On 6 February 1988, when our NRA adopted formal military ranks, the chief guest was Maj. Gen. Juvenal Habyarimanah, President of Rwanda. As he watched, Fred Gisa Rwigyema who would later command RPF against Habyarimanah, also became a major general in the NRA. Strange but true!

@@nolanmckain2061 habyarima never supported NRM. Who didn't know at the time that rwandese had joined NRA when Obote expelled Rwandan in 1982. Habyarimana also didn't let those expelled into Rwanda. So he clearly knew much about the war and never supported the struggle

Interesting how Habyarimana's very presence there was meant to serve as a demonstration that all was well between the two countries and that NRM would never tolerate--let alone support--any talk of 'invasion'.
