the GSA outweigh the extra bulk and weight. I am about your size, in my 60's. The extra weight is probably to much for me to be comfortable handling the bike after i get of and want park it. I can flatfoot my 1200GS with the seat in the higher position for comfort. Its hefty. I can lift it by myself. It's 200+ mile range. Is enough 99% of the time. I liked the 1300GS. I like the adaptive height. I would like a heated seat. Every review tells me its less comfortable. Than the older bikes. Long distance comfortably with the versatility to go off piste, is why I ride a GS. Apart from the heated grips. I don't really use the extra bits and bobs on my 1200. An RT might make more sense 90% of the time.
@roncoleman8351Ай бұрын
I’m ok with the design, except for the beak…it’s too squared off…I wish it were closer to the 1250. Maybe the aftermarket will notice and give it a decent fix at some point…not hopeful though. I was that pillion 😲 The weight of a bike is not about the Kg numbers, but the COG and how it carries that weight. I rode a R100RT at an open day around the same time, I'd never rode anything bigger than a 100cc bike until that day, that 'barn door ' screen deceived you on how fast you were going.....an RT100RT will comfortably travel at 80mph on fast A roads or motorways without any wind buffeting.... at least that's what my mate tells me....😜 The truth is the RT is better for most people two up touring on normal roads.

BMW was the first to say that the new 1300GS has a plastic tank, when they announced it last year at the press launch. Can you please tell me why you say it's not?
@aerisurvey4934Ай бұрын
@@NothingToProve This was not meant to be an argument as it is a fact. I have a 1300 and you just need to touch the two exposed parts of the tank on each side and feel the cold touch of metal, in this case aluminum, very different from plastic, or touch it with another metal piece and you will hear the characteristic sound. The person who told you it was plastic was probably not the person producing it, but someone strangely uninformed from the marketing office. In fact, on the brand's own website, on the GS1300 model page, in the "Be unmistakable" section, it explains, for those who don't have or had a GS1300 that can play it, "The scaled-back design, the unique body, the light aluminum tank - everything works together in an efficient and well-integrated way"

@@NothingToProve yeap, sometimes they do that. Still regarding the tank, I think is not the case. Probably is the sense that the people get it due the amount of plastics these new models use, unfortunately, but the tank I think is metal since the launch. Sorry, it's such an ugly motorcycle. No matter how well it rides, etc zero interest. The bike has to look good, especially at that price point. My next adventure bike will not be a GS or GSA...

Why I left BMW, too tall, too heavy and they need an Italian designer, it’s horrid…hope the new RT keeps its curves.
@SP-xd8gs19 күн бұрын
design is not about curves anymore, angles n boxy

i think it is the ugliest byke ever. it is like a closet on wheels ....so square ... i don`t get why do people need so much power ? few decades ago, the biggest engine , motorcycle engine , was no more than 350 cm3
@thorstenduessler6101Ай бұрын
A scooter might have just the right amount of power for you then 😂😂
