I worked for Ford Corporate and a Vancouver dealer told me his strategy for selling cars: “hold and delay the customer for as long as possible.” If they want to test drive a car, then have them sit, give them a coffee, chit chat, tell them you had to move 10 cars to access the colour they liked, tell them it was dirty so you’re getting it washed, etc. He said that customers typically have about a 48 hour window to purchase a vehicle when they’re in the market and plan to visit three or four dealerships. So if you can waste their time then they won’t have enough time to shop around and you can actually mentally wear them down so that by the time they get into the business office they’re too exhausted to argue about buying a warranty, life insurance and all the other high markup items.

now please explain how Trump and Elon together can protect environment
@KnowNotNo_IАй бұрын
I’m anti-Trump Bernie fan, but I’ll give it a shot. Elon figures that the toughest market of people to sway over to EV are conservatives as they are the last holdouts for ICE & oil & gas industry. By becoming full MAGA, the conversion rate for the rest of the potential market is a done deal. Does Elon care about government subsidies when he is the market leader? Hell no! His ego to dominate everything fits this agenda as well. He’ll do it without mentioning the environment & liberals will stay with him because they know it’s good for the environment. The easiest to sway for environmental reasons are the intellectual types & the most difficult are the ones pre-programmed by ICE industry to hate the EV market. But with the new “dark MAGA” aka, the black sheep persona he loves so well, they become easy converts as they are to all MAGA people that lead industry. It’s a no-brainer, but sadly his narcissism is increasing exponentially faster than his net worth & I’m finding it almost something that will eventually be his own disruption model that will fail him personally but benefit everyone else inevitably.
@KnowNotNo_IАй бұрын
Well I had an answer but doesn’t look like it made it through the algorithm screening process. In short, the consumer side with the most resistance to EV are the ones supporting ICE and therefore Oil & Gas exclusively. IMO, this helps Elon with the most difficult consumer group typically against EV’s. The other post goes into more detail. Also, being the EV leader, he has zero worries about losing the government rebate subsidies for consumers.
@MrKristianson29 күн бұрын
In the grand scheme, I believe Trump will ultimately be seen as a footnote in the larger transition-a figure who thought he could halt the shift toward sustainable transport and energy but failed against the unstoppable momentum. In China, for instance, EVs have reached price parity with ICE vehicles, while Europe and certainly the U.S. lag behind. Looking back, it’s likely China will be remembered as the leader of the renewable energy transition, while the U.S., like many dominant powers throughout history, faces an inevitable decline as its grip loosens over time.

I wonder if the numbers of EVs in California are helping to improve Air Quality in highly populated areas there.
@Yelonek1986Ай бұрын
Yes. "A population-based study published in Science of the Total Environment analyzed data from 2013 to 2019, focusing on the relationship between ZEV registration, air pollution levels, and asthma-related emergency department (ED) visits across various zip codes in California. The researchers aimed to quantify how increases in ZEVs correlate with improvements in air quality and respiratory health outcomes. An increase of 20 ZEVs per 1,000 population was associated with a decrease of 0.41 ppb in annual average nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) levels. This reduction in air pollution is crucial, as NO₂ is a known contributor to respiratory problems The study found that for every increase of 20 ZEVs per 1,000 population, there was a corresponding 3.2% decrease in the annual age-adjusted rate of asthma-related ED visits. This suggests that higher adoption rates of electric vehicles can lead to significant health improvements by reducing asthma exacerbations linked to air pollution"

Really hope the Y Juniper is offered with a larger battery relative to the 3. I just feel like I can't be alone in wanting a Y, but not wanting to have to leave range on the table vs the M3 as a result. They should add enough battery capacity to the Y so that it has the same or more range than a comparable M3. The extra room and bump up in ground clearance is nice... but so is 363 miles of range in the 3 LR/RWD. Let us have it all! It would probably mean an additional ~5-8 kWh of battery capacity needed. Problem is... and it's a big one, it would mess up their sharing in the parts bin between those models. But perhaps there could be a version that shares the S/X 100 kWh battery. The Y XLR. Would probably be good for about 400+ miles, which would be pretty sweet.

My 2 necessary upgrades when I do change from my current Model Y - 10-20% more range (the range hit in the cold is too much and I do drive on a few trips a year), V2X / V2G. I want my EV to have power output to utilize and possibly arbitrage with. Going without power for several days last year when my vehicle holds more power than I need for 5 days is not the greatest. I do have battery backup power now, but I want to charge them too since these current ones do not allow my solar to be used at the same time.

Is FSD still having issues with road signs? In Canada, our school zones are 30km/h. It reduces max from 50 to 30 going into the school zone, but it doesn't recognize when it is out of a school zone unless a sign says 50 again. Often we don't have those 50 signs coming out of the school zone, we know as drivers that we are out of the 30 zone when we see the back side of the school zone sign on the other side of the road. Is this an issue in the USA as well?

@@michaelsmithers4900 I love my electric lawn mower and weed eater. No more bad gas at the start of the season. No more cleaning carburetors. The yard tool I like the best is my battery powered leaf blower. I take it into the laundry room and blow out my dryer vent because it is easier than vacuum cleaner and no nasty fumes. They are all so much quieter than their gas powered counterparts. It would be hard to use these in a lawn care job though because gas is immediate/batteries take time to charge.
@michaelsmithers4900Ай бұрын
@ There are some Electric lawn care guys putting content on KZbin. Batteries are expensive but so is gas, engine maintenance etc. EGO 7.5amp charges in just over two hours so it’s really just a matter of having enough batteries. Being able to charge during the working day would greatly reduce the number of batteries needed. On KZbinr uses a solar paneled trailer to charge his batteries. An easier solution may be an electric truck such as CT or F-150 lightning to charge the batteries through the day. I think the viability of battery powered commercial lawn care is still in its infancy but growing and definitely possible.
@michaelsmithers4900Ай бұрын
@ agree, those small engines are actually very polluting as they have little to no emissions controls. I saw some data on this years ago that was surprising… ill see if I can find it.
@michaelsmithers4900Ай бұрын
Small lawn mower engines are considered significantly polluting, with studies showing that operating a gas-powered lawn mower for one hour can produce as much air pollution as driving a car for a considerable distance (around 30-45 miles), largely due to their lack of advanced emission controls and high emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and nitrogen oxides, contributing to smog formation. Key points about lawn mower engine pollution: High emissions per unit of work: Compared to larger vehicle engines, small lawn mower engines emit a disproportionately high amount of pollutants per hour of operation. Impact on air quality: These emissions contribute significantly to smog formation, especially in urban areas where many people use lawnmowers simultaneously.

However 48 volts has high shock ability rather than 24 volts however 48 volts is more for home Inverters which are very powerful to run microwaves stoves fridges etc when going from 48 Volt DC to 120 volt AC. I leave it there as there is standard 48 volts systems for AC Inverters China lots has patents on that for fridges and coolers and small hot plate stoves. By going all electric eliminates many things that have ignition points and flammable gases like propane tanks... could be eliminated.
