If I remember correct, the key difference between Eastern and Western animation is what gets made first. In western, the voicing is done first, while in eastern, the animation is done first. Then again, when re-translating anything, you pretty much have to time your voice to the lip movements.

It's telling that Nox's voice alone is a powerful argument for the english dub. Because Nox's english voice is really fucking good. It's just soaked with mechanical egotism and I love it. That said whoever was incharge of the backgorund sounds and the grunts needs to be shot. They make a mediocre to good dub terrible and aren't timed to the action properly which makes the animation seem weird at the same time. I'd pay money for the English Dub-But it's scrubbed of all the unneeded sounds.

Dude, the English VA for Nox OUTDID himself. He sounds so damn cool every time he speaks, and the electronic effect to his voice just adds to it! He even put the ACT in Voice Act with the way his emotions actually sound pretty genuine. I'll admit that the original French dub's version had the most emotion in places like Nox's defeat, where he practically screamed at the Elia Cube for lying to him, but Nox's voice will always sound like this to me.

My ranking of Nox in different languages 4. Latin Spanish - Too quirky, too clownish (though I'm Mexican v_v) 3. Euro Spanish - snarky, a bit lacking in insanity. Pretty decent. 2. English - Intimidating, refined, feels like he's in complete control, but lacks a bit in the insanity area. Would be perfect if it were an American show. 1. French - IT FEELS TOO REAL, unpredictable, crazy insane but not overly exaggerated, makes you feel he is capable of any crazy thing in order to win.

I think the dub is alright, its not perfect but it works. The sub is probably better but i enjoy watching in my own language. Nox's voice is pretty good though, you can really hear how superior he thinks he is in his voice. TBH i think people are just gonna bash a dub no matter the quality.

+AxelOwnz Sadly, you don't feel the crazyness in Nox's voice here. He is a little like deadpool in the tone, but without the jokes. Here, he is just rigid. And Grougaloragran... The voice is just bad. In French is voice make him sound like really ancient, wise and yet very powerful. Like the old mage who know a lot of thing but he still can kick ass like no one. I can admit sometimes that dub is quite good. But sadly, that's not the case here.

When I first saw him in the French dub, I thought he was a little too insane for the design he was given, it didn't make me fear him.. just found him to be silly. In the English dub, he sounds so calm and creepy that it's almost kind of haunting to see what he's actually capable of doing and inspires fear. I don't say either one is better than the other.. but The performances do make you look at the character differently. One is just bombastically silly while the other is more subtle and creepy.

Shahrooz Smith I understand your point. But the main problem wit Nox voice its his lack of emotion. It's totally like a robot. But he isn't a robot. He is out of context. He seem calm, yes, and he is. But he lack so much of fear and anger that i can't see him as a character. That's... a waist, sadly. Even at the worst moment i felt like the guy who made his voice didn't give a damn about the character. With grougaloragran they tried to make him badass. That's fine, but they tried to much. He sound... like a dragon warrior. But he isn't a dragon warrior. He is a old dragon that can transform in a human form and full wisdom. In French, he sound more like.... idon't know... Gandalf. Just swap the Gandalf voice with sylvester stallone and you have the english voice xD I just think their voice in english are out of character. But if you enjoyed it, that's fine. I'm not going to sue you or anything ^^

The clock was his mobile base of operations as well as acted as his battery. It would have likely had defenses but I fully believe he could have broken through

I've seen this episode in Subs and I wanted to see how it is in Dubs. And this is a clear unbiased criticism. Personally.. I like the Subbed version, but the Dubbed version does seem to have the passion of getting it right. I like how Nox sounds here, in the original he sounded a bit more like a calm villain but shrills when pushed behind his boiling point. Here it's more calm if not creepy to hear his voice. Grougaloragran is also good, though it is hard to get used to an english voice using some of the terminology of the series. I do wish they at least fix some of the pronunciation at times, and also tone it down on the grunts, whimpers, or snickers.. Background noise is not exactly necessary nor is it supposed to be constant. After seeing Season 1 and getting used to hearing the French dub. I was expecting to outright HATE the dubbed version, but what I got instead was it sounding a bit close to the original.. are there problems? Well duh.. but hey at least they tried to give us some translation to all this. So I say... Whoever played the English dub of Nox, you get a gold star from me.

I feel the biggest issue at the time was that dubbing wasn't as popular when they dubbed Wakfu, plus the equipment they used for editing and recording the audio was probably dated or not the best as the studio was smaller compated to bigger dubbing companies.... Then the fact it was a French to English. Honestly the only thing that I think makes the dub seem cringe is the level of voice acting they could afford and the equipment being average at best. As you said the grunting and background noises are a bit much, but that is more due to the actors level of experience being well. Average and not pure gold like bigger names. The background noise they honestly should have just left out and had sound effects to fill in the gaps of silence, or if they could fill in what they can from the sub. The dub isn't the worst, but the sub is probably the best if stuff like tones and lip sync bug you. All in all its preference, but the dub just was made in a bad time. Like an issue being when there are fire breath scenes. One of them the VA literally burps to make the sound effect XD
