MPJ is a career 41% 3 point shooter. Dario Šarić shoots 37% from distance & Denver has two excellent shooters who were rookies last year & while their numbers don't show it yet, both Julian Strawther & Hunter Tyson will be 40% 3 point shooters as well when they get some consistent court time. Russ brings leadership off the bench if he can adjust his game. Malone got Boogie Cousins to do that so anything is possible.
@JB-jg8rrАй бұрын
First off, the Jazz didn’t waive him because he’s a “35 year old washed up all star”, they waived him because he doesn’t fit the direction of the team. Russ is in win-now mode and the Jazz are in a rebuild. They’d rather use that spot to develop somebody that fits their timeline. Secondly, Calvin Booth said Jokic let the upper management do their thing this offseason. I’m sure he gave his input of approval for Westbrook but bringing him to Denver was thanks to the upper management.

Let’s be clear, it’s not as simple as Russ being the backup to Murray. Coach Malone is quite smart and chances are that Russ will NEVER share the court with Gordon. That dunker spot would be too crowded PS: Russ didn’t just lose athleticism and got to where he is. He still is very capable athletically. The main factor is that basketball philosophy changed during the warrior era and now teams adapted on how to guard unidimensional players like Russ and removed the parts of his game where he was good at. Specially in systems he needed to fit at and where the team wasn’t 100% built around him.

The more reps of using he will improve but also depends on mpj if he’s working and getting better at his weakness
@Marcus-XXLАй бұрын
Actually you’re wrong. The problem with the nuggets is that they completely rely on Jokic to run the offense. In that timberwolves playoff games they were exposed bc with KAT and Gobert, Jokic was pretty much locked up and couldn’t play to his full potential. This allowed for the wolves to double team jamal Murray without using Anthony Edwards to save his energy for offense bc the role players on the nuggets couldn’t get into rythm without Jokic playmaking which is why Aaron Gordon be going off in some games bc he had to. This is also why the t wolves had trouble with the mavericks bc they had 2 perimeter threats instead of 1 like the nuggets . With the addition of Westbrook, they can rely on his playmaking to keep the role players involved and stop Jamal Murray from getting doubled. I think he should be in the starting lineup solely for that reason especially if they pick up another shooter to spread the floor. I think this is the best place for him to be especially with the playmaking minds of Jokic and Brodie. They will have tremendous chemistry. This signing is very underrated
@pjcoholanАй бұрын
If I may, a backcourt of Murray and Westbrook will be next to non existent. What my man Brodie brings to the Nuggets is being the leader for the 2nd unit, and having the keys to the car to play north south . and put the opposing defence in a scramble. Too many teams try to run the same style of play with starters and 2nd unit. What Malone and the Nuggets are going to do is destroy with Jokic and Murray with the pick and roll, and then once the defence gets comfortable, in comes Brodie going 100 mph attacking and kicking and making the defence rethink how they were defending... then when that is adjusted to... ooppps then come s substitutions and pick and rolls again.

Russ is a driver/slasher. He would fit in a role where he can distribute and take advantage of open lanes. He doesn't avoid contact and is decent enough of a free throw shooter to justify his shot attempts that mainly come at the rim. His energy exudes confidence to other players conveying a never give up mentallity that will boost their intensity. Ty lue was able to capitalize that in LA on the clippers where they fell with russ is that he wanted to be a laker and the fans and media relentlessly lambasted him for all the failures like they currently do to Diangelo Russell or Anthony Davis. Russell Westbrook also shows flexibility and a willingness to relinquish ball posessions and isn't going to undermine other players abilities and impact like a james harden ergo, The system. And he brings defensive presence which is needed now that KCP is no longer there to be rotated in and out of the line up for defensive stops. In essence Russell is a selfless player with barely any ego and that is a good fit for Denver at this moment coming off there 2023 run and the Celtics victory after acquiring a defensive presence from Milwaukee.

A guy who can run the offense with the bench, make smart cuts, and bring high energy will have a role as a 6th-9th man in the league. Not to mention he's on for cheap. Even if he isn't as talented as he once was, Westbrook still has that resilience and good locker room culture that he brings to the table. It's why the Nuggets replaced the talented DeMarcus Cousins (one who can fit Jokic's offense from the bench) with DeAndre Jordan (a guy who really can't do much but rebound and dunk). Jordan may not be skilled enough, but teams want his energy and attitude. Nuggets also won with Jordan on the roster.

"Let" Bruce Brown go? Denver could NOT come close to matching the offer from the Indiana Pacers. They were literally barred by the terms of the CBA from doing so. Now KCP was possible to keep IF the Nuggets ownership was willing to take the hit by bouncing into the '2nd wall' of the new CBA. They weren't so KCP took the significantly better offer. Did that hurt... oh my goodness yes, but KCP didn't make the All-Star team either. Now Russ REALLY stepped up his defense for the Clippers. So much so that he became their 2nd best stopper after multi All-NBA and All-NBA Defensive team Kawhi. Russ has never had a major injury and you can still see plenty of 'bounce' in his athleticism. Personally, I think after this season folks will look back at the Russ Westbrook pickup as the 'sleeper' homerun of the off-season.

@pjcoholan westbrook played pretty well last night. He is still a negative +/- for 2 of those 3 wins including last night. Also he was horrible the first 3 games. So I don't think 3 serviceable games has disproved my concern. If you were literate you would see that I was hoping to be wrong. For a team with championship goals, a positive contribution would be, did he help them have a deeper play off run. Jokic is good enough to carry this team to the playoffs. If your standard is so low, that some early wins mean westbrook is showing value, your standards for westbrook are pitifully low. Which i suppose he has earned over the past few years with how terrible he has been. So far I think this more shows how overrated Murry is and how amazing jokic is. I still hope I'm wrong. Furthermore if you look at Jokic's numbers with Westbrook... they are historic. I will also say the best ability is availability. So when the Nuggets do make the playoffs, and Murray is most likely sidelined and or playing at 70% Westbrook.. will be there to play , as he averages 69+ games. a season ,as opposed to Murray at 59 games. "I don't see any world where westbrook makes a positive impact on the team. " . Even it is just one game- his performance vs OKC is and was by any measure a "positive " impact. (season long sustainable ??? we will see) but you cannot say that he has been a detriment.

Russ is a far above-average passer as well. Its not all due to his athleticism why he is considered special. At certain points in his career he wasn't a bad shooter either plus you gotta look at the volume and shot selection ESPECIALLY shot selection which is a different thing in itself

You on point ! HOWEVER lol when you said clips sent him to Utah and they ain’t want em Russ took paycut to keep team together but PG left and clips heard Jokic wanted Russ but they wasn’t trading . Clips shift to all in on Kevin Bones man to be the lead guys setting up Kawhi . But you spot on with the Russ impact KEEP IT UP !
@boriskan6453Ай бұрын
All wrong. The clips decided to dump Russ the team cancer as his turbulent character and lack of shooting is hurting the team on and off the court. They decided to trade Russ so that they can give kris Dunn more money thru sign and trade. And guess what? The nuggets didn’t want to take his 4m contract by directly trading with the clips (with its 5m trade exception from reggie Jackson) and instead signed him thru waivers at 3.3m. Yes. They took all the hassle just to save 0.7m. That’s how much the nuggets “wanted” him.

Russ has the ability to play that Murray two game with Jokic when either one is not in the game, or he can be that baseline cutter when Aaron Gordon isn’t in the game. So I can see why they liked the idea of adding him. The shooting is still TBD though.
@yunan9610Ай бұрын
They definitely needs to sign someone still for the outside shooting. But signing Russ in itself is just the right thing to do. They really lack guards now, especially ball handler

I love how people like this base all there reasoning on playing with Jokic. He said it him self that Westbrook will be a bench player and not play much with Jokic. So why break down playing with Jokic at the end? Also people seem to overlook that The Nuggets also sign Dario Saric a decent shooter.

If Russ was making 10 million a year he would not have gotten near as much blame. At nearly 5 times that his lack of production, poor decision making, and bad shooting ruined the lakers chances.
@Arctanis-vt3hlАй бұрын
That had had very little to do with him as a whole. It was because Lebron and Westbrook were turnover prone. When teams faced the lakers, you knew you were getting 8-10 free possessions because lebron has the most turnovers of all time and westbrook was right there with him. They both don't play off ball and need the ball to be successful. That's why it was a failure, Bron gets some of the blame because he was the one that asked for Westbrook.

Have you all thought about Russ joining Giannis in Milwuakee? Imagine those two have speed and explosiveness in a same team. They already have Dame for shooting.. :)

And we finally find out that what i said million times in comments is 💯 true...and that is that Jokić didn't have anything to do with Russ coming to Denver and that it was clearly Calvin, Malone and Kroenke decision!!! As Calvin said... Jokić does not interfere in our work and doing great job to stay out of it!If that is not inaf!!! As i said million times... Jokić is not that tipe and with his understanding that is not his Job...his job is to play as best he can and that's it! I don't understand why people wanted to hear so much that he was pressing for Russ!? Is it if it fail that then he will be responsible and for critique!? It doesn't matter...it matters that he didn't have anything to do with,even Russ when asked with who he talk before coming didn't even mention Jokić,so that fairy tail is done! And one person is responsible for all this...and his name is of course Harrison Wind from DNVR! He loves those story "from how i heard" and "i heard from people close to Denver team", and so on...he have awesome talent for yellow press!!!

There’s no actual proof Jokic chose Westbrook, I think it was more like Denver gave him a few options and he selected that one. Denver is pretty cringe instead of trying to have the best team available they’re running on a skeleton crew. The cap punishments is ridiculous.. It’s kinda lame and boring to not see teams have their full potential because they all want to save money 😴
@AbcDino843Ай бұрын
Well, considering how much they paid MPJ and Murray, Nuggets don't seem to ve concerned about saving money. I agree about Jokic and Westbrook, they probably just ran it by Jokic and he said "yeah, that would be fine".

They're already into the second apron of the salary cap, so how exactly are the Nuggets being stingy with money? This isn't some fantasy world where you can keep every player you like or easily keep adding superstars, you can't pay everyone and have to make tough decisions on what players to focus on keeping.
@Anda-z7nАй бұрын
@@ranchosdelnorte they lost kcp for nothing. And the caps are bs, but they still could have kept him. Idk then Jokic needs to go to a team that can have star caliber players and stay within budget instead of waste his time.
