efka, i'm sure you worked really hard on producing this, and the attention to detail shows in the location filming and editing (especially liked the timing on the 3 PIPs bit), but unfortunately all of that wonderful work is instantly overshadowed by the introduction of my new favourite word of all time: dollaridoos.

I think that it was your comments on the pacing that really sold it to me. Then it all made sense, long periods of planning followed by very short, intense bursts of frenetic activity and then a collective sigh of relief. Oh, when is Elaine's album of board game music coming out? I need to pre-order a few copies 💚💚💚💚💚

Real-time games also stress me out, but this one seems very different. Make your plans off the clock, then have a very, very short real-time dash. Great video, as always, thank you.

I already knew the game and thought it was great, but this review just transmitted SO MUCH ENTHUSIASM that I felt the need to go out and run to a store, buy it and wake up everyone here to play it right now (in the middle of the night). Luckily you later said it was only available online so I didn't have the chance.

Can you confirn that no Elaine was harmed during making of this movie? Apart from that, so happy to see some recognition for Tim Fowers. Probably my best finding on KS. And I can't stoo being amazed that he can pack such lovely games in such small boxes 😋

Completely agree - this is an absolutely fantastic game. Someone asked me recently whose the best three designers in the world were. My answer was Knizia; Chvatil and Tim Fowers. This raised a few eyebrows but I absolutely believe that no-one designs fun thematic colourful games like the loverly Mr Fowers.

After spending real time at work, I would find real time games too chaotic and stressful. I need some head space and thinking time to chill me out. Now Boarding would leave me wanting to head straight for the exits equipped with a life jacket and parachute whilst grabbing a snack from the trolley dolly as I ran past. However, I’m sure I’ve missed something, as these games seem to be popular, such as Captain Sonar, Space Alert and Escape: The Cursed Temple have proven. Anyway on a side note, in the last couple of reviews you’ve done I’ve seen that you have Wildlands on your shelf, I’ve quite enjoyed that, but there’s been mixed feelings on this game, what are your thoughts on it and do you plan on doing a review on it?

Matt Stoker you’re absolutely right, it could be said for all games, I’ve often found that I’ve had a great experience with a game, win or lose and across the table someone will have a completely different tale to tell. However, the idea of real time gaming just seems to fill me with dread as I mumble around making ill decisions and dropping components. No one and I mean no one wants my sweat dripping on their treasured game lol

Great review. We really enjoy playing the game as well but have decided to leave out the timers to reduce stress for now. Also, we actually timed the included sand timers and they were both fast. If we ever decide to use a timer, we will probably just use the app on our phones. You didn't mention the misprint about the incorrect number of passenger cards listed for 3-players, which the Tim Fowers addressed on BGG: the afternoon is supposed to be 15 instead of 18 passenger cards. www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/1998695/wrong-preflight-instructions-3-player-count

The basic conceit of this game reminds me a whole lot of "Mini Metro". More and more passengers need to be carried along routes that are ever growing in complexity and distance and its all kept in check but just enough upgrades to keep pace with the demand.

Very much so! This board game was actually based on a video game that Tim and his friend made a decade ago (nowboarding.us). And they even partnered with the folks behind Mini Metro to offer it as a discounted add-on during the KS for Now Boarding.

Actually, that's another thing we really liked. A beeping timer every fifteen/thirty seconds would probably drive people mad. Whereas with a sandtimer it's a little less stressful - and if you accidentally miss it - that's just part of the game.

I dont know the game looks like a real time mess, maybe not necessarily a bad thing, but I do remember one real time game No Pun included liked in the past: Sidereal C. so yeah I dont think this is for me, thanks for the review and heads up non the less

Out of curiosity, have you guys tried Dungeon Degenerates? Certainly off-topic compared to this game genre, but imo GOTY! Definitely depends on your art preferences though, as this is a love it or hate it for sure.

Really... Now Boarding... game of the year 😜 And just didn't understood most of the rules, I think. We got 15/30 as a group to do everything we want or every player gets this time and than we managed 1 or 2 people to there destination and there is one new comin up at every city?! Sound like unwinable 🙈

I just didn't feel like there was much of a game with this one. One play and I discovered everything it had to offer and didn't feel the need to go back for more. It didn't really get off the runway for us.

@@stokenasty no, i understand him perfectly. Timers in games always, always add a strong level of stress level to any games they are put in. I don't like being stressed in games. The only games with a timer i like is Fuse, because the stress is limited to 10 minutes, and mountains of madness because it's limited to very short bursts of stress. And note that i don't love them. I just like them. This game, i have zero interest because of the timer.

Ugg. How do people find any fun in co-op games? With pandemic we pretty much figured out the puzzle and then just used the same strategy over and over. Any wins or losses were just based on luck alone. It's the player interaction that makes a board game fun. Otherwise it's just an activity.

I wasn’t a fan of Pandemic either, though for a different reason: the actions you can perform feel horribly constrained (You really expect both of us to go to the middle of nowhere to transfer this one city card when you’re working against a turn limit due to the player deck?), and it never felt like we were given quite enough resources to get things done. Maybe I was being a bit too stingy with using my cards due to needing a good number of each to discover cures, but still. Check out The Captain is Dead instead; from my experience, it takes many of Pandemic’s ideas, and adds in a lot more options and freedom for you, so even if everything you need to do is jacked up in response, you still feel more capable of handling it.
