When singer-guitarist Susan Tedeschi sings and plays, you can hear the sound move from the Mississippi Delta up to Chicago. As this video shows, she can dispense uptempo dance grooves and coax her voice around the anguished lyric of the blues.
At the same time, guitarist Derek Trucks seems to summon forth the entirety of contemporary music when he slides his bottle neck up and down the fretboard. As you'll see, The Tedeschi Trucks Band functions in the service of a collective vision that celebrates the blues, jazz and so much more.

I have always preferred bands with 3-5 members. Tedeschi Trucks proves to be special because they exhibit a tightness with almost a dozen people that one rarely sees in a smaller group. From the horn section to the rhythm section (featuring 2 drummers) to the backup singers to the amazing talents of Derek and Susan, everyone adds an element that makes such beautiful noise. I could listen all day to this blues symphony.

I don't know if Susan Tedeschi is underrated or underappreciated but I do think she adds to the band just as much as Derek with her amazing vocals and also great guitar playing. Of course Derek is a guitar god so it's hard to compete but I really do think her amazing voice really adds to the soul of the songs and Derek contrasts it with his ripping guitar solos.

I know this is a year old now but... I just saw them about a month ago in NH. I'm a guitarist and I walked away in awe of both of them. He is absolutely on par with the guitar gods. He incorporates slide like a non-slide player and is just sonically different from other guitarists. More inventive. More explosive. Better phrasing. She has three voices. Classic rock power, gospel, and soul. Maybe more. What was amazing to me was that they let the backup singers (3) each take lead vocals on a significant portion of a song. When you are absolute powerhouses, and you hire other absolutely amazing talent to back you up and let them shine, that's being secure, having a good time and serving the music.

If Bonnie Raitt, The Dave Matthews Band, Etta James, Al Green and The Allman Brothers Band all got together and had a love-child it would sound something like this. Really spectacular. I've always been a Derek Trucks fan but with his wife and her band, it is really next level. After hearing a couple of interviews with Derek and Susan and hearing about what they describe as their love of "American Music" and their influences, this all makes sense. I am going to take it one step further. If I was in a foreign country and somebody asked me to describe America Music...modern American Music....and I wanted to point to one group, one sound, this would be it. America doesn't nee to be "great again". It is great right now. As always, thank you Bob and crew for bringing us truly incredible music in a really remarkable setting. Same. Picked up a slide and just kinda fumbled my way through learning the basics. I'm still very much learning, of course. That being said, with how much reading I did on how difficult it is to figure out how much pressure to use and ask of that, I actually didn't have much trouble finding the balance with the slide. There is still *much* to learn, though. I come back to this, the obvious and famous Trucks/Tedeschi/King/Mayer slide solo and the Crossroads 2010 Midnight in Harlem solo. Those three pieces convinced me that I need to add slide to my "arsenal".

There are no words to express how much I love this band and appreciate the music they are making. I wish my father was still around. He would have loved this.

Britt Harmon my Dad is directly responsible for my love of this band. He passed in Nov. Wish we could've had a drink and cranked this up. He would love these guys.

For me, even all these years later, the way Susan looks at Derek when he's shredding still brings a small tear to my eye :')

I remember very well when I attended their concert in Montreal about 3 years ago. At one point, band backed off a little bit, and Derek calmly proceeded to approach the front of the stage. He made one note at that moment, and I felt like it suspended time itself. You could feel the audience stopped breathing altogether. Then there was a cheering explosion like I rarely ever experienced. For one note. Best concert I've ever been to, and I've seen a lot.

I know what you mean! I’ve been to a couple of TTB gigs, and there are moments in each where I go, “There are good, even great, guitar players. But this guy is a once-in-a-generation guitar player” and just feel thankful to be in witness.

Whenever I watch them perform, Susan's love for Derek sneaks out and is reflected in her singing and on her face. BB King also loved DT and we know that BB was a good judge of amazing talent.

I saw this band in 2019 after winning tickets from a radio station. It was in Charlotte NC and it was raining slightly. I knew alot of their music but that concert made me a fan for life.

You can tell Trucks had a life jammin hard with the Allman Brothers by the way he riffs. Fantastic. Absolute gold. This man carries the torch.

Dynamics is such an underrated and underused tool in contemporary commercial music. You can use it to balance multiple instruments together, or, to express certain feelings by providing a ton of contrast to different parts of a song. Derek Trucks is constantly adjusting his volume levels, and I think it's one of a handful of things he has in his arsenal that has taken him from the level of a great guitarists to being considered one of the best of all time. The effort he puts in to perfecting things like dynamics, or tone of his guitar is what sets him apart from the rest.
