hi all, this is a great upgrade handle for a scoop, i made my own from a section of carbon carp fishing pole that i got free at a boot sale, after cutting it where it was the exact same size as the scoop insert i then cut a 10" section of a broom handle and connected the 2 together with 1 stainless bolt and 8 stainless self tapping screws, i then filled the carbon tube with expanding foam then fitted a leinth of 500mm textured shrink wrap near the top and shrank it to fit, my god this handle is so strong no flexing at all and i often scoop the big pebbles with no problem. costs: scoop head £55 ebay, screws and bolt £2, shrink wrap £6 ebay. carbon section free, foam leftover from a job, so free. total cost £63 mega strong and works perfect.

Hay Tony, Been using on of Chuck's handles for almost 2 years now and they are the best I have used. Light and very very rigid!!!!! I had one in my Stavr for over 2 years now, this was a test handle that Chuck sent and he changed the design, but because he didn't like what he sent me first he sent me the one like you have. Still have not changed to the new one because the old one is still perfect. His scoops are very cool also and work great and are life time guarantee........... I now use his 720i Hybrid with the tough package, LOVE IT!!!! He is a great guy and wants nothing but the best for his customers, which you will see in design, quality and functionality. He was out here the other day and we got out for a short night hunt at Newport. Now he left me a new travel handle design which is not out yet and I am putting it through its paces!!! So far not a problem, very light and comes apart in the middle so it will fit in the overhead bin on an airplane. Congrats on the new handle, I think your are gonna love it!!

So far so good. I'd buy one of Chucks scoops but the whole idea, at least for me, of getting the CF handle was to get the weight down. My understanding is that the Stealth scoops, although built to last forever, are damn heavy. And as you know, the Stavr is pretty light weight. Whats yer take on this..

+Tony Eisenhower Well Tony you have a new dilemma......... The handle you have is 1 1/4" and the scoops that he makes take a 1 3/8" handle. So with that you would have to buy a scoop and a handle! not a cost effective way to go. I would just stick with what you have. By the way the 720i only weighs 2.85 lbs. I don't know what the carbon fiber handle comes in at but its not much! I am guessing that it is close to the total that you are using now.... The setup I have now feels the same as the Stavr and carbon that I was using.....just that the stealth takes a much bigger bite of sand per scoop!

If you ever want to use tape on that very cool rod, I suggest Scotch self bonding rubber tape. I have used it for 30 years or more on initally coaxial cable connectors on my antennas. Used it on almost all tools where a good grip helps. Was running low and asked a workmate if he could help. Alan gave me 10 rolls that had gone past their expiry date. (it lasts a thousand years in the Sun)

That is a nice handle but they and others charge way to much for carbon fiber. I am planning on making my own. I did make my own straight shaft out of a carbon fiber tube for my Excal. Only was 57 total in parts. Took me 15 min to have it all done correctly.
@TonyEisenhower

Yeah, pretty spendy, my Carbon fiber scoop handle was was $160 shipped. My carbon fiber lower shaft for my Excal was $78 shipped.

Loved your description "It's all about that scoop, bout that scoop, no trowel..." have you noticed any loss of the integrity of the socket by grinding down the inside?
@TonyEisenhower
@TonyEisenhower 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks, glad it it didn't get by everyone:) No integrity loss, I just smoothed out the bumps made by the welds. Very little metal removed. The handle fits perfectly with zero play..

I know what I'm going to ask is a stupid question, but u did drill a hold on that fiber pole to put a bolt through it right
@TonyEisenhower
@TonyEisenhower 8 жыл бұрын
Not a stupid question Joe. Yes, I did drill an undersized hole and drove in a stainless steel screw. I didn't drill all the way through and use a bolt and nut because I felt the screw was enough.

Very nice! How thick is the wall of the carbon? I have been looking around for something like that. The handle I use now is pvc with stainless steel core. Unbreakable really, but quite heavy. You can take it down very easily. I did this so it could go with me on holidays. GLHH!
@TonyEisenhower

Hey Stefan. Dunno the wall thickness but it's dang strong. I don't think they will let me put my scoop in an overhead compartment:)

+StefanrDetecting Stefan If you are in the market for a travel handle and the attachment point on the scoop you have is 1 3/8" then I would say wait a while till I get done testing the Stealth travel handle.... I have had it for about 2 and a half weeks now and have beat the crap out of it and no problems so far. He has the old model on the web site and I think the one he gave me is a lot better. It is half ash and half CF. It is a cool setup. I don't know what the end price will be but so far I like it!!!

Hello Tony, Thanks again for sharing this information on the carbon fiber scoops handles the one you purchase was a1-3/8 OD or a 1-1/4 OD? I'm going to purchase one for me I believe I have the same scoop as well, P.s I sent you an email....take buddy

@4:49....I don't quite get how the little 'black marker' on the tip helps in putting foot on shovel below? What am I missing?
@TonyEisenhower
@TonyEisenhower 8 жыл бұрын
OK so if you cant see the scoop under murky water or because of the sand and surf action. The little line indicates the back of the scoop. Makes it easy to orient just before you push it in with your foot.

Hi Tony, i just bought me a ss beach scoop and it also takes a 32mm tube/handle....please could you tell me the wall thickness of these carbon tube handles, If that is possible......they are to expensive to ship over here to uk....shipping from usa to uk is so very expensive...don,t know why this is because rest of world is farely deacent cost....any advice would be welcome tony....i got to get me a deacent handle...just cannot even get 32mm wooden shafts over here.....a good shaft is so hard to come by these days...lol
@TonyEisenhower
@TonyEisenhower 8 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian, The carbon fiber shaft I got from Sunspot is closed at both ends so there's no way I can measure the wall thickness. The handle I got is 32mm OD made special for the Stavr. You might want to consider fiber glass. I bought a rake handle from a hardware store that was very close to the right diameter. I reinforced the bottom with a short piece of hardwood dowel and wound up with a very strong light weight handle. Good luck bud and ATB..
@brianfindsall
@brianfindsall 8 жыл бұрын
Thankx for your reply tony. i thought it might be closed, never mind the fibre glass handle is a good idea. i,ll look into that, Keep up with the great vids tony. they are some of the best i have watched so far..All the best to you and your mate.......Ps, i did get a steel aluminium handle but really do not like the feel and anyway it is to short . just feels so unbalanced and not enough leverage....so fibre glass is my next root to go down..lets see if i can find one with near od,,,by fer now tony . thankx again
@TonyEisenhower
@TonyEisenhower 8 жыл бұрын
Good luck Brian. BTW, the FG rake handle was a tiny bit undersized so I had to shim it with some thin plastic sheet, And I epoxied the dowel into the bottom of the handle so it was very solid. I used a piece of oak dowel 10" long.

haaate stavrs..had a monstrik 9 put an ash shovel handle on it and the handle bracket's so short it snapped the handle.. right..at..the top of the bracket so i used a paddle bit to ream it out enough to twist the remaining stub out of the bracket and had bitch of a time finding a handle that would fit so i got a nupla fiberglass handle and had to shave it down got it in and found out i just didnt want the damned thing anymore SO got a stealth 920ix..big as a mace strong as hell and longer more accessible handle bracket with allen clamp..perfect easy no nonsense design.well that was MY tale of woe such as it is.. moral of the rant ...do your research before buying

Well to each his own I suppose. I did a lot of research to find a good light weight scoop and and I love my Stavr, had it for more than 4 years, light weight and fits perfectly on an 1 1/4" Stealth carbon fiber handle. The 920 I is a beast, I know a lot of guys who use em and really like em.. So I'm happy you like yours. ATB and thanks for watching..

Why is everyone going for light weight??? I metal detect for the exercise! You seen my scoop Tony and it weighs 7 1/2 lbs.. perfect for developing Bi's and Tri's! LOL By the time I ever make it out to SoCal to live they will probably have robots following you that detect and dig for you! HaHa Seriously nice handle and sunspot is only 1/2 mile from where I grew up in Warren Mi. Do they make straight shafts for the Ex Cals? That I would be interested in now. Seen the vid's on making them your self.. I have the tools shown to make it..I hope they gave you a discount for doing a spot for there sales! I got the address and ph no. of your bid. ... The shaft looked like 2 lbs and the scoop is what 3-4lbs.. Approx. 5 1/2 pounds total not bad. Happy hunting!

Because not all of us are built like Arnold Schwarzenegger!! Actually my scoop now weighs in at a whopping 3lbs 4.7oz.. I'm not exactly a wimp but I am in my 60th decade and the more I can do to conserve my back and knees should pay off with a few more moments on the beach... I hope:) I don't know if they make CF shafts but Plugger and Anderson do. I have a CF lower shaft from Anderson and really like it.
