I don't know who is on the guitarron. The violinist is Mireya Ramos. She definitely has pipes and range! Shae Fiol is on the vihuela. Julie Acosta on the corneta. Shae and Mireya co-founded the group. Shae introduced Julie later and here they are. They are true musicians. All three of them can write, compose and arrange music. Composing and arranging might be the same thing, I don't know, I'm not a musician. But the point is that they can write song lyrics, come up with a melody and arrange the melody in a fantastic way. Plus, they have killer voices and play their instruments like nobody's business. They and their music are a mix of Hispanic, Caribbean and American cultures. Mireya is Dominican (mother) and Mexican (her father was a mariachi) raised in PR. Shae is white (mother) and Cuban (father). I can't remember Julie's background. Anyway, these girls are killing it. And you should definitely give them your money. 😁 They have 3 albums out and are Latin Grammy winners-Best Ranchera Album in 2017 for Las Caras Lindas and Grammy nominees in 2020 for a song- Besos de Mezcal and for the album Indestructible.

The best outcome is that you love our music as much as we do and we inspire each other to be great! Our band is a true expression of how mariachi has inspired us to fuse together all kinds music with its beautiful instruments, and style at the heart. We are multicultural. My dad died in 2013, he was 96, he and his brothers (my tios) were among the original mariachis of Guadalajara (lago chapala) when mariachi music first evolved from four musician string musicians in the 1930s to a full mariachi band (horns, violins, harp, guitar, guitarita, guitaron) mariachi music in the 40s and 50s. He played with all the pioneers and greats (Pedro infante, Jose Alfredo Jimenez, Antonio Aguilar, Pedro infante, and others) after he died the San Francisco mariachi festival of 2014 was dedicated in his honor. My sister wrote a book on his life’s story LOS GUEROS DE LA SIERRA documenting his (and his brother’s) life as a mariachi going back to the beginning of pioneering mariachi music in Mexico. He died a humble quiet old man but at his funeral mariachis from all over Northern California paid him tribute at his burial. RIP Apa. Growing up we didn’t have furniture but our house looked like a music store, I still remember waking up with mi Apa coming home at 3-4am with other mariachis to wheel and deal on selling or buying instruments.

@@matthewchunk3689 thank you. he didn’t originate mariachi music but he was amongst the pioneers of it at the time when it first started evolving. I remember as a teenager back in the late 60s when mariachi music was seen as a cheap mexican restaurant music joke, and feeling a little embarrassed to let my friend’s know my dad was a mariachi because the jokes would come out, and now mariachi music is played and liked all over the world (you tube videos of mariachi flash mob events in cities all over the world). again thank you

You are totally right. I found a video of these ladies playing at some Berkley radio show. The sound is awful. Their voices are tin-y, the bass is almost not there at all and everything needed to be EQ'd much better, or at all. It would have helped if the ladies played a little better, they seemed tired and didn't have half the energy as in this video. But still, the sound is terrible to be nice. Glad to see others appreciating good sound!

I am a fussy musical Mexican and all I can say is what a joy and pleasure it is to listen to a Mariachi band with this supreme high level of quality and musicality. You girls are absolutely incredible! Your voices, your harmonies, your groove, your ranges... oh my... I could go on and on. Suffice to say that I had goosebumps all the way. And to the critics out there, you should know that Mariachi came about thanks to a fusion of sorts between spanish, irish, french, mexican, and even gringo instruments & music, so Mariachi is multicultural by nature (if you doubt me check out the work of Anthropologist Jesús Jaúregui who made a thorough research about it). ... as are our food, our textiles and pretty much everything that we are proud of. And I for one could not be happier that Mariachi Flor de Toloache, a female Mariachi band! carries on taking Mariachi music to a whole new dimension. An absolute joy!

3 years on, and still this fine female Mariachi group is proof positive that Mexican Music schools are (underfunded but) very useful and productive. Viva Música Mexicano por siempre. Me encantan.

Totally and completely enchanting!! Esta música resuena con muchos otros estilos y llega al corazón como todo el arte auténtico. Viva el mariachi!❤

This made my day! I love bands with talented and fierce female musicians and I love how they also have managed to innovate and draw from Americana and Klezmer too. Tight harmonies and compelling lyrics too. Fantastic stuff!

Just heard about them on an NPR show just now and didn't know there was a Tiny Desk Concert... Was just dancing and stomping my feet & clapping my hands to the beat, in self isolation, of course. Sooooo beautiful!!!

Been following them since I first saw this performamce on Tiny Desk. Finally in May 2019 I got a chance to experience a live performance. It was a very enjoyable experience I would recomend every one to see these talented performers live..

Wow...I don't know but it seems to me that these ladies are not only talented but formally trained/educated in music. Their execution is immaculate and beautifully done. I enjoyed this mini-concert so much! Mariachi is one of my favorite generes; a legacy my dad left my siblings and me. Gracias muchachas por el amor que se ve que le tinenen a la música de Mariachi. Y gracias por su gran esfuerzo de adiestrarse a tal grado. Bien hecho. Gracias

I am so glad to have found this group of fine musicians. Their technical and interpretative are second to none and any genre these girls try would be done with perfection. This is a live concert and all we hear is purely the talented vocals and musicianship of the four women. I am impressed with this concert and will be a fan for life.
