I kinda prefer Dungeon Meshi's take on long-lived races over Frieren's. Lots more to come still, but I like that it is the elf who is scared of losing those around them, while Frieren focuses more on a kind of outside perspective and coming to terms with what you are and how you affect others. Marcille is a really, really interesting foil to her on so many levels.

Marcille case is even more messed up compared to other elves 😅

I look forward to eventually having seen both. But that's an interesting insight. Thanks for sharing!

fun fact again: there are people who theorize that the nightmares have been with marcille since all the way back in episode 2 when she had the nightmare about her mom making her dungeon food! which would explain why hers was so much more elaborate and tailored to her bc it had time to adapt, whereas laios's nightmare was quite barebones and surface level since it was still new
@Noxiddar15 күн бұрын
Ah, I really like that theory! Doesn't Laios comment something to the effect that they must have been in there for quite some time?

Love to see dub reactions, sub elitists will sleep no longer & my “best of dubbed anime” playlist will wake em up for us

Dramatic. I like it! The rumble of the English VA will sunder the very earth and flow free with its SVO Supremacy! Or something like that... I'm new to this. Haha.

This episode is actually very important. Please take care to remember it. 🤫

I'll do my best to remember this!

4:15 This distinction isn’t really meaningful, beast-men are supposed to be an even mix of both.

Pretty sure I was just being facetious, hence the slow zoom for added cheekiness. It might not have been a slow enough zoom to drive that home it would seem. Haha. But one could posit the order of Beast-men to Man-Beast could denote which half is the dominating top half. Just playing with the idea for the sake of it. Not actually intending on dissecting the etymological tendencies of the term.

@@Noxiddar I’d much rather let a joke go over my head than embarrass somebody by assuming that their serious question is a joke. On the topic though, I think Izutsumi’s human soul has to be the dominant one on account of the fact that she can communicate clearly (whereas Falin is dominated by the dragon’s soul, and she almost never talks except to cast spells and repeat the mad mage’s orders).

You know what, actually this Noxiddar guy is absolutely right about this and you're wrong, unfortunately. At the 'Adventurer's Bible'(Seperate volume of the series by Ryoko Kui), it clearly mentions Izutsumi is made by a dark magician based on a stray cat mixed by a human soul.

@@1q2e3e4r5t I have my own copy of the adventurer’s bible and it doesn’t say this anywhere that I’ve been able to find it.

I have my own copy of the adventurer’s bible and it doesn’t say that anywhere that I can find it. EDIT: I read through the entire Izutsumi section and there is no such text stating that she was originally just a cat. The book only mentions that she has two souls, and that her human half was stolen from her parents at the age of six.

...wait, when did Asmongold talk about Frieren? And why Asmongold of all people? 😂 Also you picked up on the infinity symbol, but it's also an eye. Do you remember what animal have irises that also kinda resemble infinity? Goats

I think he specifically addresses it on his Steak and Eggs podcast, and I think he's brought it up in Rings of Power discussions. He really praised it (Frieren) a lot, so I imagine I'll get around to reacting to it myself, but I'm trying to rotate experiences at the moment that are a little different from each other, so going from DnD to Frieren (by my estimation) might be too close that I'd end up spending too much time comparing what I'd just watched in DnD to it, instead of taking the story and world in for what it is. Why Asmongold? He apparently watches quite a bit of anime off stream. So it's just one of those things, I remember him bringing up in passing. I know he's also mentioned Overlord and I believe Demon Slayer or Goblin Slayer (Or both?)

at 4:17 you're not wrong, she was originally a cat that had a human soul transfered into her.
@embrefrosste604418 күн бұрын
This is incorrect, she was abducted at six years old and turned into a beast-man by merging her body with a cat-like monster.

That's awesome! I feel like I've read a similar idea like that in another show or story, but for the life of me, I couldn't tell you where it was from. I really have enjoyed the addition of Izutsumi to the party!
