I agree and feel comfortable with him. As a English only speaker, I struggle with grammar. I do recall a poor quality approach in how my classmates and I were taught in grade school. I am 55 years old and have managed to improve most of my knowledge but I still need so much more improvement. I hope to have found a home here so I can help my 13 year old son as well who struggles with learning.

You use it when you want to add emphasis (or force) to a comparative. Ex: "Jim is taller than John." - maybe a couple of inches "Jim is _much_ taller than John." - many inches, maybe even a foot taller
