Great effort and very informative. We have a old 2008 Boroma van (it has good bones) that we decided to update with new lithium batteries & solar, air con and a few other bits and pieces. It has an wooden interior (darker & old fashioned) but it works really well for us. We looked at changing it out for a new van but to get something with the similar features it was going to cost us well over $100g to upgrade. It's great to see what you have accomplished keep up the great work!

I have been watching you guys from New Zealand since you started . You got me motivated to find a caravan to reno. I picked up a 1996 Regent Tourer poptop 17 footer (Aussie built) for the right price, i.e, cheap. It now has a great battery system, good solar, diesel heater, AC was removed, (ya don't need AC in NZ), re-sealed, etc. Budget was $NZ25000 all up . Very happy, thanks for the motivation!

Definitely consider a composting toilet, we changed over 10 months ago,best thing we ever did,we tossed up between the Cuddy and the Ogo,went the Cuddy as it was a few hundred dollars cheaper and the light that indicates a full wee bucket is on top,easy to see,the Ogo light is on the side,not as easy to see when full,and your kids will work it out quick enough, our 4 year old grandson has worked it out no worries, it was harder for me getting used to sitting down to wee😂

Hi guys thanks so much for your time sharing your adventures and refitting of bertha,my wife Hil and I love watching your videos, hopefully you could give us some advice from an ex caravan builder 😉 we have an older Olympic 20 ft javelin caravan that we could only afford due to hail damage it has mostly to the roof and drivers side ,quotes to repair the roof have been twice the amount we paid for it,it doesn't leak and is registered,was wondering if you think that putting checker plate over the existing roof could work as a cheaper fix and how to go about it cheers Tez
@nowornever_ausАй бұрын
Thanks so much mate! I don’t think the chequer plate would be ideal on the roof. Personally if it doesn’t leek then I’d just roll with it! That’s why so many vans get written off in hail storms as it’s so much work to replace the skins

Heh guys. Erin, you don’t have to stir it if you get an OGO Origin. They have an electric stirrer in them. We bit the bullet and replaced the chemical toilet with the OGO. My husband took out our chemical toilet and then installed the OGO. Took longer to take the chemical toilet out, finding where all the screws are located and very easy to install the OGO. Go for it, you won5 regret it.

My opinion. Building a caravan yourself, would be more costly than buying one. Unless you can get everything trade/ cost price. It would be tough on the children and their boredom, as with most kids. You didn't mention how the diesel heater performed. Or didn't you need to use it? We are still in the depths of a late winter in the SE of SA. Pat yourselves on the back for a job well done.
