It's a easy repair replacing the bolt. The bolt shears the head off and drops it in the engine it's a major failure. But replacing the the bolt is easy. Pull the Evap Canister, Starter/Gen, Clutch Cover. Pull bolt replace with new bolt, replace clutch cover gasket. Bolt can fail on 6MT or DCT.

@@hanspraet332 You don't have to remove the fuel tank. There is a well known Goldwing mechanic that thinks the tank has to be removed. Look at your bike. Removing the fuel tank is a waste of time. Pull the evap can and coolant overflow and there is plenty of room to work it. I have the parts to do mine and was going to replace it over the winter myself. But now that there is going to be a recall and the fuel pump recall needs to be done. I will just let a dealer screw with this plastic fantastic. I have a Yamaha MT-09 to ride while the Wing is in the shop.

Hi Chris-Really appreciate you getting this information presented to the Gold Wing community. In our local ride group here in Wisconsin, there are 5 other Gold Wing riders...4 of which have 2018 models. I did pass along your PSA video to them today and they were very appreciative. DFW Honda told me today that my 2021 manual transmission is in the range of VINs in the recall. They are currently repairing their sales floor bikes and has put me on a call list when ready to repair sold bikes. Honda estimates this being a 6 hour job but that typically means an 8-10 hour task.

I received two notices to go in for the recall on the fuel pump and haven't got to it yet. Riding season in Massachusetts is almost over for this year. I'll wait for this recall and get them both done at the same time in early Spring. 2012 Goldwing DCT.

I hope when they say the engine might stall really doesnt mean the engine might lock up because those are two seriously different things.

I’m glad you mentioned the ticking on the right side because I was becoming concerned with my 2023 model that has started to tick loudly especially at a cold startup. I’m sure you have previously done a video on this issue so I will be looking through old videos.

No your item to worry about is the alternator drive gear Took engine removal and 40 hours of labor to repair it on my 2012 Thankfully extended warranty covered it

I just took a 2700mi trip on mine a few weeks ago and still would have gone on the same trip even if I'd have gotten this notice prior. Heck, I still haven't completed the fuel pump recall on mine and I've got 27k miles on the bike. I'll bring it in around 30k and have them see if my fuel pump is affected and if it needs this completed too once I receive the notification. I figured it'd be a good time for them to do the air filter then too. I am a little frustrated that now there's 2 potential recalls on my bike, but I will say, Honda has always been great about addressing issues with their 4-wheeled and 2-wheeled vehicles. Many manufacturers seem to try and sweep things under the rug until they're pervasive enough to ignore anymore.

Concerning the “ticking” of the engine….my Goldwing (2018 Tour manual transmission. 12,000 miles) is NOT my daily rider so it sits for weeks and weeks at a time. I keep it on the center stand and I’ve never had the ticking from my engine.

I do have a question for others here. I purchased a 2023 DCT this year. (Goldwing #6) When I start the engine I have a weird whirring/whistling noise that is very noticeable until the engine warms up completely. Almost like a high-pitched exhaust leak. I don't have a clue. Nor does my local dealership. Any ideas? It's a bit irritating but I will continue to ride unless I am told otherwise by big Honda. Thanks Thanks CM!

Regarding the fuel pump issue. A local independent shop owner who previously worked for a multi-line dealer for 30 years (Honda, Yamaha, Harley) had his AND his wife's Wings quit running due to the fuel pumps going bad. Luckly there weren't far from home but needed a trailer ride home. Obviously he did the repairs himself.

I have a 2019 and the bolt between the engine and the transmission broke for no reason. I contacted the company and they did nothing for me and did not allocate anything. I lost a large amount of money because of this thing. 0:22

Well - when mine goes in for this bolt replacement - I'll be asking them to replace the air filter at the same time ! So Mother Honda will be paying the labour for that !

Will not affect labor on air filter replacement. You get after the bolt from the bottom and left side of bike. Air filter replacement is both sides (fairings) and top of bike (shelter).

What happens when you didn't buy a new Honda Goldwing and purchased a used Goldwing from another person and not a dealer. Can't I take my Honda Goldwing that is in question to a dealer for a recall repair?

Honda still has your VIN and every state makes your address information available in case of a recall. As long as you have transferred the title in your state, you will get notified.

I dont believe the engine has to be removed..a member on the GL1800 riders forum had his bolt replaced for piece of mind... the fuel tank was removed...the IGS was removed...the engine cover was removed....looking at the pictures the bolt looks easy to get at

I'm not sure what all the worry is over. They remove the ISG and the clutch cover, unscrew a bolt, and put a new one in its place. It's not like they are tearing the whole engine apart, they are just removing one cover. My bigger concern is that they should also be replacing the ISG bolt while they have the ISG removed.

Respect for what makes you comfortable, no judgment... But I've never viewed occasional recalls as a big deal. They find an issue, it gets fixed at no cost to the owner. So just curious how that felt concerning enough to you to actually sell your bike over it? Especially since it's fairly rare. Did you know that yours was affected? Just curious how it played out and your thought process. Did you go with another bike? Thanks.

I have a 2020 GW bagger, bought as second owner in 2023, the bike had a recall for engine stall and ECU update, fuel pump recall last september. despite of fuel pump never been an issue, engine stall happen quite few times. for sure I will udergoing this new recall... what i have expirenced 3 or 4 times since now is the infotainment display reboot. While riding display went blank and reboot as for switching on, with the warning msg displayed to click OK, no engine problem such as power lost, misfire, MIL switching on. first time happen i thought it was for the Android Auto wireless connection, so I switch to cable connection but it happen again and it happens also without any phone connected to the bike it seems there is a power black out for one second, and reboot.

A locked rear wheel at speed can be deadly. At least one owner claims that his rear wheel locked and pulling the clutch does not help.

I am not even worry about it. 22K on a 2020 DCT. Sweet dream bike, so far. I am simply going to ride and ride hard, at times and moving on. By the time I will get a letter and by the time my dealer will think to start to replace these bolts, it will take many....many months to even reach the dealer to do mine. Enjoy the sweet miles.

Humm, I got my 2018 Wing fuel pump replace a couple months ago under the recall. I'm in W Pa. I'm diappointed in Honda these days, both my Ridgeline (3 recalls, one for a fuel pump too) and now the Wing. Honda is following Harley in reliability lately......maybe time to go back to Yamaha as my daily rider.

Well, since I just turned 123K miles on my 2019 DCT, I'm guessing either my bike is not in danger, or else it will fail tomorrow afternoon... I will, however, call my dealer tomorrow.

Cruiseman, get your facts straight! The engine does not have to be removed or any major disassembly. The fuel tank needs to be removed and the ISG, then a rear engine cover removed to gain access to the bolt. Other than being a bit time consuming it is a relatively simple repair. If the dealer has the bolt on hand it is easily a one day repair. Maybe four hours.

My 2018 MT bike had this bolt failure in April 2024. My dealer, Beaverton Motorcycles in Oregon finally got the bike repaired in July 2024. It was repaired under my extended warranty BUT, the dealer rep at first reported that Honda was NOT going to cover this repair given 115k miles on my odometer. However, I complained that this should not affect the warranty as there were no mileage limitations stated in the warranty. My dealer was finally able to gain approval for the repair. My dealer claimed that my UBS bolt was "checked" and is "in fine condition" and is now properly torqued and is fine. The bike runs great now!

My 2018 manual broke the bolt back in June honmhonda dealers that I spoke about want to charge me $5000 dollar labor to open the engine on my bike and let me know how many parts I have to replace at my own pucked$$ now finally honda will be responsible for this damage . I drop the bike at dealer October 31 and do far they didn't open the engine still waiting for answer if they gonna fix my bike unther this recall.

I put 97000 miles on mine, before I sold it, if I still had the bike I would trade it for a new one

But I think my would have failed before the 97000 miles I put that mileage on mine with in two years, if it was going to fail it would have did so , and who ever has the bike now I would not do anything.

Hey Cruiseman! Just love all your videos. I watched the video from Max at Traxxion regarding this recall. He is reporting that the issue with this bolt is ONLY happening on the Manual Trans motorcycles. He did go on to say that it can and could impact the DCTs, its just that all he has heard about at this time is the manual trans bikes. Hope this helps.
