I bought my bike in June... by July I bought 2 sets to have on hand. Dunlop missions for the street miles and another set of knobbies for dirt play. I can swap out in a couple hours to change the mood lol. Kinda wish I had an extra set of rims and just have them mounted and ready... pull an axle and put the new one right on.

I’ve got a set of Dunlop Trailmax Missions sitting in the garage waiting to go on once springs arrives. I think it’s more of my own curiosity as to how they do. I grew up riding dirt bikes in Maine and southern Arizona, and have had one street bike. I loved each for their respective abilities, and so I’m really hoping the TM will replicate that to a degree. I’m sure the tires can perform well beyond my own abilities at this point. I have fun and love logging or fire roads through the Maine woods but no wheelies, jumps or scraping pegs around corners. Slow and steady for me. I’m also thinking about taking it out to Colorado to visit my son via secondary roads. Thanks for this Dale, great points.

It's already starting this year. I went in yesterday and had a list of tires (rear) in order of my own personal preference and my top choice was already pushed back to June, my second choice wasn't a brand my local dealer carried and I had to settle for my third choice. I could have purchased online and done it myself, but the online price wasn't that much cheaper than local and my local dealer will mount and balance tires they sell, for free.

I was able to get Michelin Anakee Adventure tires last July with no problem. They're roughly an 80/20 tire that is good for me because I need to ride about an hour before getting to any dirt and I stay away from single tracks as well as muck and mud. I enjoy the New England State and National Forest roads primarily in the Berkshire Hills (MA) and the Green Mountains (VT) and these tires have worked well on packed dirt an gravel. My stock tires were pretty well worn by 3000 miles.

I have never used those tires, but have heard good things about them. It sounds like you have a beautiful area to be out riding. I love it. I am glad you was able to get your tires and continue riding and having fun. These tires that I have one are probably very similar, I would say they are more 80-20 rode based , but they are working nicely for getting a ton of miles out of them. I saw that the 22 Traveler that I just got has new Michelins on it (not sure what type) For me the KLR was more of an impulse buy. I was initially just planning on getting a little extra "knock around" bike for short local country road/dirt road exploration and riding. A good mountain bike is the way to go, then. I’m pretty sure gas stations wouldn’t stay open during an apocalypse. Still, for motorized, the KLR is as close as it gets. If there was a better bike, Special Operations command would use it, rather than the KLR they DO use.

I bought my KLR adventure last July and I'm still running the stock tires. I do 99% on road, highway traveling (60-70mph zones), with a 100 miles round trip commute. I started shopping for tires late last year and still haven't made a decision lol. But I need to, because I'm closing in on 3,000 miles, the factory tires are getting sketchy. I didn't catch the tires you're previously running, could you give me the name, all I heard was Dunlop(if I'm not mistaken). Thanks I'd greatly appreciate it. Stay safe brother.

I agree, they are pretty dang good for coming standard with the bike. I used mine up the best I could prior to replacing them as well. for 90% of the folks who purchase this bike, they are good enough to get your feet wet in the adventure bike scene and as skill sets build up or riding style reveals itself, it helps you determine which ones you want next. Getting ready to order my first set of tires. Have about 1200 miles on the KLR now. I live in central Illinois and there are not a lot of trails around here to ride, so most of my riding will be on pavement. I do want to make a couple of trips to get off road. I think I have narrowed down my choices to the Motaz Adventure or GPS or the Dunlop Trail Max Mission. Do you have any advice or have you put the adventure on yet? Thank you for making your videos. I do find them very helpful.
@Heartlanddualsport
@Heartlanddualsport Жыл бұрын
IF this helps you with your question at all, and I hope it does. When I was looking for new tires after wearing the stock down some, my goal was to get the Moto GPS, however I couldn't find any at that time, so next choice was the Adventure, Again, no luck on finding them. That left me with the Dunlop, they are advertised as a 50-50 tire. I do not agree with the 50-50, to me, I believe a good solid number for them would be 80-20, 80 percent rode and 20 percent gravel, I would not want to get out on a red clay mud with these tires. After I got back from my trip to the east coast, I tried fin find more tires, I was able to find a set of adventure tires for my next set, they are sitting happily in my shop until I change them out later in the year. I will go onto say this, although, I do not like the Dunlop, they have held up nicely for me, if you are changing them out yourself, have a helper, the side walls on the dunlop are so stiff, it is almost possible to change them out yourself and the odds of a pinched tube is greatly increased. The hard side walls, will make it possible for you to ride a ways, to a better spot to change a flat if stye go down. I watched a guy ride almost 20 miles on a flat to get to a better spot so we could change out his tube.. Im not suggesting anyone do that, I am just saying they are such stiff sidewall, he was riding them on a flat. My experience with Motoz, I love them and I think either set would be a perfect fit for you and your riding style, both with get much better traction on and off road and will last much longer than the stock. You get what you pay for, and I know they are a little more expensive up front, but in my mind, the longer lasting tires makes them cheaper in the long run. Thank you so much for the kind words, thank you for taking the time to watch and comment, as it truly helps the little channel out. Thank you and I Hope you have a blessed week my friend. Dale

They did great, better than the ones I have now, they are more of a 50-50 tire, you have an option with the gps to change the rear tire direction for more of a true 50-50 or 75-25 based on the direction you spoon it on. I like them they were still on a long back order so I ordered these, I didn't say it in the video and probably should. have, but they were still like 2 months back order when I ordered them, I got the one I have quick enough just barley for the trip and rode on. What could cause excessive tire wear? I only got about 4k on Shinko 705. Is that normal?
@Heartlanddualsport
@Heartlanddualsport Жыл бұрын
I believe you are about on par with the milage on those tires. Just like the sock tires, they are made with a softer compound, which in turn gives you better all around traction, IE wet, dry etc. The softer the compound, the more "sticky" the tires. If you ever watch the Moto GP racers, they will keep their tires in tire warmers, prior to the race to get the tires hot, "Sticky" so they can make the track as fast as they physically can. Same type of principal, when your Shinko's are cold they won't be as sticky, as you ride they warm up and grip the road better. This also explains why the dual or triple compound tires are more expensive. If you look at the Motoz Tractionators or the GPS, they are dual and more compounds, the center, is a harder compound for the long wear and the outer edges are softer for the traction. I hope this helps explain the tires better and why I think you're right on par with your milage. Thank you for taking the time to watch as well as comment, it truly helps our little channel out. Thank you and I hope you have a blessed week. Dale

I have risen all over in various winds including thunder storms (by accident). Winds, are not going to effect this bike like some of the lighter dual sports, The weight of this bike, which a lot of folks complain about, is one of the benefits especially when riding in winds or crosswinds. It is not bad at all,. It is not as windy here in Texas as it was in Oklahoma, but I am 995 sure, I have not ridden in winds over 25-30 mph. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a blessed weekend. The ones I am running on this bike right now are pretty sweet for road, a good high milage tire. I think that the average rider is getting 8000 plus miles out of them. If you are mounting them yourself, have a buddy came help if you have one, they are a bear to mount by yourself because the sidewall is so still. need a valve stem chaser at the very least, My wife tried to help me and we got it done, I swore I would never put another set on after spooning these on hahahaha. I can honestly say, they stick to the blacktop and concrete roads nicely, as well as do a great job on gravel roads as well. I have no complaints with them other than the difficulty of getting them mounted being very difficult. I hope this helps and I hope you have a blessed weekend. Sorry for the delay, I have been trying to stay on top of the comments and this one slipped me by, sorry about that. PS, the ones I am currently running are the dunlop trailmax missions.
