My father was born in Baghdad in 1934 to Assyrian Christian parents. My father would tell me all the time that when he was a kid in Iraq no one cared about Muslim, Jew, or Christian. Most people lived together, celebrated each other’s holiday together and were genuinely friends. Everything changed as he got older, not just for Jews, but even for Christians..however Jews fled to Israel, all the other minorities had no where to go.

Religious identity defining the individual is the problem. Like Monbiot said, we are citizens, not consumers. We are humans, not possessions of the tribe.

Speak for yourself! You define yourself based on what you choose… everyone else define themselves as they see fit! The reason you see Religion/Tribes/Cultures/etc…as a problem is because colonialism made it so! Its pure arrogance, supremacy and entitlement to believe everyone should abandon their identities to please the colonial empire!

West imperialism and racism are the main issue, we lived together for hundreds for years until the western came and set fire to the whole thing.

I heard him being interviewed with a Palestinian Muslim woman whose name I’ve forgotten. It was incredibly interesting to hear what each of them had to say.

Anyone knowing of this interview please? Listening to Avi Shlaim was mind blowing (in the sense it put things together); I can't imagine what listening to the both of them could bring!

A true patriot questions their community's values all the time they don't just blindly accept them. This great patriot does exactly that. I truly love these green islands of ours but I'm not happy with those that rule them or aspire to rule them.
