I have the exact same model chambered in .500 S&W magnum. Since I reload, I decided to load up 5 rounds of FULL power ammo. A 350 grain Hornady XTP over the chrono showed 2050 fps for 3,267 ft lbs. of muzzle energy. Two rounds and that was it…I came home with a very sore hand and pulled the bullets on the remaining 3 rounds. Now I load 370 grain hard cast gas checked bullets at about 1000 fps. For 822 ft. Lbs. Now I can shoot a box of fifty rounds and enjoy it with no discomfort whatsoever.

I have that exact handgun, but it's chambered in 350 Legend. My 2 AR-15's are in this caliber which is the reason my BFR is a 350 Legend. I use my BFR for hog hunting (taken 1 hog with it) and once a month at the range. I have a Vortex Venom 3 MOA red dot and at 25 yards I can usually get about 1.25-inch groups with all 6 shots. I shoot off a sandbag and found out if I lay the frame on the bag instead of the barrel it shoots more consistent. Usually when I take it to the range 2-3 people are standing behind me taking a video. Your BFR in 45-70 jumps about twice as much as my 350 Legend. I also have cut/bruised my finger while shooting my gun.

Nice revolver. The first revolver I ever got to hold, (not shoot) was a Phelps revolver. The old ordinance engineer who had it (Elvin Tlam) was commissioned to help the the lock up and cylinder rotation design. They sent him one for his services. Like the BFR, the thing was huge. This all happened about 30 years ago, the old fellah moved away. I think Heritage Mfg. continued the line. One design feature of note, the trigger guard was significantly more relieved where the hand grips the thing, even to the point of a curved relief to protect the finger.

@@ToolsandTargetsthe reason why Hornady is day not for use in revolver is they have had issues of the powder not igniting correctly in the revolver do to powder choice and primer choice and barrel gap leverevolution are still only a 30k cup load. I see you couldn’t resist getting it as you mentioned it in past videos. I’ve got one in 500 S&W and a short cylinder in 454 casull. How about a head to head against the 500 because I’m curious which is more powerful.From what I’ve seen out of a rifle the 500 has more energy unless the 45-70 is loaded to Ruger #1 pressures. And yes that trigger guard hurts I wrap mine with tape and wear gloves. Also you don’t have a compensator on the BFR so you get the full recoil treatment.😄
@ToolsandTargets
@ToolsandTargets 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! The recoil is crazy from these things. I think .500 S&W has it from a rifle for sure. I've been looking at those Big Horn Armory lever actions in .500 but man are they expensive. Definitely gonna have to test some stuff!
@timt8029
@timt8029 Жыл бұрын
I have shot both and I truly think depending on loadings it can be any dog's day so to speak. 45-70 is loaded in such a wide range and the rarer +p loadings are crazy powerful. The full power loads like the Hornady are really powerful then you've got the loadings that are black powder equivalent.

Bought mine about 5 years ago and it's an absolute beast in the woods. Truth be told, it's a beast no matter where or why you shoot the thing. I hunted a few times with the BFG and it's hate in the palm of your hand. I've taken 4 or 5 whitetail and several hogs with it so far. I love the dang thing. That nervous laugh you had is the same sound that every friend I have that shot the thing made. Honestly one of the most fun handguns to have for a recoil junkie. Really fun one to watch.

My problem was slipping up on the grip mainly from my sweaty hand out there. I need more grip, not less.😆 It's all good when I wear a glove on that hand, so it grabs the grips and keeps it from slipping.😎👍

I wonder if they could do one in a 50-110. The ond Century and Phelps behemoth revolvers could be special ordered in that caliber. Theoretically it could then shoot .50 Alaskan, .500 Line baugh Maximum and regular and .50 special that Bowen came up with.

I have a Savage Striker in .260 Rem. Great pistol. Right hand eject but left hand bolt so do not lose grip when chambering another round ( holds 2 plus 1). I also am waiting for the new Savage 110 PCS (Pistol Chassis System) to come out. I have one in .223 backordered. New pistol has 10" bbl compared to Striker's 14"bbl.
