There are multiple sources that contribute to the level of histamine in your body (or your histamine pool), while there are 2 enzymes that help your body clear it. In this video, I talk about the things you can do short term to overcome histamine intolerance and how to get a long-term lasting solution, without depending on antihistamine medications.
Antihistamine medications are not recommended for long-term use. Watch minute 9:21 for details.

Most mainstream physicians will not tell you to get off of their synthetic drugs and to change diet and take healthy supplements. We're on our own with this and have to seek out information like that in this video. The mainstream community is honestly destructive and is all about money and stock prices. There is good advice in this video.

Fear and trauma is a huge root of allergy responses. We know that fear affects the gut and our ability to digest. We get stuck in fight or flight mode. I used to think it was gluten and dairy causing issues for me. I cut it out for years. I have a video on my old channel with over 115k views talking about that. It helped some symptoms. But I hadn't looked at all the difficulties I had been through and the fear. If we get healing from fear we can get physical healing. I believe true healing and freedom from fear comes from trusting God. Now I can eat anything. If I start to have allergic symptoms often it is because I am fearful or anxious and stressed in some area of my life. I work to control my thoughts l, pray and put my trust in God. Blessings to you all. May you find the healing you are looking for. Let me know if you want to know more. Follow my channel.

Spot on!! I've been asking my doctor for YEARS! -He hasn't a clue. But does he network with the other doctors in his group, consult the internet, or do some research? Can you say, "Hell NO!" I get symptoms around that time of the month. (I'm sure you really wanted to know that.) I've asked and asked, "Why do my "allergies" go nuts before my period? Dr. Know-Nothing: "I can't really explain it." (In other words, "I haven't got a friggin' clue!") One day, I notice "Chlorpheniramine" (an antihistamine), as one of the ingredients in my "Menstrual Relief Tablets." So, I ask my doctor, "Why do these contain chlorpheniramine?" Dr: Know Nothing, "Because as your hormones shift around "that time", a lot of women become more sensitive to histamine." * PS: Everything I know about histamine intolerance, I've learned by researching it myself. -You're so right about having to take our own responsibility.

After 4 1/2 years of strict carnivore, drinking coffee daily, and an extremely stressful event, I now have histamine intolerance for the first time in my life. Oh-and I overdid fermented foods in an attempt to improve my gut bacteria. What a mistake. If I don’t take a Benadryl at night I don’t sleep, that’s when I’m the itchiest. It’s insane. But I will try to not take it. Thank you for explaining what antihistamines do. And people-stop drinking that poisonous drug, coffee!! It ruins your gut!! (Decaf too) UPDATE: After doing GAPS intro diet for 5 weeks my leaky gut healed and my itching improved but I still was not having good BMs. I was able to stop taking Benadryl but still had to take quercetin. Then I discovered Karen Hurd’s bean protocol and it has been a miracle. It got my bowels moving in ONE DAY and after 4 weeks of consistent, multiple daily bowel movements my histamine and itching is GONE, hallelujah thank You Jesus! I now eat fermented food with every meal and NO REACTION. Did I have gas? Yes, for one day. And really bad gas too. But it subsided, and my whole digestive system felt better than it had in years. My GERD went away. My bloat went away. My transit time for digestion went up (it was so slow before) so no more gastroparesis. I will never stop eating beans again. The protocol is 1/2 a cup 3x a day. Easy. God’s foods heal-not drugs, not supplements. Try it. What do you have to lose? PS I also don’t use the drug caffeine anymore either. 🙂

Same here. Carnivore for 18months and developed a forehead rash which I suspect is histamine. I have been taking antihistamine every day for the past few years and noticed that my histamine intolerance has just been increasing. I seem to react to everything. And now I’m glad to know why my histamine intolerance has increased so much. Unfortunately regular doctors don’t ever think along these lines. 100% connection between histamine and gut issues. There are several things that raise histamine of course but I’m not surprised to hear that people feel worse with IBS flare up. antihistamines are NOT supposed to be used as longterm solution and it’s unfortunate how many people still don’t know that. If you need help with addressing your own histamine triggers, please use the link in the description to book a session.

I also have POTS and histamine avoidance is crucial for those who do. I've been using Diamine oxidase (DAO) for a few years now and it has helped to prevent POTS attacks. It's lessened by body's histamine load from other sources (gut infection, mold exposure, etc.). The brand NATURDOA makes Legumeactive (made with legumes, not pigs...gross) from Spain. They ship to the US and for the quantity and concentration of the tablets, I feel it is a reasonably priced preventative.

You now the choice of DAO supplements. Pig or sprouts. Found that my food lifestyle was very high in histamine. Liberators, leftovers, fermented foods. Rule for leftovers; one day - that’s it. Kind of sucks, but totally worth it. Careful of buying food that sits in the fridge for weeks before eating. Buy for the next 2/3 days. Healthier to do this versus getting histamine overdose from aged foods. Also , think about how much perishable food you have to throw out on a monthly basis. Though you might be at the grocery store more, you’re going to save a lot of money on food shopping for 2/3 days only.

Thank you so much for your wonderful video. I think I now understand why I’ve developed histamine intolerance. I’ve had chronic UTIs for years and have been in a myriad of antibiotics. The longest I’ve gone without them is 5 months. I was heartbroken when I developed another UTI a few weeks ago. I’ve been on the diet since October and it has helped but I’d love to eat some of the high histamine foods again. Seems like I’m not going to be able to overcome the histamine problem until the UTI infections end but there seems to be no solution to that. Very discouraged!!

Try D Mannose for the UTI - I went through same thing yrs ago for 2 yrs having kidney infections taking useless antibiotics which I would never normally take - that’s actually when I started to get diagnosed w fibromyalgia and low or no DAO…. Anyway the allopathic route was to take antibiotics prophylactically which I refused and researched that d mannose was more effective - bought a mountain load expecting to have to take daily but actually never had another kidney infection! First sense of something take d mannose and it’s gone - but it’s cheap and big pharma can’t make money off larch sugar! Good luck, never get disheartened - get curious - there’s solutions always -often not through trad medicine though

I am SO grateful for you and this video! I have developed serious intestinal issues and food intolerance for the last year far wise than my regular allergies. My family is riddled with allergies. I suspect the genetic variation that you mentioned who do not produce the DAO as needed. I was convinced I am allergic to corn and wheat. I went to an allergist, for testing who seemed to know none of what you talked about. First stop should've been the dietician I guess. Thank you so much! I've had mast fell activation disorder for the past year and a half and it can ge truly debilitating. I had to eliminate all sorts of food and for a few months I even had to order un-aged meat from the US (I'm in Canada). Took huge amounts of DAO supplements, etc., and have been on 20 mg anti-histamines all along. The thing that's helped me the most is intravenous Vitamin C. I still get IV infusions every 6 weeks (down from every 2 weeks) and will continue to do so fir as long as it takes.

I do take ketotifen at night as it stops the racing thoughts, and headaches. Half a tablet means I sleep a bit better. I now use very moderate amounts of fermented food every other day, or so. Persistent use of antihistamines suppresses the guts' production of hydrochloric acid, which is the last thing you want for gut health. Food not well broken down leads to dismotility, inflammation, and possible leaky gut syndrome. Then, when you stop taking the antihistamines, the gut ramps up the hydrochloric acid again which generally leads to overproduction and dyspepsia, i.e; heartburn.

@@sagartripti I'm sure NonyaSmith and others here could teach me several things, but I've been using a small amount of liquid diphenhydramine (less than a pediatric dose) to temporarily increase control of chest and respiratory symptoms, and for topical reduction of throat symptoms, sometimes a few times a day. Thankfully I have "good days" when I don't use any at all. I sure didn't get there overnight, for better or worse. I often balance this with some challenges of my ability to tolerate histamine liberating compounds such as (extremely low dose, e.g. {unsweetened} USA tonic water) quinine. It doesn't hit me as hard as a large (e.g. pure-ish) chocolate bar or large can of beans -- canned beans are rough with me, sprouted are much much more tolerable. (I'm searching for comments I've left today because I'm trying to reply to a notification I clicked away from in a drop-down menu, and there are so many new comments now!) Expert advice should be more available and accessible. I think patient support communities are essential, in part because the studies we eventually hear about often study US! ... so I should mention that YRMV, and good luck. I've also heard that antihistamines, certainly including benadryl (which is in my words "thorough," in that it "crosses the blood-brain barrier," as I've heard it explained), can block HMNT, which is of course the intracellular counterpart of diamine oxidase, our histamine enzymes (AFAIK, and my education on these topics is notably informal, but this may have been covered in the video we're commenting on). And of course, blocking HMNT is not ideal for resolving HIT symptoms.

Now I started to do my own research and realising that none of my doctors or specialist ever did a test on food allergy or sensitivity nor looking at my guts 😱. I recently asked my allergy/asthma doctor why I've been on 2 rounds of allergy shots and on so much medication and still struggling. I showed her pictures of swollen eyes and rashes I get. I've done all the things I'm 12:42 supposed to do to make my home as allergy free as possible but until I take a zyrtec every morning I'm a mess. She tested for histamines and they were very high. She wanted to do a patch test but she's over an hour away from me and I have to go there 3 times in a week. Since retirement this year I'm not around mold that was a biggie for me and I'm doing better. A few months ago I was having a loud beating in my left ear. I had complained that my nose on the left side always felt like there was something stuffed in there and that in the morning I'd notice there was something that looked like something very swollen. The pounding was getting worse so I went to another doctor who put me on 2 different nose sprays and the pounding went away within 2 days. Also found that with stomach problems all my life the solution was to stop using mint toothpaste. I use cinnamon toothpaste and no more stomach issues after 30 some years.

No, they don't. Most modern doctors are only taught to treat the symptom. Throw a pill at it. Heckers, throw a whole bottle of pills at it. Doesn't fix it. Seriously; go into a doctor's office. Mention a disease. Any disease/chronic condition. They probably can name at least 3 pills for it, but NOT an actual remedy!

P.S. Do you use non-stick cook ware? -I used to. And I was diagnosed with "Asthma" and put on a daily inhaler. A friend of mine loves birds, and has quite a few. But she can't have non-stick cook ware, as the off-gassing kills the canaries. Then I got to thinking: If a little tiny canary's lungs fail due to this, what is it doing to MY lungs? I've been off the non-stick cookware, and the inhaler for more than 10 years now. And no more raspy voice. Very very seldom an asthma attack. And back when I used the regular inhaler, I could only get to 325 on the spirometer. Now I do better than 750 regularly!

I believe I have had SIBO for a long time. The western medical system won't test me for SIBO but gave me drugs for it when they didn't know for sure if I had it. I fired the Gastroenterologist for continuously gate keeping the functional testing I needed. I did my own research and although meat has the potential for having lots of histamines I have had no real histamine issues since going off plants and carbs. I believe that I have begun to heal the SIBO among other things since 4 months on the Carnivore diet. I will do this elimination diet for at least 6 months to get rid of SIBO, lose excess weight, and get rid of the painful oxalates in my joints. Then I will try to add back low histamine/low oxalate foods to see if they bring symptoms back. I will stay away from grains and sugars for good. My body cannot handle those at all.

So for some things, i had to fight through the worst to get to being better. And i met lots of people on the same boat. But most people quit a supplement when they try it at first and get bad reactions…so they just continue avoiding it, not knowing that it’s a sign they started healing and could’ve continued. @@MomHarper927 Caribbean landlords dont care about these things unfortunately . Someone told me to burn a sulphur candle in the apartment ( for air-borne mold and mold that has settled onto furniture and clothing). I did so twice and it really helped. Thanks for the tip about the Tilex Bleach Mold Remover for the bathroom. That will help me get to spots i couldnt reach in the bathroom. Previously, i was just using diluted bleach on a sponge. I only have 2 windows in the entire apartment😆

Demand that the owner clean up the Mold which you should not be living in and most definitely getting a Dehumidifier to prevent that from happening ever again or move. Mold is a health hazard.

This is very good information about the causes of increased histamine levels. I am frustrated though that food allergies are not considered as a cause of increased histamine. I am severely IgE allergic to 10 foods as well as environmental allergies. I constantly struggle with regulating my histamine levels and because of my food allergies, unable to take supplements. Why are food allergies not considered a cause of histamine intolerance? Thank you for your in-depth study and information.

This was an excellent vid. Thank you! I’m curious if supplements that you mentioned can have the same rebound effect as the anti-histamine drugs that you described where after you stop them the symptoms return from too much histamine in the body.

Thank you Doctor for an informative video. I used to get repetitive sneezing, nose block, watery eyes quite often. My mom has same issues, so it's in my DNA. I did allergy test and nothing came out. Finally, I gave up gluten, diary and sugar beginning this year and I am much better of. I observed that diary is the biggest culprit in my case. If I eat diary 2-3 times a week, I get this symptoms. What would you recommend if I happen to eat diary in a week to avoid this symptoms? Should I take a DAO supplement? Could you please give the names of few DAO supplements? Please advise. Thank you
@NourZibdeh
@NourZibdeh 10 ай бұрын
DAO can help if you’re going to eat dairy high in histamine like cheddar cheese or yogurt, but it won’t help if you have a dairy allergy or sensitivity to milk for example since milk doesn’t have histamine anyways. Seeking Health makes a DAO enzyme products. It’s not a very common supplement

Hi doctor. Thank you for inviting us to ask questions. Mine is about the energy drink I use. You say to eliminate it while on the temporary histamine diet. The ingredients in mine are vitsmin B3, B6 and B12. Could these vitamins be causing excess histamine? I use about 1/4 tsp a few times per week and although it's really only a few drops it helps me have energy that I need. You are very generous with information in your videos. Thank you!
