The existing “classic” ones are the MBUS II. Magpul changed the name to classic because they wanted to forget the MBUS Gen 1 existed. Those of us who spent money on them wish the Gen 1’s didn’t exist too. Just like PMAG’s. (M2 is now called MOE, are you seeing a pattern yet?)

Yep I remember the real original (gen1) MBUS.
@commandZee26 күн бұрын
There was a gen 1 polymer MBUS. IIRC, they were phased out sometime after 2010 in favor of the slimmer gen 2. The gen 1s were much thicker in every dimension and didn't lie as flat as the gen 2s when stowed. Mechanically they functioned almost exactly the same, but the front sight post's adjustment base was exposed, so the sight picture was a "t" shape rather than just a post. They were available in 4 colors; black, FDE, OD green, and the also long gone Magpul foliage green. The last set I got came with my Magpul MOE model Smith and Wesson M&P15-22 around 2010. I still have and use them, they're very robust and give just barely enough clearance under my old school 3x magnifiers mounted in an older style LaRue 1/3 cowitness flip-to-side mount. Sorry for the long comment, but I know this is useful to some gun gear geeks out there. RIP Paul Harrell

4:43 the MBUS 3 front sight also inherits something else from the MBUS Pro metal sights; the combat-match style front post sight. If you rotated the barrel screw all the way out you can rotate the post 90 degrees to get a thinner/more accurate front sight. Putting it back in without it twisting back to the combat sight is a whole other story, but I didn't know this about my MBUS 3 until I looked in the manual about it. Figured anyone curious might want to know.

The MBUS 3 lower profile front sight does matter with bulkier lights like the m640 turbo. The head is so girthy and bulbous, that when trying to tuck the light in tight, the MBUS has to be moved either forward or backward to not impede the head if you’re trying to tuck it in close

Alright, a bit unrelated question to the MBUS itself, but looking at the rear sight, the sight hole is a cone from one side, flat from the other. Is there any reason for it? For the longest time I was wondering (without finding specific answers), does it matter which side (flat or the cone) is facing the eye? On some rifles with fixed sights, I often see the cone facing towards the shooter, but backup rail-mounted sights let you put them on facing either way. Hell, I even noticed that on bright days with overhead sun the glare from the cone facing towards me I can't really see what I'm aiming at... but it's often mounted that way from the factory. I'm confused as hell about it at this point

It's a little bit off topic, but I think that question will fit better on this channel than the main one. What are the best tactical/hiking boots according to you. You're making a lot of milage on shooting range and bushwhacking in the mountains. I'm very interested in what's working for you guys and what's not. What's your opinion on GTX boots and what brands you prefer. Last month, I took a risk and splurged a few bucks on a pair of salomon quest forces 2 gtx (or something like that). I could get a newest civilian version of quest 4 gtx for half of the retail price thanks to my friend who's working in very popular footwear retailer but even with that high discount i didn't pulled a trigger on them because of horrible reviews about durability. I know that hiking and tactical/military boots are consumables, but I really appreciate if my boots can survive hiking trip or 72h of fookin around in the woods with the boys. These Quest forces have better reviews and are supposedly based on previous, better version of salomon quest 3. So far, they are quite comfortable, and they support my ankle nicely, so we will see how durable they are. Like Hop said, it's very fashion minded and NY Broadway preformer type of question 😂 but I'm very curious about your experiences with boots, I've got ankles like old lady so I'm always on the hunt for good boots and i like to learn on mistakes of others 😅

I disagree with Hop here about metal backup sites. The whole point is that they're there as a backup if your main optic fails and if you have plastic sites they're just as likely if not more likely to be broken by whatever damaged your primary optic. I'm saying your primary site should have the features you want but your "backup" sites should be absolutely rock solid reliable but not necessarily as capable.
