This was a loss for the entire world. I live in Texas, but I have been to Notre Dame twice, the last time in October of 2017 and when I heard that it was on fire I almost cried. I did cry the next day. Those who have never been to Notre Dame or any of the world's Gothic cathedrals probably would not understand, but each one is priceless and each one has a spirit and are a gift to us from all those who built them so long ago. Certainly the cathedrals are not necessary for any of us to live, but what kind of life would we be living if we did not have them or any of the other magnificent places or things that make our lives so much richer. Notre Dame was the very first thing that I ever saw the first time I was in Europe. It took my breath away and still does. It always will. This has been like losing my best friend.

The only loss that has occurred is my words and teachings leaving the hearts of men. Do not set for yourselves idols on Earth for man-made things come and go but only I am eternal. Let the dead be dead and focus more on the living. You fools would cry over made-made goods, but a brethren who is living, breathing and feels pain, in need of food, shelter, medical care or seeking refuge in your lands you shoo away as if they were pests. This is why I said the gates to hell a large and wide whilst the gates to heaven are extremely narrow. For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter heaven. On Judgement day, let your earthly idols come to your aide.

What all mainstream media is avoiding is the fact that all the money raised is just a tax write-off for the rich while France endures it's 27th week (that's 6 months) of the yellow vest movement in which the french people are protesting austerity and economic inequality. Raising money to rebuild this structure just because it's 800+ years old is stoking the fire beneath the French people to continue with this movement. Gotta say though, that is one tough building to have survived that inferno! The saying “They don’t make them like they used to” definitely applies here! Also, it totally debunks the ‘fire causes steel structures to fail’ bollocks we were fed over 18 years ago, because the scaffolding didn’t collapse after being exposed to fire for 7 hours!!
@marylousherman54715 жыл бұрын
Good point about steel not weakening...9/11 needs the truth....planned demo and pulse technology were used.
@traceyneubert71335 жыл бұрын
There were large parts of the scaffolding that was not impinged by fire so that part would still be able to support the scaffolding that is taking the heat. The scaffolding was only supporting itself as well and not any part of the structure itself. When steel is exposed to fire, they weaken and expand as they get more heated and that weakening is what causes steel to fail. There is a very good video explaining why the towers fell because of their building construction. One of those main reasons were the steel trusses surrounding the concrete middle. To your fact of a tough building, agreed. Reason why using ordinary/heavy timber construction should be used over all the new lightweight materials used. Can withstand much more fire/heat. Thanks for providing great coverage of this tragic event. Time will tell what structural repairs need to be done to the existing structure before rebuilding can begin. My guess is that moving forward, some modern technology under the skin will be used (such as large glu-lam engineered beams) in lieu of trying to find old-growth oak beams. And the lead roofing is probably a complete non-starter, given modern health and safety issues. Which brings up a question I have not seen addressed by any news coverage - as the roofing was lead sheets over the timber frame, and it was burnt and released into the air, has there been any air quality and ground monitoring for lead contamination around the structure? All of that lead went up in the air, and was mixed in the smoke and soot during the fire; and what didn't go up, is now mixed in the water inside the structure. If the EU has safety regulations like the US, it will definitely complicate decontamination, remediation and clean-up efforts.

It's bad enough that the fire itself took place, can't imagine the loss it would have been for those priceless artifacts to have been lost as well. Thankfully, the fire didn't do as much of a toll as it might have, I hope the recovery operations go well, Paris.

Yet some ignorants want to tear down this building because “we should spend money on hospital and welfare for the poor instead” I don’t care if you are a Christian, a Muslim, a Buddhist or even an Atheist. This building is a valuable piece in humanity’s history, so it should be preserved. We have already lost a lot of valuable buildings like Library of Alexandria or Baghdad House of wisdom, and we should do our best protecting these heritages.

I'm not a religious person but I have always been amazed by the architectural and engineering feats required to build these massive buildings that have withstood the tests of time for centuries. We owe our modern architectural and structural engineering knowledge, that allows us to build skyscrapers hundreds of metres tall, to those with the ingenuity and devotion to reach to the sky.

I think this fire woke up a lot of people, when I watch the cross glowing through the Dust, I thought of Joan of Arc when she said let the cross hang High, in the history, of that beautiful cathedral, even people I know that are not religious felt very badly, and as a Catholic and all the things our church has been going through here in the US, there's good and bad in everything even religion, maybe God is sending the message, and if you don't believe in God that's okay too it takes something bad to happen sometimes to bring people together, like what happened on 9/11, the world came together for us in the US, God bless France,!!!

I’m kind of shocked that they hadn’t already removed much of the original art and replaced them with replicas just for this very reason. Older buildings are not made to withstand fires, earthquakes, or any sizable disaster. At least they were able to save as much as they did.

When I am connected with something precious, which I deeply love and touch my heart, I take care and respect it very much. Accidents / disasters do not "happen", they are caused by people's stupidity or "goddamn sloppiness." Recognizing in time is just as important as grieving after. It's easier to do something right than to explain later why you did it wrong or why you were not careful. Question: How should one deal with people who do not really make an effort in important matters?
@60clairedu5 жыл бұрын
Although I agree that carelessness can create a disaster of this kind, it is unfortunately not always necessary. When restoration work is being conducted on centuries-old (and very dry) wooden roofing, all is needed to start a fire is an electrical short. It had been the case for example when the ancient Town Hall of La Rochelle burned: a short in an electrical panel had set fire to an archive room, and the fire had then spread to the roof.

Im sad just like what happened in our church in Cebu City Philippines 🇵🇭. The Basilica Minore del Santo Niño is one of the most oldest church in The Philippines! We’re the Senyor Santo Niño holy child from Spain come to The Philippines and blessed our country! Last 2013 when a high magnitude earthquake destroyed the precious original bell tower of the church we’re the old centuries bells and old stones from the bell tower stumbled to ground and minced into pieces. My heart collapsed when saw it in the news and see the bell tower in bad shape, its like our country entire history is wipe out! But i always pray and pray that God is with us no matter what and he will not abandoned us in times like this. And I believe that God will always guide my countrymen to rebuild the damaged that has been done to the bell tower. After a year of restoration and precise engineering we rebuilt again the same structure of our historic Basilica bell tower! To Notre Dame Cathedral God is with you! France will rise again Viva France!! Love from The Philippines 🇵🇭 🇫🇷
