My personal experience: Don't be fooled by the promises of the X4. It is a cool concept and after seeing all the positive reviews, I was really hooked on trying it out. But after owning it for two weeks I can say, I'm very much disappointed by its very poor low light or even daylight (with overcast sky) capabilites. The recordings are very noisy even in broad daylight, resulting in washed out dark areas. The dynamic range is also very low, so once there are shadows and sun in the image, its both super bright and super dark. There is a HDR mode but I haven't really had one situation where it was in any way better than the regular or manual mode and its also not 8k capable. Belive me, I was looking forward to using it as my main camera for vacation videos. Which is why I'm quite disappointed now because of its inflexibility regarding lighting. Think about it: Why are all reviewers of this camera shooting in blue sky sunny weather? Its the only condition where this camera produces the 8k footage it promises. As soon as there are clouds and shadows, its just not particularly good anymore, requires you to film in 5.7k and even then don't even attempt shooting indoors with it (it will look like you used your PCs webcam to film). But lets not end this on a pessimistic note, there is a solution: If you want to get the cool perspectives only possible with a 360 camera, don't waste 500 bucks on a X4. Instead, get yourself a X3 or X2 for around 250 bucks. Yes it will "only" be 5.7k but in many lighting conditions thats also the maximum resolution of the X4 as well. This camera will then be your friend for all those shots only possible with it. And you can put the rest of your money aside for a good non-action camera like the DJI Pocket 3 that will be your main camera and makes you happy in those lighting conditions, where the 360 camera can't produce usable results. Or if you need to, even get a DJI Action 5 Pro as its sensor is much bigger and capable than the ones on the X4 for also only around 350 bucks.

X4 battery drains pretty fast X4 requires pretty good lighting and is no good for low lighting conditions.

As an owner of a X4 i think you made the right call to go for the Action 5 Pro. Just way more flexible regarding imperfect lighting for less money. Enjoy your vacation!

Very nicely summarized. I have both of these cameras and together with the Mini 4 Pro and Pocket 3 they form my travel equipment. Apart from the last 2, which I use by far the most, of the 2 compared, the insta360 x4 comes to mind more precisely because I don't have to think about the shot and I choose it only in post-processing. I use the Action 5 in extreme places for its perfect waterproofness (no cover needed), in places where I'm worried about the lenses, in places where there is a risk of falling, etc. The lens covers on the Insta360 x4 will always spoil the resulting image and few people use them if you look at the videos. How is the quality of the insta x4 for social media compared to action 5? Im choosing between the 2 but I saw that the action 5 seems to have more vibrant color and also really good in low light. I want to have the creative shots from x4 and also Im a solo traveler and introverted and x4 seems to be able to capture me by itself

@@edgar_annapurna Go for the Action 5. The poor low light performance makes the X4 really only capable in bright outside conditions (even overcast skies can be a problem). Then its really cool. But for social media you might want to also shoot indoors or in the evening. The Action 5 can do this better for less money. I bought an X4 two weeks ago for the same reason as you and am currently in the process of returning it.

the single lens on x4 is HORRIBLE. I've had it. the quality is extremely bad. god forbid if you compare it with something like a pocket 3 you'll be shocked how bad it is. i'd suggest go for action 5 if you want water proofing otherwise choose costco deal of pocket 3 for $400

Dear, I am very interested in the Insta360 X4 and DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro action cameras. Both offer impressive features and benefits. I am particularly impressed with the Insta360 X4's 360° recording capabilities and outstanding image stabilization, which makes it a versatile choice for my adventures. However, there is one crucial problem: the Insta360 X4 is almost impossible to attach to my bike helmet, which is extremely unfavorable for my downhill and trail requirements. For this reason, I find the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro more attractive, as it fits better on my bike helmet and also offers a robust design and practical dual OLED screens. In a few months I will also be getting my motorcycle license, and in this context the Insta360 X4 is again more suitable due to its 360° recording capabilities.
