It was very expensive for me but I am very pleased I went for it in the end. It made me appreciate the band a lot more and I had not even heard some of the later albums. I love the New England album the most.

Phil absolutely your opinion. One of the best and most loving box sets there is. So many memories. Fortunately, I was there in Pforzheim with Quo Heep and the Atlanta Rhythm Band. I remember the sun went down and Wishbone Ash came on stage with you see red.

Hi Peter, thank you for watching all the way through, it was longer than I thought! I agree it is one of the best box sets ever put together. If only Jimmy Page had thought of this for Zeppelin? Phil

Phil, this box is really amazing. I am a deeper admirer of Wishbone Ash albums, however, i don't have enough money to buy this beautiful box. I'm living in Brazil, and we're in hard times, but i congratulate you for buying this real jewerly box. Take care friend !

Looks absolutely wonderful! I have to say, seeing you flip through that book with all the music papers and concert posters; it made me a little sad and bitter that I wasn't around to experience that. Sure there's loads of great music today (although not in the mainstream) but I truly can't imagine being around in a time where bands were pumping out at least one album a year, and you could go see them in concert for $5. Nowadays you pay $300 for a crappy seat in an arena with tens of thousands of other people to see a couple of old dinosaurs halfheartedly play their instruments...
@NowSpinningMagazine3 жыл бұрын
Hi Nick, thank you for watching, it was quite a long video but I felt it was important to show everything if possible. The other thing about the time you talk about is that all the other bands were releasing one or two albums per year as well! Phil :)
@blackmarbles10472 жыл бұрын
Yes Nick they were indeed the best times ever for music , I was lucky enough to see so many great bands for just a few pounds including Wishbone Ash many times . Best live band I ever saw .

Hi Phil, enjoyed every minute of your review. I was a great fan of Wishbone Ash, I saw them at Newcastle City Hall twice, 1973 and 1975 (I think). I recall John Peel being a great exponent of their music at that time. My favourite album was Pilgrimage although I suppose Argus was the iconic album. There are some great songs on Wishbone Four as well (Sing Out The Song) although I thought the production on the original album was poor compared to the previous three. I lost touch with what they were doing after There's The Rub as other things took over in my life and now plan to listen to some of the later stuff as you described so well. Keep these great reviews coming!

Hi Paul, thank you for watching all the way through this was a long one but it is such a large box set! Wishbone Ask 4 sound great in this set. Although none of the albums has been released separately I am sure they will at some point. Seeing them in 1973 and 75 must have been awesome! Phil :)

Dear Phil, Thanks for the unboxing. I just happened to stumble across the video on Stranded in Reality the other day and was absolutely impressed and fully enjoyed it. Your unboxing approach has to be the best I have ever seen. Talking about great boxed sets, I remember when Columbia kick-started with the Bob Dylan's Biograph, I was so enthralled with the booklet so included. When boxed sets became a craze, I sometimes just craved for the books inside. Too bad they will never be made available on their own. The Ian Hunter and Wishbone Ash ones look fantastic. I have a bixed set by Phil Ochs and the writing is unreal. Thanks once again for all your knowledge, passion and ideas and I am seriously trying to get a copy of the Vintage Years. Happy New Year and look forward to watching other videos by you.

Hi Captain Fantastic! Thank you so much for watching,finding me and subscribing to the Now Spinning Channel. Your comment is very kind and inspiring for me to do more videos. The Wishbone Ash set is a benchmark for how a career defining boxset should be done. Thank you again - Phil :)

I really love stuff like this. I was cleaning and reorganizing all my CDs and BOXSETs and realized I could use more lavish big boxsets. I actually only have 15 of them, although they are uncommon. My biggest one is the tangerine Dream “in search of hades.” It is 18 Discs and so beautifully packaged. I really hope to get more like the wishbone ash and tangerine Dream sets. This is so nice. :)

Even though Wishbone Ash are not my favourite band this is my favourite box set in my collection. I had never spent so much on a box set before but when it arrived within minutes I knew it was worth every penny. Phil

@@NowSpinningMagazine oh wow. That is saying a lot. You have a ton of notable boxsets and that is really cool to know. I really hope we get more lavish boxsets of this nature and packaging. I think a great one, if I can dream, would be a 40th Ann boxset of Bruce Springsteen’s Born In The USA. It is the only album I like from him, but man it is a good one. Certainly deserves the Royal treatment. Since Sony BMG owns his catalog now I think we might get it someday. 5 CDs with a bluray audio in a large vinyl sized hard back book. Now that’s livin’

I've watched this 3-4 times - I do regret missing out on this one! I only own ("The Mighty") Argus and Number the Brave (I'm a big John Wetton fan), but I like most everything I've heard from them. Madfish does a glorious job with these sets! I did get the Caravan box, which looks very similar to this one in terms of packaging and extras. If I were made of money, I would have picked up their Gentle Giant and Steve Hillage boxes as well. Ah well - bring on Al Stewart's Admiralty Lights!
@NowSpinningMagazine2 жыл бұрын
Hi, thank you for watching. The sets are very expensive and need a fair bit of space to even store them! I missed out on the Steve Hillage, Gentle Giant sets. From what I gather the Wishbone ash set is probably the best for content and presentation. It is a set I dip into on a regular basis. Phil :)

This has become so elusive since it sold out. I only saw them once and that was at the Marquee club in 1977. It was a fantastic gig and I've wanted to find a recording of it ever since. And there it was after all these years in the Vintage Years box set...and I missed it:( That's why I got the Living Proof box set recently, just for the Marquee gig and before it sells out as well. So all's good but I'd much rather have the Vintage Years...
