This tip has saved me so many hours. Thank you. Now that we have Synced Blocks, I can put a database (with Views) inside a Toggle block, and use that as the master sync block. So far so good.
@Living_Dead_Girrl2 жыл бұрын
Didn't realize you could do this with a synced block. Just tried it, but don't think it'll work for my needs since the block will always sync with the master, preventing me from utilizing multiple views/filters of the same database simultaneously. My best workaround thus far has been creating templates with linked database(s) inside, which comes with all views & database templates included. Wish Synced blocks were compatible with database output and/or entries. Still haven't found a good use for this feature in my work flow.

I handle this View bug/feature actually almost the opposite to the method you opened here. I think they both work. 1) I've bundled all my original databases under their a master db page. I almost never touch them directly but when creating new views as described below. 2) I create all my Views in the ORIGINAL database. 3) When I need any of my View in any of the linked database, the ORIGINAL database's Views all are available to import into any linked database. + Add view -> Select data source -> Copy an existing view. They are all listed there! Btw, thanks for all your content, I'm a fan!

When you duplicate the table after creating the view, will the master table also be updated with any changes you make (i.e. adding new rows)?
@MariePoulin3 жыл бұрын
Content is updated, but views are not updated on the master. If you add new database entries, those are added across all instances. If you add a new view, that view is only added on the one instance of the linked database - it doesn't add the view to other instances.

I'm new to Notion so I'm not entirely sure of this, but it seems that Notion integrated this process into the linked database set up. Or it's not the same thing? When you link to a database, a right side bar opens so you can choose from existing views from the original database and copy any of them to the linked database, and when you copy any of those views, the filters and sorting of that view from the original database comes along too. So I guess now we don't need to go through this process of duplicating a linked database to retain the sorting and filters and general set up, and can just create a linked database and still maintain all the settings in the original by default - is that it?
@MariePoulin2 жыл бұрын
this functionality has changed since notion introduced better databases this year.

@@MariePoulin I wonder if the question was asking if the views are synchronized? The data in the linked database is synchronized as you would expect. But in my quick test I didn’t see that any views created or modified after the duplication were synchronized.
@_david_aaron3 жыл бұрын
@@MariePoulin it would appear that the duplicate is not in fact synchronized with the original. In my experience using this method, when a change is made to a view in the original instance (such as modifying the filter), that change is not reflected in the duplicated instance. The inability to save and recreate views across linked instances of the same database remains one of the most pressing issues Notion has not addressed yet. In any case, thanks for the video; this is still a useful tip.

At 3:20, at the end of the video you converted the original db into a page and then what? So now you have an Instance of a database AND right under it a the original db in a page format?
