Thanks Todd. I have had 7 enquiries so far today with others saying they will contact me at some point. So I am now getting quotes for the basic set up of services and security (that the village will insist on). Set up costs likely to be $500 to $1,000 per site. We harvested they rice yesterday and got about 3/4 of a ton of un milled rice, with the help of friends and family. It was the way it always used to be in most places around the world, which is far better than using contractors.

Tonight in Vientiane I had Morning glory, mussels, fried rice with crab, fried prawns, tom yum gung, and a large bottle of water. It cane to 285,000 KIP (US$18). The prawns alone in the UK would cost more than that. Laos wages are not relevant to me; I came here with Western (well, Middle Eastern) money. Only cretins would stay in the West. Enjoy freezing this winter, Europeans! 😍

As someone who has just knocked down the old family home and is building a 4 bedroom house... I'm now in for just over 10k USD, with maybe another 3 or 4k to go before construction is done - including paving the yard and painting. Construction costs in Laos are nothing. I have found that tiling and cabinets are the most expensive part of builds. Ceilings if using gyproc are up there - electrical insulations aren't the cheapest either- but the actual shell of a building in terms of putting in a floor, roof and walls doesn't amount to a lot.

Love the positive vibe that Chris wants to build but that great utopia, short term hippy heaven, has been tested and tried for close to 100 years in various nations and proven not to work (in the long term)...I'd rather take a plot of land and make it what I want, not what the collective thinks is ideal, and be solely responsible for growing my own food, cleaning my toilet, my kitchen, and not wait for my neighbor to get around to it. Pay the 500/year and rely on myself. I know, I've been living in communist China for more than 24 years. That said, what Chris has is a beautiful fertile property that can sustain off-the-grid players for a long time...sort out the visa's...and make a mad dash for Laos.

@@chrisperkins7331 The average annual income in Laos is $2400 so $300 there would be like me having a $8000-10,000 bill. There's a reason people come over here and work until they can collect social security and a pension and then move back to Laos. I've seen similar videos to yours about the Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand, all low income cheap places to live. From what I've seen in the videos I'd pick Vietnam first and then Thailand. But I do like your videos.
