Had mine one year now, super happy, powerful and quiet little machine.

Just purchased a Comet. I'm a beginner so I'm hoping this will be a good machine to start with... Thanks for sharing...

That is a lot smaller lathe than I was thinking from seeing them online.....I like your larger version a lot better. But, like you said, for smaller shops/projects it is still a good starter option. Thanks for showing us!

Most people don't turn bowls larger than 12" and I have not done a spindle longer than what this lathe does. I guess it all depends on what you are planing on doing. It has plenty of power to do most of what anyone would want to do.

I saw this lathe at tv show, but it had more function. Operator are change grinder,driling, adaptor very quickly at left side

I have a WEN, cheapest one I’ve seen, variable speed knob, use it exclusively for pens. I saw this one and really catch my eye. I’m thinking about getting it some time

Thanks for the video! Do you know what size bolt the base of the lathe is tapped for? It measures 5/16 but the thread count doesn't appear to be either the standard 18 or 24 tpi for 5/16th? Is it a metric bolt? Maybe 8mmx1.25? I just got this lathe and I'm trying to make a stand for it and if I'd love to avoid drilling it out and tapping it myself.

Dylan Michael Give me a day or two to find this out and I will get back with you.

Dylan Michael Thanks for being patient. I sent an email to Nova to get their answer and here is what I got back from them. " It is in fact a metric bolt that measures 8x1.25" I hope this helps.

The problem with shopsmiths is you have to put one tool on at a time.
@WorkshopAddict10 жыл бұрын
I think the upgrade for the shopsmith was more expensive or at least right about the same price as the new nova comet 2 is. I'm not a huge fan of the shopsmith, but that's because I wouldn't want to spend a lot of time switching between setups.

WorkshopAddict how can you compare a mini lath to a shopsmith?
@WorkshopAddict10 жыл бұрын
easylisner I'm actually not comparing a midi lathe to a shopsmith. I was just trying to explain why my father in law wanted a dedicated lathe verses using his shopsmith for turning. Shopsmiths are very very well made. Its a lot of machine for what you pay for and quite frankly its an amazing well engineered piece of equipment. He just wasn't able to get the results he wanted from what the shopsmith could do. Please don't take this review as a slam on Shopsmith machines. Its not meant to be.
@Lanninglongarmmowing10 жыл бұрын
WorkshopAddict Yeah I agree. I saw a shopsmith sell at an auction for $65 though. So you got to shop around. I think that's why shopsmiths aren't that popular anymore.
