whats now vs in progress?
@MariePoulin
@MariePoulin 3 күн бұрын
Now is "this needs to be worked on now", so that's basically today's must do tasks. In-progress is literally "i am now working on this". So my daily list is all my now tasks, and as i work on them one by one they get moved into the "in progress" pipeline and then done.

Those are relations using "Show as" > Page section. You can adjust the display style on any relation to display this way.

Hey!! I'm sorry to ask this and I hope i don't seem ignorant but i don't know how to do exactly to only make the related tasks to show. I noticed in 2:21 you have a property that it's a relation with something called tasks, is that the master task database? In 3:19 you drag the tasks to the calendar and they show on that property, but when I try to add a property like that it doesn't appear to me. In 5:09 you set a filter to only show those tasks related to the video, and for that you have a relation with something called video and then set the "contains x" I am so so sorry if you explained it before but I don't understand how to do that (I have ADHD) is it bc i missed something or bc my notion is the last version? (I noticed this year is from three years ago)

Your old template has been a blessing for me and these new ideas will definitely improve my meal prepping!! Thank you! I couldn't figure out two aspects of the freestyle prep though, I'd be v grateful if you could help me! - How can I make the "need" rollup property a part of the ingredients list? As in how can I add the "need" checkbox next to each ingredient? - How do I filter the groceries database to only show the ingredients of the recipes that are 'planned' for that week? Thanks again!
@MariePoulin

1. when you click the + where you add new relations, there's a 3 dot menu that appears where you can display additional properties. 2. you have to add a rollup on your ingredients to your recipes > planned property.

Amazing video! I love the workflow of this whole system, thanks for making it. Excited to build it myself. I think a cool next step would be for the recipes to auto-update to adjust ingredient amounts depending on servings. I feel like it could open the door for nutrition tracking etc depending on how much of each ingredient you used/consumed. Maybe the variables get too intricate for that possibility, but it would take a bit of mental load out. And, it has the ability to connect and communicate with other elements of your Notion system. Thanks for sharing such a well thought out system!
@MariePoulin

I think if you need that level of tracking, its best to use an app like Cronometer, because Notion can't do that kind of join table dynamically, so at that point you're spending a lot of time inputting/managing data.... which nobody enjoys, lol!

I have an issue regarding duplicated tables and entire new pages (containing tables) that are synced. The first one is the one I would ideally solve because it would mean I could have all my material in the same "folder". When looking at my table, say my goals for "Week ending XX" and I want to duplicate this table (and edit it as neccesary) for the following week, so i click + to create a new table (or right click, and go duplicate), either way, which ever timetable is edited, effects the other in the exact same way. I understand from reading online, that this is merely a different "view" of the original database. But i don't want this, and I struggle to wrap my head around why anyone would? If they are always going to be exactly the same- why not look at the original? Anyway, my goal here is to unsync the tabs and their tables, I want to edit them independently from each other.

Thank you for sharing this. I love tension. I will add it to our organisation. I'm surprised to see no "meeting reports" db. Is it deliberate? I could see a hardcore vision where you want collaborators to not just file notes and thoughts, but force them to push into actions, tensions or resources directly.

Our meetings happens in our actions database, so as we run the meetings, we generate actions in the moment. With only 2 (sometimes 3) of us, that is probably more than we need, but no reason why teams couldn't do it differently :D

One option is to use the sub-tasks feature. In other words, basically treating an event as a task with all the sub-tasks that represent all the work that needs to be done. Each of those sub-tasks and the main task will then have an own due date and they all can be shown on just one calendar view. To show both tasks and sub-tasks you choose the "Flattened view" in the Sub-task settings of your calendar view. E.g. in the example Marie is using, the planning meeting is a sub-task of the event, booking the location is a sub-task, forms-submission cut-off date is a sub-task etc. I think for project-like work like organising an event, this approach will actually help structure and complete the work.

Hi Marie, I've been using your method for over a year and I am very thankful. Only recently when editing a template with a button and an inline db, tasks dragged from within the button into the in line db, disappear (while they do not when creating a new project). Are you aware of this bug? Would you know where to look to solve it? Thank you in advance.

You have to be sure that your button is also assigning the project relation, otherwise, they won't meet the filter criteria and are filtered out of your view!

Hi Marie! I've been slowly making a mashup of this template (Goals + Practices) and the Plan Your Year (PYY) template that I purchased (I kept pure "template versions" so if I make a mistake, I can problem solve or get back to the original with some ease). I'm playing with incorporating "Practices" into the PYY Goals. My current roadblock is deciding if the Practice progress will just automatically update in Goals (so only one potential manual entry) and how exactly to do that. It's been a fun puzzle! (I think the answer will reveal itself with use and practice - no pun intended 😆) Thank you for the resources you share and sell. My doctor and I appreciate how much better I am now at tracking my chronic illness condition and my business & productivity are beginning to show signs of improvement since shifting my mindset and tools with your tutorials and templates. Thank you, again!
