One add here (that Nick, being the excellent driver that he is, would not demo) : the brake assist will optimally "slam on the brakes" for you if a situation arises where you are braking (hard) to stop to not rear-end a car in front of you. It's like the car says, "You're not braking hard enough, let me do that for you, I can some to a full stop sooner than you can." And it goes ahead and does that. Also, when you pull in or out of your garage, you may discover that your car is a bit paranoid, and reluctant to trust you to not scratch its paint job (it will beep at you)! If you don't know where your car is relative to walls and small paint cans, shelves, and assorted stuff, that can be a bit disconcerting. It will also beep at hedges. Presumably, it will beep at dogs and cats and children and adults and Sasquatch, too.

@davesmith5656 very true! I do plan on testing it (in a controlled way) one day!
@davesmith56566 ай бұрын
@@npoleary -- I'm guessing that it will try to stop at the same distance you have set for the proximity warning. One way to test, since you know pretty much when you can stop, might be to accelerate from some forty yards back towards an intentionally flimsy piece of plywood, maybe even with an old mattress leaned against it. Then brake (not "emergency", but hard), planning on giving yourself only one foot from the barrier. The car won't cheerfully agree with that, and you can feel the brake depress while it calibrates with traction control to produce about in inch of skid before coming to a full stop - probably at about a yard from the barrier. Do you have life insurance? (Joke.)
@npoleary6 ай бұрын
The new Active Brake assist will brake automatically (in an emergency way). The older systems were where it applies more braking force if you’re applying enough. But yeah one day I’ll hopefully try it out!

Not sure why though. And apparently there was a traffic light countdown timer at some point? That sounds cool! I thought only Audi’s had that! Not sure why they don’t have it anymore though. The thing on the app is just for very very basic Distance Assist Cruise control only, no other features (I assume anyway)

I have this package in my c43 but mostly only use it on longer drives out of town. Can I be used in stop and go traffic where you need to come to a full stop and then keep going again?

Awesome! Some cars can do that but it depends on the specification of the car. I think it was called Stop and Go or something similar.

Just recived a new eqb whit the active driving assistenter package. It Can overtake a car by it self as show in the video.?? Also How does the route based speed engage so it slows Down for turns and roundabounds??
@npoleary2 жыл бұрын
Hey Jonas, just to clarify it’s an assistance system so it can’t do anything by itself. Just don’t want anyone thinking the car will do something when it won’t 😅 Basically Active Distance Assist Distronic is constantly looking ahead when you have the system switched on. It can read speed signs or “latch” on to the car in front to keep at a set distance away. If you then move into the next lane and the road is clear, if you have set your speed higher then it will assist you with accelerating to your desired speed. In some countries, Active Lane Change Assist can assist with checking the blind spot and assisting performing that manoeuvre and then coming back into lane while using the indicators. Sadly not available on many cars in the UK but it’s pretty cool! 🤓 For Route based Speed Adaptation, it knows roundabouts and T junctions etc based off of the Sat Nav. Again an Assistance system, the driver is required to pay close attention and monitor it while in use.

Valuable and informative video. I have just purchased 2017 E Class premium plus but it doesn’t seem to have this full package. The one I really miss from my previous Jag is Blind Spot Assist. How can I check for it. Also how can I check if Active Brake Assist is working. Thanks
@npoleary3 жыл бұрын
Hey John, Thank you John! 🤓 Active Brake Assist will be working all the time, it would notify if there was something wrong. Regarding the other things, the Driving Assistance Package is a separate package for most cars in the UK. It is really cool but most of the features are offered for people who do lots of motorways driving. If you have Blind Spot Assist, you’ll see red warning triangles in your mirrors when someone is in your blind spot when travelling at speed.

I am looking for a 2020 low mileage B class and although there seems to be some availability I am finding no examples with DRIVING ASSISTANCE Package - so either it isn't typically mentioned in ads or very few cars have this option. Is there a way to search for this option or identify it e.g. does it come with certain engines or spec?
@npoleary4 жыл бұрын
Hi ProjectTruth, The Driving Assistance Package as great as it is is extremely rare in the UK. It almost never comes through as a stock car pre built with it on and someone would have to specifically order it from new to get it. If you are considering a 2020 model, it might be worth having a look at new as well, you never know with January round the corner... If you did still want to go for used, I’m sure one will turn up eventually! You could always ask your local dealership to keep an eye out for you!

@npoleary2 жыл бұрын
No it will only slow you down as it’s just an assistance system, you will need to put your foot on the brake if there is a car coming. It won’t also recognise traffic lights so you will need to brake for that. It’s main use is on a dual carriageway or motorway at speed 🤓

Hi Nick. Just switched my VW ID.4 to a 2020 Mercedes E300de - picking it up in a weeks time. Thanks for this and all your other SUPER informative videos regarding Mercedes functionality. The only thing that bugs me is that lane assist is on per default due to regulations. On my ID.4 it was possible to use OBD dongle to set the lane assist to “off” or “Remember last setting” in order to avoid having to turn it off every time I start the car… is there a similar possibility in the 2020 E300de? It would be great to have the 2021 E300de with MBUX including touch screen instead of Command, but that would cost an additional 20.000 pounds 😎 Once again: Thanks SO much for all your videos; invaluable information for a new Merc owner like myself!
@npoleary Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Glad you’re enjoying them! Sadly I wouldn’t know, I wouldn’t want to plug an OBD dongle into my own car just in case. Lane assist is only active above 40mph anyway and isn’t active when you indicate changing lanes

Nice video Nick. A quick q I am planning to buy a gle53 amg coupe 2022, went to see it but could not find the radar in the front bumper as like in bmw etc. The dealer said it is in the front windshield alongside the camera. Is that right? Cause I thought that the radars are always on front bumper. Appreciate your advice. Thanks

Videos like these make me want the GLB even more :) Nick, regarding Active Lane Keeping assist system. What will happen if I am on the motorway, going left lane, and on the left I have a new lane to leave the motorway. will the car follow the solid lane (so go left) or stay on the original course?

Hi Michal, It is just of course a driver aid so won’t drive for you but it would stay on the motorway. But if you would have indicated it switches it off temporarily.

@npoleary2 жыл бұрын
Hey costas, thank you! When you say limitations, what did you mean? It’s primary use (the Distronic function) is designed to be only used on motorways and dual carriageways so there shouldn’t really be any stationary vehicles on either road. It’s main use is to take the strain off of long journeys

Thank you very much for your great videos again Mr. O’Leary! I have a distronic plus package on a 2020 E class hybrid. Two things, several times now: when in full automatic mode and adaptive cruise control , when approaching a car on a traffic light from behind, my car fails to stop ( I guess) as I pressed brakes at the last moment ( usually it detects speed of a vehicle in front and brakes accordingly), in a traffic a behavior is ok. Second:”active brake assist inoperative, see manual” appears sometime on start. The car is clean mostly, I see it brakes a little in front if other vehicles. What do I do with this message, and if it doesn’t appear on start means everything is ok? Sorry for such a long message, but you seem to know everything on those topics)))
@npoleary2 жыл бұрын
Hey Costas, thank you! Well Driving Assistance Package is primarily for use on dual carriageways and motorways. There are a couple of instances and scenarios where you can use it round town however with more dense traffic there may be more times when you’ll have to take over the assistance system. With the second one with Active Brake Assist, if it’s happened a couple of times I’d speak with your local Mercedes dealership and hopefully they can take a look and give it a once over.

Hello Nick, again a very informative video. Question, can you also use it in a constant speed modus without the adaptive distance modus?
@npoleary Жыл бұрын
Hey Erik, not sure what modus is but basically Mercedes will either have Cruise Control and LIM (for limiter) or Distronic Active Distance Assist and LIM (for limiter) The last one is optional equipment and is only available when ordering at factory and is the one that maintains distance to the car in front. Normal cruise control does not have this Hope that helps!
