The BMW Personal Assistant would have open the blind or sunroof is there was one fitted. It'll also open desired windows and even automate functions like opening the driver's window at a car park boom gate so you can swipe your access card.

I have been driving BMWs since 2006 and I test drove a Mercedes GLC 30e just two weeks ago. At the end of the day, it's all very subjective and what one is used to. Both systems are very good, but to be honest, and based on my own personal experience, I would never sit in my car waving my hand in different directions to turn up/turn down the volume, change radio channel with a swipe etc. What I would do however is use the voice commands for navigation input or journey info, Saw the Mercedes AMG sign at the beginning and thought this report would be bias, it's not, bravo👏

Also will detect if you are Petrol or Diesel and give you fuel Prices in area. Many other tricks as well - truly amazing.*

This is a great video, Nick. Finally somebody actually tested these systems side-by-side by using the same approach and by also using more than just the basic commands. I have actually got a chance to try out both systems, but I am happy you went deeper than I did. I did not know that BMW's voice assistant trigger name could be changed. Cool. I think both MBUX and iDrive of these systems are fantastic, and everyone would be fortunate to have either. I did also test out the ergonomics of both by exploring and playing around the menus to find things without using the voice assistant. In *my* experience, MBUX is easier to navigate and more of a joy to look at than the iDrive. I am comparing two great systems here. I would be more than happy with either, but if someone pointed a gun at me and said to pick one to live with, I would go for MBUX. With all that said, I think the new S-Class's MBUX is on another level. That one is unquestionably my favourite. I am interested to hear your thoughts on that one. The S-Class has already arrived to my dealership, so hopefully soon it will arrive to you in the UK.

If want some more advanced navigation commands you can try things like "I want to stop off for petrol" (which I think works on MBUX) or "find a supermarket on route" (no idea if that works) while you're already navigating somewhere. Those are the sorts of commands that you could only really do safely with voice, whereas using voice for actions that already have buttons has never seemed worth it.

C43’s are awesome! That awesome sound of the 3.0L petrol engine. If you get one with the Performance Exhaust sometimes it’ll crackle and pop! But the best thing about it, the car can also be very understated so people don’t know how fast your car actually. It can be very subtle if you want but noisy also!

Great video, as usual. I can only speak about both voice assistants on vehicles in Brazil where I had an X5 30d M and now have a GLE400d SUV. The BMW assistant is light years ahead of the Hey Mercedes. The Mercedes assistant only understands basic commands and you have to use the exact wording originally programmed in the system while BMW is constantly learning and understands a lot more colloquial language.

In the UK for example it does adapt and connect to the internet to process commands, you can say Hey Mercedes: Navigate me home I’d like to navigate home Navigate me home please Navigate home And it’ll do all of those among other phrases too with similar keywords that it picks up from a sentence

No unfortunately it won’t open the actual sunroof same as it won’t open the windows. Most functions are on the main screen, so things like Navi, Radio, Media, Tel and stuff You can always ask, Hey Mercedes what can I ask you? And she’ll give you a whole list of stuff! 🤓

Great video. Good to hear each others systems doing their stuff. Though I do have a question. On new BMW's and Teslas, instead of having to buy seperate dash cams, all you need to do is insert a USB flash drive into one of the USB sockets on the car, activate their "dash cam" system (If the car has one!) and you end up with a fully functioning 360 deg. dash cam. However. I've not seen this on, or even mentioned on, new Mercedes vehicles. Is there such a system available?

One thing though I should add, I’ve heard of this only operating on a spec called Augmented Reality (a pretty fancy sat Nav that is almost like VR on the road) but again it does not work in the UK.

Thanks Allan for the suggestion but that is very tricky to do, it's much like smartphone assistants and will pick up phrases from a sentence no matter how you say it. There is no specific list as the car adapts and learns things all the time and even learns accents. You can pretty much give it a command for anything on the centre screen and a few other vehicle functions in the car.

I am not sure if it works on Mercedes for but BMW you can say "I feel stressed" it will turn on soothing music, the heated seats and heated steering wheel, not sure what it does in hot weather. You can also ask for a weather report for a particular town. The latest update on BMW gives Alexa integration so you can say "Alexa" not "Hi BMW" and get Alexa commands. You can also ask Alexa questions about he car e.g. fuel level.

@@npoleary According to Mercedes this can be added to all versions. Electric (EQC), Plugin (e.g. GLA) and normal diesel or petrol versions (e.g. GLB). In Switzerland the code for ordering it is the "228". My question is and I don't get a clear answer, is how it works in daily life in hot or/and in cold days? May I set the temperature and start the Aircondition remotely? How many minutes in advance?

Hey George, I won’t know fully sorry. Spec varies massively from country to country. For example with this, you can’t pre heat or cool a Mercedes in the UK unless it’s a hybrid or electric. This is just not possible on petrol or diesel in the uk. If it works the same way as the hybrids and electrics, Pre-Entry climate control will run for approx 30 mins before switching off and can be used for hot or cold. But just bear in mind these models will have an auxiliary heater. I don’t know what it will be like for petrol and diesel.

Hey Aplin, I haven't had the chance to try out of even sit in an X7 yet however, from my knowledge of the GLS 450, it is an absolutely incredible car. I would describe it an S-Class 4x4, every part of that car has been thought out with such care and luxury is at the forefront. It also features MBUX which the best infotainment system I've ever come across.

Hey Martin, unfortunately no :( The list would be so long! Much like Siri, Google & Amazon Alexa speakers commands aren’t provided in a list format due to how many they can do. Try this though next time you’re in the car: “Hey Mercedes......What can I ask you?” She’ll give you a list of stuff on each section (phone Navi media) etc on what you can say.

Hey Infinitygames, unfortunately there’s nothing called AutoPilot in Mercedes. You can opt for a thing called the Driving Assistance Package which assists the driver with adaptive cruise control. However the official specs of the C-Class hasn’t been released yet. Should hear something this month 🤞🏼

Got it thank you! Weirdly enough this used to be a hidden feature of the old app, you had to link it that way. Now that’s changed and it’s done slightly differently. Learn something new everyday! Haha Head to: assistant.google.com/services/a/uid/000000642e3973e1?hl=en_us Sign into your Google account if you’re not already and tap the blue link button and follow all of the steps. After a couple of minutes it’ll all be linked up. I’ve just tried it and can confirm that it works in the UK 🤓

Hi Nick its a great video! I ordered the new g20 320i sport wich is comes with the i drive 7 But i got the small 9 inch media screen with a 5.1 inch instrument cluster and i dont know my car will comes with a "hey bmw function" if you can answer for me this i appreciate that thanks in advance George!

Hi Dunai, not 100% sure as my knowledge of BMW’s is very minimal. I’m fairly certain though that if you have iDrive 7 you should have Hey BMW. I would double check with your local showroom to clarify!

I am learning a great deal deal from your videos. I very recently bought a A35 AMG hatchback which I am thoroughly enjoying. When using "Hey Mercedes" to choose a song on my USB (C) stick list of songs it will keep on on playing that particular song. I have about thirty songs on the USB. I have used the touch screen to select the next song and sometimes it will only allow me to select (by touchscreen)the next two or three songs and then it will go back to the first selected song. It seems the system is stuck in a loop of three or four songs. I use a SanDisk USB stick. Could the problem be me, the car or the disk? Taking the USB out of its port and then re-inserting it, fixes the problem. Any ideas would be helpful, thanks.

Mmm that sounds strange...I’ll be honest I haven’t tried playing something via a Memory Stick and then asking Hey Mercedes. I’m sure you’ve checked this but I know there are shuffle buttons and repeat buttons at the bottom but it’ll be strange if it’s doing it without those buttons highlighted... What command were you asking the Hey Mercedes?

For example I say " Hey Mercedes, change song" It asks me to name the song I wish to hear.I tell Hey Mercedes the song "swimming lessons"(an actual song on my usb) it promptly plays the song however, after it plays the song, it doesn't continue on playing the remaining songs .The system repeats the song. I will eventually work it out.

Hey AMGPower, Have you tried asking it to play a playlist or an album, does it continue the songs then? I think that’s what it’s meant to do if you just ask it to play a song to be honest. I haven’t tried it on a memory stick.

Hi nick any chance of an instruction for raising wipers for cleaning a class 250e

Sure! Start this procedure with your engine / ignition on. Then turn your engine / ignition off, open your driver’s door. And then hold the button on the end of your indicator stalk. Only do it lightly though, and then you’ll see a second or too later, the wipers will raise up vertically and stay there. Make sure you put them back against the glass before you turn the car back on!

Hi Annmarie, When you flick the Dynamic Select switch to Eco, the car will reduce engine output (so not as powerful), will change gear as quick as it can (keeping the revs down low) and also offer a thing called gliding / sail mode. This mode will effectively and safely take the car out of gear so when you’re cruising on the motorway and take your foot off of the accelerator, it will switch over to this if there isn’t a car in front. Benefits to this mean you can actually cover a fair amount of ground with the engine pretty much just idling, so almost like just coasting down a hill. All of this combined with improve your MPG and reduce your fuel bill! But of course there maybe some situations where you need the opposite like sport mode to overtake etc. Your preference at the end of the day! 🤓

@@npoleary Hi Nick it was the Consumption dial I wanted to understand a bit more. As I'm driving it changes constantly and can go up to 999 then down to 20 etc. etc. and the average mph underneath rarely tallies. What does the top reading mean exactly?

Ah that’s an easy one, if you go to the profile selector on your car (top right of the screen) then go to General Settings and enable “Synchronise Profiles Automatically”. My latest video covers that at the end 🤓

Neither system is actually called 'Hey [brand name]', they're both called voice-activated assistants. Poorly edited video, why are you not showing a counter which system 'wins' at each command? Hey TheUrbanEpicure, Sorry you didn’t like it, this was the only video of it’s kind directly comparing the two. As there are two manufacturers involved here, I personally went in with a non-biased approach which I know a lot of people prefer when watching content on KZbin. From my own viewpoint both systems are as good as each other and funnily enough even have the same voice. I wouldn’t say I put the burden on the viewer, I thought it might have been quite nice to almost literally put them side by side which you wouldn’t normally be able to do when seeing them in person in showrooms.
