Alex chuck your wheels that you’ve taken off on their side under the caravan frame somewhere. If it comes off the Jack and the stabilisers fail the wheel prevents the frame going all the way to the ground. You may still get injured but it’s heaps easier to get another Jack or emergency service hydraulic tools to lift it back up

Hi Alex & Erin. Just a bit of info…we were advised that the white tanks that come with the heater degrade a whole lot sooner than a black tanks. I think they last for quite a good while. My hubby went to BCF one day and they had a spare wheel on special ($15) and he bought it and covers the white tank with it to protect it.

Great episode as normal. With the brakes either replace the drums or have them machined. Reason being the surface is not flat as its all grooved from the last set of shoes etc and from the last magnet. This will cause the brake to take longer to wear in and not brake correctly until they are worn in. If you replace the drum brakes and reuse the old bearings ( which is fine) make sure to remove the bearing outer race from the old drum and place into the new drum as they are worn together and are matching.

I'm watching now . 2.40 Sunday arvo . I noticed your rear water tank has a flick tap on it . I have taps on mine so I can fill the tank from the fittings as opposed to ill from the normal filler points on the side wall . And the a gurgling painfully slow process. Just what I do . And remember to take of the side filler cap off to allow pressure from the tank to escape. 🎉

Just a tip, when putting on new backing plates they need to be centred. Don't tighten up just do finger tight then put on the drum and castle nut and tighten up the brakes. This will centre the backing plates. Then back off brake and remove drums. Then tighten up backing plate bolts. Then fully adjust shoes, back off from tight 13 clicks. Well done on the Reno

Spigot is a ring insert like use on mag centres, axle is with bearings, Spin hub while tension up bearings to help seat up . Best practice is to wash out old grease, not to contaminate new grease, place visual roller inspection

While originally asbestos was used in nearly every brake system, health hazards related to the substance gave cause to develop and use several other materials in the making of brake shoes. Steel, copper, iron and several alloys with durable and heat resistant qualities are often used in the production of brake shoes

Stub axle. Spigot 😅. Just a tip. Diesel doesn't like sunlight. It can go a bit gummy. So if you're going to have diesel sitting in the tank for a long time, paint the tank black. Some will disagree, but that is what I advised to do by a diesel mechanic and a guy at the RV centre. The jobs comkng along well team😊

Thanks for sharing the rebuild, we really appreciate it. Wouldn't you put the diesel heater tank up front where it's convenient when filling the truck and I would get a solid colour black PE tank for UV resistance. You have remineded us a few times of how lucky you are to have that shed for all this work. That stub axle and the hub with bearings and you would need a new inner seal to remove the large inside bearing.

I don't know if it's been mentioned or not but if you have the clear poly fuel line that is supplied with the chinese diesel heaters, bin it and install a diesel rated fuel hose (black rubber). I used the poly hose supplied with my heater and had to replace it after twelve months because it had melted and left a big patch of diesel on the ground.

He should know better - He "used to build caravans". Looking good guys! How about putting some axle stands under the van? Have you never seen what happens if the H/jack fails or worse still gets knocked and it looks like it's on a wooden block which is a no, no! Placing your rim and tyre underneath the axle will stop it from dropping too low so you can be rescued, should you be unfortunate to be the bunny to get caught. Erin, safety first always. Have a plan always. I reckon the stub axle (not spigot) and bearing should be thoroughly cleaned before applying plenteous amounts of grease, before putting the cover cap back on. My old grandfather was a stickler for greasing the trolley wheels. A spigot is a faucet or tap.

For the effort it takes. You really should do the other bearing in the hub. Particularly because the old brakes got that hot and locked up. You've destroyed grease, most likely buggered the seals integrity. Unfortunately, that shortcut could well and truly do you a mischief.
