Hi Nicole, Thank-you for sharing this info on shoebox donations. Here in Australia, our collection week is typically earlier than Canada and the US. It was also decided that Perth (Western Australia) and Sydney (New South Wales) would be the main sites for Processing. This is because of costs of shipping by sea from the west and east coasts... we do not ship by air. My home state filled one large and two small shipping containers with shoeboxes. This will be transported by road to Sydney (east coast) before being packed again into a shipping container for their final destination.

Thanks Fiona! I remember seeing that detail a while back about your boxes being sent by boat. I’m wondering if some of the Canadian boxes will be as well since they reopened the Ontario processing centre here

@@Kit.Nicole Yes. That would be interesting to know, especially if you could volunteer at the PC. Even though my home state did not "Process" shoeboxes this year, a team of dedicated OCC volunteers was still required to "retrieve" shoeboxes from their drop off locations from around the state. I worked 4+ days with this team unloading cars and mini - vans and ensuring the integrity of all shoexboxes was maintained. This included providing some TLC to fragile, overstuffed and/or less than comfortably full boxes. This was to ensure that they just made it to Sydney! Also, we have had some changes to our shipping destinations this year. For example, Papua New Guinea is not on the list because of political/civil unrest making conditions too unsafe for OCC staff and distribution. Maybe Canada's list has also changed for similar reasons.

@@fedwards2023 that’s interesting! A couple of our countries were swapped out for another one this year. I’m glad you were able to do a bit of volunteering.

It is! Once you convert the amounts though most of them are pretty similar
