Surfaces are negated when on his prime. In a few yrs he may hold the undisputed title GOAT. He's defo been the best player in the last decade.

@bonzwah13 жыл бұрын
if you toss the word "potential" in front of "future number one" then I think most people would agree. But unfortunately, there's no guarantee that he will figure out a way to increase the consistency in his performance to get the results needed to reach that rank. His game, from a technical and tactical perspective, is just very high risk high reward, and its tough to string together enough matches in a row to win titles when you play a high risk game, especially at a grand slam when you have to string together 7 match wins in a row and have to maintain your form over 2 weeks. But of course, I will always be a huge fan of his, because this guy is a highlight factory, and his game is so pleasing to the eye.

Great to see Shapovalov get to the wimbledon semis, but a lot of questions still hang over his game. Like so many incredibly flashy, talented players in the past, such as Henri Leconte or Hana Mandlikova in women's game, he is too reliant on mood and timing. Some other players are more securely armed, and it's hard to think that it won't be one of the limiting factors in his career.

Shapavlov really didn't like the Serbian crowd intimidating him. Now he and others have an insight to the disgusting behaviour Novak has to endure from petulant crowds (Roland Garros, Wimbledon to name a couple) on a tournament and match basis. I've witnessed Federer, Nadal, Medverdev react in the same bad boy behaviour during 'Davis Cup style' and/or team tournaments, where the support of players is more evenly split and Novak, for once, isn't the player a crowd is deliberately trying to disrespect by cheering lost points, calling out before serves or between rallies, and booing if he has the temerity to question a point, like all players do from time to time. Unfortunately for the many of Novak's opponents, (Wimbledon 2019 playing Federer as a prime example) the crowd still haven't figured out that the more you 'deliberately' try to put Novak off, the better he gets and the more determined he becomes to overcome adversity. And, the more disrespectful the crowd...and to a degree, even more than a supporting crowd, the stronger Novak's mental capacity tightens.
