Would also love to have The Smile’s performance on vinyl. Best of Tiny Desk series-talk about a great item for fundraising season: come on NPR, make it happen NPR!! The office setting definitely helps (carpet floor and acoustic tile ceilings), and the irregular pattern of fibrous materials (books/bookshelves) contributes further to cutting down sound reflections. The microphone choice (shotgun style) allows for them to get the mic closer with a narrower audio field, isolating each part to a significant degree. Also, just really talented engineers that are used to working in the space.
