My dad used to listen to this all the time when I was little as he related to it a lot, he was sentenced to prison for five years in 2018 and was supposed to be released in a month or two. Come october we find out he has stage 4 cancer, out of nowhere. He lost his life two days before christmas and this song is something that reminds me of him. This is my first time dealing with loss but I find some kind of comfort in things like this. I didn't have him for most of my teen years as I'm 16 now and it hurts so bad knowing I'll never have him again. He was a good man, just in a tough spot. The prison system doesn't care, you're basically just a number, they don't look at what kind of person you are or your past offenses, your just scum. My dad went in months prior for a checkup because he wasn't feeling well and they said nothing was wrong, a few months later there's tumors throughout his whole body, how does that happen? I saw him for the first time in 5 years and he didn't even look like himself. He was skinny and could barely walk or talk. They just put him on a breathing machine and that was it. They didn't even try to help him and gave him no care at all, they basically killed him. He passed 2 days later and I didn't know how to process it, I just hope he isn't hurting anymore and that makes me feel a little better.

Even if you aren't going through the same types of struggles a black man from the projects goes through, ANYONE can relate to biggies music. Wether it's death, drugs, depression or some other dark shit, everyone has their demons. So everyone has their own struggles. It's just that people have different kinds of struggles. Wether it's with money, a loved one, or anything else. Don't judge someone just because they aren't struggling the way you are. Not only are Biggie's bars amazing and profound, but this beat is phenomenal. The main sample sounds otherworldly and its such a vibe too. Good thing this track comes right after Juicy.

"If you want to understand why the Black man thinks, and acts why he acts. Listen to Biggie's Ready to Die." Will Smith
I don't think Will Smith is a good person to quote when you are trying to convey that Biggie's music is great. The man literally got cheated on and is ok with it.

@@User1828-v4 brother there is a difference between being ok with it and being the bigger person about it, just because he doesn’t make a big ordeal about it and want to put his kids through divorce proceedings.. does not by any means mean that he is okay with it.

It's been 13 years of me knowing this song. Growing up you realize that these were one of the few cases Hip-Hop heard emcees talking about their pain. Biggie was depressed for real.

Probably my favorite biggie song. You didn't get a lot of rappers talking about being depressed in this era.

I loved this track as a kid in the 90s because of the synth and percussion. But then I grew up, had bills to pay, a job, my own daughter to feed and worry if she's coming up the right way. Some days you really gotta focus on who you're living for just to remind you why it's even worth doing every day. It's a whole different message now.

I heard this album in 95 at the age of 10. Before this album I didnt care much for hip hop/rap music. I didnt catch wverything BIG was saying, but I knew I loved the beat, voice and flow that came through. This song was in my head for years but I didnt know what it was called till '99.
